I have always been a more classic style of carrier, I prefer my leather holsters to just about any other kind. Something about a nice firm and well crafted leather holster just makes me happy. Are they the best? Probably not, and if you want something like a flashlight or laser then Kydex is a much better option for sure. But as far as a classic look I think that no one can argue that a nice leather holster, and a nice gun look great together.

So in that spirit, what brands do you guys like? I got a 1791 dark brown holster for my G23 a while back, and just this last week got another for a Shield 9mm. They have great retention and frankly look fantastic. Thick leather too so it has yet to get "floppy" like some brands.

Soo what do you guys like? Am I a 29 year old boomer?

The one on the right is a Wild Bill concealment, that I frankly don't trust whatsoever and am still pissed about to this day (it was originally for a G23 but stretched so much it fit the sig, and I still had to add stitching to make it fit tight) The left two are 1791's and they kick ass

No leather for me, I want something that will last with hard use. Leather would rot in the conditions I carry.

Through the years, I have 3 or 4 Galco holsters, 1911, J Frame, Hi-Power if my memory is correct and I still like all of them.

I certain there are much better holsters but these, I'd probably buy again.

Can you be more specific about these conditions?

I’ve got a 20 year old chest holster that sees every form of terrible weather that AK mountains can throw at it.

Check out MTR Custom Leather, they list lights and lasers options:

https://www.mtrcustomleather.com/product-category/outside-the-waistband-owb/

I have some of their regular holsters and have been happy, I have not seen their work with lights. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Can't really disagree.  Milt Sparks or TT Gunleather for me.  Everyone saying leather can't take the heat or humidity needs to learn about horsehide.

steel guns get leather. Plastic guns get plastic.

I'll add the custom leather guy from 1911 forum (ColtHamerless) as he makes stuff as nice as VM but less money.

Doesn't MTR make a few of the Wilson Combat holsters? Their Lo-Profile original version is one of my faves.

Yup metal framed guns get leather, protects the finish. Plastic guns get kydex holsters. I will say the plastic guns and holsters are better for use and abuse. Also faster draw from kydex it seems like. Leather tends to drag a bit until broken in nicely. But there's just something special about a nicely made leather holster. Especially like IWB leather, it's more comfortable against skin.

R Grizzle pocket holsters for me. However, he makes every style you would ever want. Running about 14 weeks right now for a turn around.

R Grizzle Leather

Leather pocket holster for P938. I have polished the leather since this pic but I’m too lazy to snap another picture.

it never hurts to have multiple holsters for different situations. Larger pistols probably both an IWB and an OWB. Smaller pistols, maybe both two point and single point IWB or a pocket holster if you carry that way.

Personally, I don't own a carry pistol that doesn't have at least two holsters for different situations. Leather is preferred, but hybrids for IWB can be nice and Kydex for when you don't want to abuse the leather.

Get both.

All my holsters are leather. I do own one kydex, but it was a gift and I didn't like it, so it's in a box somewhere. Rocky at Pure Kustom does all my holsters, and he does a hell of a job. I've got a few of his going on several years. Other than some wear marks, they still retain well and are solid.

My favorite is an Alessi Talon Plus for my P7 EDC.
The belt clip breaks fairly regularly, but until now Alessi would replace it free.
Now, there is no answer to calls or emails. I think they've had a 2nd key employee death after Lou. Looks like it might be the end for Alessi.

IWB while working in a metal building with no air movement or A/C 10 hours a day in Corpus Christi, TX.

Kydex does fine submerged in sweat daily, leather not so much.

Kramer is local and makes damn fine stuff, so I try to support when I can. Always loved their IWB holsters.
