Alright, here's the deal. My family gets a benefit of being able to go on cruises for steeply discounted prices, or even free. If we were to move to the Miami area, we would essentially be able to take a free cruise any time we wanted. Go out for a 3/4 day cruise every weekend or every other weekend... 7-14 day cruises for vacations, etc... I've never been to Florida, and I'm not really eager to move, but that is a seriously tempting offer. Nothing would change as far as our income, I'm sure CoL would be more in the Miami area than around here... If we're going to have to pay around $1000/month more for living expenses, then we could stay here and use that money to fly to a port, but we wouldn't be able to go out nearly as often. Thoughts?
ETA humidity is not a concern, I could live anywhere up to 100 miles from Miami proper. |

Take a vacation over here.
Rent a house/apartment in the area you would like to live in for a week and see for yourself before going all in. Born and raised in Miami. I love this city. I have lived in NYC and GA. Nothing beats Miami. You trade off open dry land for hiking and shooting for open oceans for fishing and water activities. |

Does your family live in the Miami area?
How often could you really use the benefit? Often weekends get eaten up with other responsibilities. Check in the Florida HTF and see if you really want to lilve in Miami, not sure how the crime rate is there today but it was pretty high. |

No family here either, they are all up in central/northern UT. I think we'd probably be able to go 1-2 times a month for the 3-day cruises. We're pretty low-maintenance and can set our schedules however we want.

I was looking for a quick website about mean elevation above sea level so I could make a joke about Miami and found this BS.

Let me get this straight.
You have never been on a cruise and have never been to FL but you are considering moving to Miami to go on free cruises 
Why don't you take a vacation, fly to Miami and go on a cruise and see what it is like. You might just hate both of them |

Yup, and parts of the beach are as low as 0.01 inches above sea level! |

You might just hate both of them Hence the title 'Should I consider'. Just looking for input from people who have done some cruising, and people from the area. We're clearly not going to move if we don't enjoy it. ETA I would be extremely surprised if I didn't enjoy it. Wife unit has done it before, and she pretty much just wants beach somewhere. Getting access to beaches in the Caribbean would just be added bonus. I tend to enjoy just about anything/anywhere, so it probably won' be an issue. |

Miami areas, Brickell = 8st sw and brickell ave .higher cost apartment living on the bay with dozens of restaurants/bars Coconut Grove = Bay Shore Dr and 27 ave .high/middle class dense living bay front views but surrounded by ghetto. Coral Gables = Le June Rd and Coral Way .high/middle class older homes mostly family's. With some new apartments on Coral Way. Kendall = 137 ave and Coral Way .middle class with some expensive large land properties in the mix. Young families. Homestead = outside the city, farm land, with some nice developsment homes, some ghetto, some really bad ghettos. But your money gets you more land. All these locations are 5 -40mins away from the Port of Miami as ordered. Hope that helps. |

Never having been to Florida, don't even consider taking a job there before visiting. Humidity isn't a problem for me, I have experience with that. I think the CoL in a decent area will just end up being too much. |
