Drunk caucasian Goldman Sachs employee yells "N*****!" at a black couple who are quietly trying to enjoy their burritos. The male patron, Reddish, strikes the Goldman Sachs employee once in the face, knocking him out. Reddish is arrested and his victim taken to the hospital.

You don't get to punch people for saying things you don't like. Both men lack self control. Wrong. Fighting words, insulting the lady.... So this was ok then? |

You don't get to punch people for saying things you don't like. Both men lack self control. I agree. A friend said this last week. "Words are just words. They only become offensive if you give them a meaning." Yep. Why care what a random stranger, who's obviously got problems if he's picking fights with strangers, says or thinks? Adolescent children let their hormones and dicks think for them. Adults shouldn't. Edit: In this case, the random asshole was being loud and obnoxious. Tell the manager, he'll throw the dumbass out. |

Quoted: This. Even if the first guy is a complete and total prick, a despicable fuck, an absolute piece of human refuse, the second guy is now only marginally better. We don't get to just be whackin folks around because they say things we don't like. DamnYou don't get to punch people for saying things you don't like. Both men lack self control. |
|
Quoted: Absolutely deserved it. Drunk guy walks up, bumps into your table while you are with your girl, starts mouthing off and using racial slurs, acting in a aggressive manner. How would you expect not to get laid out? Expect the other person to be civilized perhaps? He beat the guy up and then ran away like a common criminal. The drunk guy didn't lay a finger on him. |

There was a time years back where rude talk would get the offender a pop to the chin and no one blinked an eye. If I was on the jury, the gentleman that did the hitting would walk. There was a time and place where a posse would hang a person, with no real jury to speak of. Just brutal mob justice. I'm glad we don't live in those times anymore. |

It worked admirably in the Boston area in the late 18th century. Got us a war and all, but also independence from tyranny. I'd countenance it occurring again for the right reasons....and preferably somewhere near the Potomac. |

The drunk had it coming.
ETA: Eh, technically/legally a bad punch, unless the drunk made a threatening or aggressive move. Certainly can't say I feel sorry for the drunk, though. __________________________________________________________________ Cross-platform gun database/electronic bound book (v1.3.2) (and the original thread). ยซnolite confidere in principibus, in filiis hominum quibus non est salusยป |

Who knows...drunk ass guy bumping all over the place, shouting fighting words, maybe the "puncher" thought the next step was a physical altercation, and took preventative/defensive measures...?
I dunno...tough to read through the goldman sachs bullshit (even though they are ciminals, mostly). If the guy had a leg to stand on he probably shouldn't have bounced right after he knocked the guy out. I'm less concerned about the racial epithets than I am about the "aggressive and angry man trying to start shit while I'm having a fucking burito with my wife" scenario, in which perhaps he was protecting his woman from the aggressive drunk who was hollering about having a fight. |
|
After reading news stories week after week about people being killed with single blows I have evolved my opinion. I used to think if you said certain things you probably deserved what was coming your way, however, someone saying something you don't like is not justification for striking an individual knowing it may very well kill them. Bad punch.

, though. Very little coverage of the actual incident, lots of evil banker hate.
