We Were Soldiers, Hacksaw Ridge, Wind Talkers, Enemy at the Gates, The Green Berets, Red Dawn, Inchon, Pearl Harbor, The Patriot, Fly Boys, Behind Enemy Lines, U-571, Alexander, The Thin Red Line, Gods and Generals.
For the record, The Thin Red Line has some of best cinematography ever produced. The film score is also noteworthy ("Journey to the Line" in particular). Also worth mentioning is the incredible aerial cinematography during the attack in Pearl Harbor. It's worth watching just for that alone. |

It is a shame too as the real Dobbs deserved a better movie than that. Click To View Spoiler When the BAR man used a torso for a shield I knew it was a certified turd. The Thin Red Line. Mopey, emo, liberal pile of steaming dung. That movie is an existential masterpiece. I liked the concept of the movie and the cinematography and music were very well done, but truthfully, it fell short of the mark. It had potential, but that was eroded once the viewer is introduced to character after character after character with very little in terms of development of said characters. I see it as something that probably has more depth and character development in a book - not a film. |

Tears of the Sun. But Monica's bewbs make it watchable, barely. View Quote I've always thought the premise was pretty stupid with that one. Bruce disobeys his orders to rescue only the dumb cunt and decides to rescue a village of useless africans along with the dumb cunt and gets several highly trained, highly skilled American special forces killed to do it. All because he wants to fuck the dumb cunt. The movie should have went like this: Bruce: We're here to evacuate you. Dumb cunt: I'm not leaving without my people. Bruce: Suit yourself. (10 minutes later the chopper takes off and passes over the village and Bruce and the team look down as Dumb Cunt gets a train ran on her by 200 men.) The End. |

The only ones in my list that are truly unwatchable are U-571 (quite possibly one of the worst films ever made, let alone a war film), The Green Berets (it's God awful), and Wind Talkers (don't even get me started on that shit pile). The rest I can tolerate and will watch for certain scenes that are done very well. |

What some people here don't seem to understand is that The Thin Red Line is a movie set in a war but not a war movie. It isn't Saving Private Ryan: Part 2, The Pacific
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Casualties of War (1989, Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn), http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097027/ |

Somehow I knew before even opening the thread that someone had found one of the Chinese propaganda movies. They show these all of the time in China still. Either the heroic Chinese are killing the Japanese while dying in droves or the Japanese are killing all of the Chinese men and children before raping the women then killing them too and burning down the villages. Very formulaic. You can find plaques around various places that describe the various atrocities committed by the Japanese during WWII, and they most certainly did commit quite a lot of them; somewhat strangely there are also plaques commemorating the Americans for helping the Chinese people against the Japanese, especially the volunteer air corps. Interestingly, as much as the Chinese government works to keep the hatred of the Japanese going, the Chinese people themselves have taken an interest in the Japanese culture since realizing that Mao destroyed much of their own.

Anything with Ben Gazarra in it. Fireball Forward had a great scene where a jeep is driving along and explodes - killing nobody - then Ben yells "We got hit by a mine!" |

Enemy at the Gates. Worst sex scene ever View Quote Loooooved Enemy At The Gates growing up. I recently re-watched it and caught myself pricing surplus soviet shelter halfves and mosins before the flick was up. Looking back on it, wtf was Ron Pearlman doing in that film? Why did they throw in a love interest at all? That sex scene was akward as hell. Jude Law was a stud. Whats the old guy actors name? He made a kick ass Nazi. Probably one of my favorite childhood movies. Right up there with Zulu, Last of the Mohicans and The Ghosts and The Darkness. |

This or We Were Soldiers Are you high? I was thoroughly upset with Hacksaw Ridge. Even my GF was laughing at the horrid scenes up on the ridge |

I've always hated The Battle of the Bulge with Fonda and Robert Shaw.
Should have been good, but it was horrible. |

Thin Red Line is actually pretty good besides being a little slow at times.
The second half of Full Metal Jacket was awful. Tigerland was bad but I watched it twice for some reason. Hamburger Hill was bad. I actually liked U-571 and Behind Enemy Lines even though they're not too realistic at times. Das Boot, Black Hawk Down, Platoon, and the first half of FMJ were really good. Especially Black Hawk Down, not just for the gunfights but for the ideals of going out to rescue your comrades. The Patriot? I like my coffee black and my tea in the harbor. Great film. |

How could anyone say that "Gods and Generals" was the worst war film ever made?

One of the worst things about We Were Soldiers was really cutting back to the wives in the middle of the battle. I didn't care for that.
