DOHA, Qatar (AP) — Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is ordering the U.S.
military to transport troops from Burundi into the Central African
Republic to help quell the latest upsurge in violence there.

He approved the order at the request of the French defense minister.

Pentagon
spokesman Carl Woog says Hagel directed the U.S. Africa Command to
begin transporting forces in coordination with France because the U.S.
believes immediate action is needed to avert a humanitarian catastrophe
.

No, they are just providing U.S. airlift capability for other countries' forces - who don't have the force projection capability of the U.S.

We've been there for some time.  We have advisers in the DRC and Uganda, as well as troops doing things all over the continent.  This is just a transport mission.

That is an admirable strategic goal. Wish we'd be more honest about it.

It sounds too… colonial for the pantywaists to get behind, though.

We've had troops in Africa for years.  There is an Africa Command in DOD.  And this is just airlift, which we do a lot of.
