[ARCHIVED THREAD] - SUB2000 (Page 1 of 2)

Just picked up a SUB2000 (glock mags) in 9mm, $499 was just too tempting to pass up. I'll have to post pics when I get off work. Anybody have opinions on a red dot / mount? I see Kel-Tec sells a mount so I was thinking about that, I doubt I'll go as far as a quad rail. The only red dots I have are random ones I've found at LGS's, whats a good choice for a really compact one (reflex style or whatever, not the tube one) in the $100 dollar range? I hope this thing likes Blazer Brass... |
Wow- I paid $300.00 for one a few years back . All I did was replace the front sight with a Red Lion Precision one in order to maintain the folding functionality.
The manual says no aluminum cased ammo other than that I've fed mine everything from Silver Bear to Black Hills +P- no problems. Glock 33 round mags work great. I was able to get a couple of cheap KCI 33 round mags working by replacing the factory springs with Wolf springs. |

$499 was too good to pass up? What the hell are they going for nowadays? Got mine for half that way back when. Yeah, that's high, but maybe the market has changed. I think I payed $350 for mine from Hyatt's (known to be the highest price store in Charlotte) 2-3 years ago. |
|
I would shoot it a bit before you worry about trying to get a red-dot that doesn't interfere with its folding , and other accessories.
I like mine but the novelty wore off quickly and I'm glad i didn't spend a ton of money getting extra goodies for it. ETA: that's about what I paid, and the going rate if you REALLY want one. Good Shooting! |

I only came here to shit on the SUB2000, what a waste of money. You should've spent it building a 9mm AR. Yeah for 5 bills I'd have to think twice. People fawn over it whenever I bring it to the range though- I keep telling them it's a marginal weapon, the bare minimum I'd hand to someone I love to defend themselves with. |

I'll have to look up that front sight - the plastic one does leave something to be desired. I put the small factory rail piece on the fore rail and hung a cheap lazer/light TLR2 clone on it with the pressure switch held to the forearm with rings of innertube. Works Rather Nicely. I've also fed mine more Blazer Aluminum that I can bother to count. No ill effects so far. Maybe it's a bigger problem on non-9mm models? |

Also for replacement sights look up Tandemkross, and look on eBay and there is all kinds of accessories, including a single point metal sling mount. |

OP, I have plenty of toys in the safe. . . and the Sub 2000 is one of my favorites.
It doesn't jam, it shoots great out of the box, and it takes glock mags. . . what more do you want? the one and only downside is that it gets really dirty really quickly, and the bolt has to weigh like 8lbs haha. You'll love it, good choice. |

Quoted: bought mine for 325, sold it for 425. guy who bought it was happy and i was happy. ok gun, but not really better than my 9mm ar or my uzi rifle. I'm not saying it is better, but it definitely isn't comparable. |

This company makes some upgrades for KelTecs, inclusing useful stuff for the Sub.
I picked up their screw kit and the folding metal rear sight. What a difference that has made! I have the .40 (wish it was the 9mm but got it last summer during the scare) that uses Glock mags, Red Lion forend and will probably throw my PA Micro on it. http://www.tandemkross.com/ |

I wish the 9mm Glock 19 compatible ones were more common, I'd love one as a truck gun that could take my handgun mags. None of the S2K's are plentiful, however the Glock 17 version seems to be one of the most plentiful of the S2K's being produced. You can cut the grip from the Glock 17 version down to fit 19 mags easily. Lots of how-to threads and videos out there. |

I know there will always be "cheap gun haters" so that doesn't surprise me lol. I guess $499 isn't a steal but they are pretty hard to find lately. Big dumb magazine lol, dude at the shop said it's not junk, we will see. Even let them rip me off on some ammo! Lol It seems cool so far, and I don't even own a 9mm so I figured fuck it why not. I agree I'm gonna try out this funny pink sight before I fuck with a red dot. Hopefully take it out to Guns Plus Saturday. |

I picked one up as a range toy. Wife, who never got comfortable with handguns, fell in love with it. Light, stubby, easy to shoot, easy to hit with... the poor man's MP-5. It became her bedroom gun, and I picked up another for the 'Mumbai kit' I keep stashed in the truck. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I saw them priced as high as 1K not that long ago so what you paid might be more than suggested retail, but if you're good with it who really cares what anyone else thinks.
If want to check out a Kel-tec specific site with good sub2000 info go to ktog.com forum. There's some good info there. They are very unique and a handy carbine. The early ones were all aluminum but are pretty hard to find. Congrats and enjoy! ILB |

Fun little gun to shoot. |

Those things are awesome for what they are: An emergency, easily foldable/concealable 9mm carbine. You simply can't compare it to a semi-auto Uzi or other pistol-caliber carbine since it's not being used for the same purpose. That's it. When they weren't sure where the Boston bombers went, when they could even have come up the 3 corridor, mine was tucked in my laptop bag. The world has some dangerous times now even here, and that fits the bill for a just in case that doesn't scare the liberals. |

As much as I think people have way too much rail on their rifles vs what they actually use, I wish they put a small section of rail under the front for a light. BAM! |

Maybe someone that has an early aluminum model will post a pic. They should make those again. |

Have a couple of Sub2K's.
Shot 'em a lot. Carry one in the truck. But the LATEST Glock-mag carbine is the Mech-Tech. You use your Glock 'lower' and slide it into a 16" Mech-Tech upper...They even have a 10mm model!!! Build it all up right with BUIS and an empty extension tube and CTR stock (M4 style stock of your choice) and you have a great, RELIABLE, carbine that'll run on Glock mags because it IS A GLOCK. My 'new' 10mm Mech-Tech has bee 100% reliable and accurate for the first 1000+ rounds! Can't stop shootin the thing and my teenagers love it. Hog hunting in it's future. |

Love mine. It has never once FTE/FTF. And I never clean the damn thing. RLP parts can be hard to get a hold of (just requires some patience) but very solid additions. The Red Lion stuff looks very well made, I saw their products over on ktog first, in fact the folks over there helped him with feed back if I remember right. BTW your sig line cracked me up...
