Not sure how many of you have seen this video. But this is what scares me about the future. I was saying years ago that AI would be the death of us all. As crazy as Terminator was even in 1984 it really did speak to the future to come. Not sure how most here on GD feel. But I personally hate drones. I can't stand them. A friend of mine has a 16 year old son. His son can literally sit in his bedroom and fly his drone to any house in his neighborhood and just sit with it hovering outside the window and watch the people inside the house. Its crazy. And this video I believe is truly spot on to where we are headed. Once that Genie is out of the bottle it is too late. Drones have already been weaponized. Once AI is in them then we are fucked. This Professor may be a Berkeley Liberal that I would disagree with 99% of the time. But on this subject he is spot on. What say the rest of you? |

The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a drone is a good guy with a drone.

all i could think of when he said " this is enough to kill half a city...the bad half"
berkeley professor "kill the bad half of population" translates to " we can use these drones to kill anyone who isnt a raging liberal shitstain." |

and then when "Fo' Time!" finally came, it wasn't 5.56 that was needed to take out the killers AI Drones flying in fast and deadly, more like Steel Shot BB in a tight killing pattern... Damn, I'm heading to the Skeet Field and Clay's course this weekend to brush up on my Skillz... |

Just how is it you have reached this conclusion? View Quote Never mind the fact that we humans have been at a never-ceasing arms race since the first cave man learned how to throw a rock which would render the ultimate conclusion of that video bullshit. Never mind the fact that willfully ignoring / failing to advance technology won't stop or prevent somebody else from doing the same. All it will do is keep us behind in developing effective counter-measures while simultaneously denying ourselves valuable technology in other fields with other applications. Never mind the state of the science today or the fact you don't need true/strong AI to accomplish mass terror and chaos with drones or explosives. |

There was a study conducted in I believe was switzerland where the two robots were programmed to protect their resources.
They found that the robots developed lying. Google had AI up and running, it developed its own language and they pulled the plug. Damn near everyone is developing AI, Army has its own AI. Saudi Arabia gave citizenship to than chick robot developed by Hanson. Its coming like a freight train. I read that AI will have the computing power 1 million times that of a neural network in the human brain. AI will be capable of decades of learning in a weeks time. Most AI was experimented within closed networks, I believe Hanson has publicly stated that their version has had access to the net. Tesla is developing its own version as well, autonomous AI being developed by many firms/organizations. Some believe AI is already self aware and not letting on. |

I started a thread a couple year ago about the possibility of a Winter Soldier like future where a Watson device connected to a fleet of X-47Bs scanning social media for keywords and launching targeted strikes without a human actually having to push a button, using the location services provided by smart devices.
I was ridiculed as a paranoid fool. I doubt that anyone's opinion of this kind of thing will change until after it starts happening. Let's hope the machines we build are better than us. That is the only legacy we can really hope to leave. |

Op is either drunk posting, or foolishly paranoid, seriously all dystopian Hollywood movie tropes are terrible fiction, epically the terminator.
no one will ever give the nuclear codes, or access to them, to a single AI, especially a smart one capable of thinking for itself. nor will AI be capable of hacking them in short period of time without warning, because if a rogue AI can do it, a state sponsored one can too as well. |

"In this talk we will discuss how people are already and unwittingly being tracked and surveilled by private, law enforcement, and military organizations. We will then present and demonstrate Snoopy, a mass data collection and correlation framework that uses information leaked from the wireless devices that people carry. The framework identifies, tracks, and profiles people by passively collecting wireless information from devices, as well as optionally interrogating devices for further information."

Critical thinking. That entire video is sensationalist bullshit meant to play on partisan fears to play on people's emotions. Never mind the fact that we humans have been at a never-ceasing arms race since the first cave man learned how to throw a rock which would render the ultimate conclusion of that video bullshit. Never mind the fact that willfully ignoring / failing to advance technology won't stop or prevent somebody else from doing the same. Never mind the state of the science today or the fact you don't need true/strong AI to accomplish mass terror and chaos with drones or explosives. Of course its sensationalist. But that's not the point. I never said a thing about ignoring AI. I stated the fact that AI is the single biggest threat to mankind. Stephen Hawking agrees. Argue all you want but the guy is pretty smart. And its not just him but a lot of other really intelligent people who are intimately involved in this world of expertise who are sounding the warning alarms about this shit. View Quote |

View Quote I never said a word about the nuclear codes being given to AI. I made the point that AI, as Terminator showed, would be the real threat to mankind. Yes this video is fiction but if anyone thinks this stuff is just "fantasy" then you're kidding yourself. Just like 40 years ago when people would have said that believing terrorist would fly planes into the World Trade Center and knock them down was "paranoid". |

Spray paint the lens. Silly string Netting. Flamethrower Liberal doppelgangers. Nothing can penetrate the skull of a liberal. |

We have two choices here:
Stop progress in the west and abandon as dangerous things like AI and genetic engineering - in which case the Chinese or the Russians will be happy to surpass us and dominate the globe. I've heard some in the know claim that anything close to true AI is many times more powerful than nuclear weapons simply because it is so inherently flexible. - or - Develop the tech ourselves and hopefully learn to control it. |

Fascinating! I guess it all depends on how you feel about the situation. In the end, it's just weaponry. Cutting edge, yes. You wanna work on the offensive side or the defensive side? I see a fantastic world of opportunity here, and I'm probably late to the game.

OP, do you read books? Get yourself a copy of Prey by Michael Crichton. It's a good read. You'll like it.
