I have had My Leather Jacket for 15years now. It was my first one that was a Christmas present when i was 15-16. It was entirely too large but i slowly grew into it. It has been my workhorse jacket for the majority of its life and has seen better days. I casually started watching for a Jacket to replace it for general-formal public use, keeping the older one for farm/outdoor/rougher occasions.
Yesterday, I found what i was looking for new Jacket I found this jacket at an outlet mall new... and i payed 200 bucks for it including tax.. my old workhorse for comparison: Attached File Attached File |

The new jacket looks good but I think the old jacket had very high character points.

I still have & wear a leather jacket I bought almost 40 years ago. It still looks nice.
Take care of it & it should last you your lifetime. ETA you did well. Now go put some socks on. |

Looks lighter weight then your old one.
I purchased a couple leather items from Sportsmansguide and treated them with products I've been using for 15 years now. You can make a stiff leather garment you got on closeout/wholesale look like it was just made by a top leather manufacturer. First to add moisture right of the bat since stuff may get dry waiting for sale: Grasso Then as an additional treatment and add a wax surface that brushes to a nice satin shine easily using carnuba wax and lanolin: URAD I used to restore old leather items and treat new saddles with this stuff. I have coated a saddle with URAD and ridden on it 5 minutes later and it did not stain light color jeans at all. Great product on shoes if you aren't looking for a spit shine. Additionally it will make brand new chaps feel like they are well broken in, extra soft and supple. Tack left hanging in humid barn in summer doesn't mildew like it would with what passes for neatsfoot oil in western tack stores nowadays. |

I looked at the information at the link.
Dang, those things run small. |

I miss my leather jacket, but I'm losing weight too fast still to justify spending the money on a decent one and I'm not willing to buy a shitty one.

Anyone know what kind of jacket Russell Crow wore in The Nice Guys?
If I try to wear a black leather jacket I look like a wannabe greaser. A blue jacket though, that might look better. |

Inspired by the OP's new jacket, I sprung for one too--the $125 bomber. Free shipping signing up for their email spam.

I like the old one better OP. Give it a scrub with saddle soap then rub some mink oil on it, it will be good for many more years of casual use.

Fonzie wouldn't have bought and worn a jacket made in China.

View Quote Attached File Attached File Like I said earlier, I was not kind to this one in my youth. The old one will need some TLC. I forget which poster gave some advice, but I’ll start there. The arms are still just a tad long. So I could use a bit of tailoring to clean up the cuffs. |

I bought a Schott leather jacket about a month ago. LOVE it so far. https://image.rakuten.co.jp/jasana/cabinet/schott/184sm-brn_p1.jpg Can't wait for it to have some good patina like the one you picked up View Quote |

I LOVE bomber jackets.
I've got a black one, that is a kind of bomber jacket. What I'd really love is one of those horse hide repos, but they seem to start at about $800. |

Who makes a good quality leather jacket anymore? Most of the leather now is cheap chinese crap. I bought a Brooks probably 20 yrs ago and it was high quality. Unfortunately, I didnt stay the same size.

I would hate to know the cost to have someone properly redo those cuffs on the old jacket but last year I got a big ol leather jacket that did not fit several other folks. Sleeves are too long.
I have not really read up on leather working or anything and doubt I will tackle it myself, but I will know about it so when I talk to someone who is going to do it I know what I think of their knowledge. Same as having boots redone, if the person just sort of shrugs and says yeah they can do it and they have some experience I kind of wonder if the boots will be worth much when I get em back. Show me someone who knows their art and has the experience and it tends to show through. I guess you could always sew some mittens onto the end of the sleeves to cover up the worn parts, and not lose your mittens. |

Um you should be more worried about cleaning your couch and carpet then a jacket.
