Really, man?  You really want to live in world where freakishly giant  six legged insects don't exist?

A. Kill it with fire

B. Nuke it from orbit

C. Eject from the planet

D.  All of the above

i know insects are tough and all, but it's almost a miracle that nothing killed the rest of the species off during those decades. I mean, one disease...or one thing that killed off the vegetation, or a more serious rock slide....or damn near anything else and these things would be extinct. Talk about will to survive!

Pretty cool.  I wouldn't want them around my place, but pretty cool

This.  Lots of luck involved as well.  Can't imagine an entire species living and surviving off of one small group of bushes on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere for decades with no one knowing about them.
Amazing

M855, of course. It's the only round that will pierce the exoskeleton.

so the entire known population of this insect is going to be from 2 insects. One would hope for a bit more genetic diversity

This is old news. They took a breeding pair. I was actually just thinking about these bugs the other day when I saw a gigantic moth in the laundry room. It was fucking huge and beefy (like hummingbird big). Made me think about how big these bugs must be first hand.

Still that is not much diversity unless insects operate differently. Not that the world missed them all that much

That was a great article.

I had to fast forward through the hatching.  It was almost physically painful to watch the struggle to free itself.
