I know a woman who recently lost her husband in an accident while working at home. I'm pretty sure she killed him but that's another story altogether.
What I'm wondering is this: she is blowing money like she hit the jackpot. He was an E-4 or E-5... not sure which. How much does she receive as a lump sum and monthly? |

No enduring pay that I'm aware of....here's the Military death benifits web site. I had a buddy killed years ago and his wife ran through the 400K in 8 months...she literally sponsored a Rock band and toured with them for that period or at least until she was broke. Sad. Edit: Looks like I was wrong. It appears that the Mil does pay an annuity to the surving spouse after the death of an AD member. It's not much but it is something: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/theorderlyroom/a/adutydeath_2.htm |

In for the other story. Short version: Airman was warned months ago (while he was deployed) that a neighbor back home was bragging around town about having an affair with the airman's wife. Airman dismissed the warnings. Neighbor worked on the plumbing while the airman was deployed. Upon returning to the states, the Airman was working on the plumbing with the same neighbor, when he was mysteriously electrocuted. Electrical inspectors could find nothing wrong with the house. A very short time later, neighbor and Airman's wife are "hanging out" frequently. So... draw your own conclusions. |

Whatever his SGLI coverage was, max of $400,000. Plus we had additional insurance through the state militia association. I carried the additional term life insurance on all of the family members, since the whole life policies my wife insisted on carrying on herself and the kids paid peanuts I think i was worth $750,000 IIRC with that policy factored in |

I remember hearing a story where a Marine died, possibly poisoned. Wife gets the money and starts wild'n out sleeping around all over the place and gets tons of plastic surgery. Not sure if this story is true but sounds pretty believable. |

I called them and they seemed bored or anxious to get back to whatever they were doing. Someone suggested I write a letter to the local prosecutor. I definitely think it should be investigated. | I knew a female Soldier that married a guy in some SF support unit while in Replacement company (yes they got married in less than a week of her being on base). She was hooking up with a lot of people before he deployed, when he deployed she kept on doing her thing. The guy died and she got paid. She spent it all and other than a car that is already dated she has nothing to show for it. Shit makes me mad to think about it even to this day. |

Have you called the police, and informed them of your suspicions, it's the least you can do for the Airman that got fucked over, figuratively and apparently litterily as well. I have. They seemed... bored. Does anyone know if contacting a prosecutor or the DA would do any good? |

You'd probably have the best luck getting in touch with the lawyers of the insurance company.

Well guys, there are always exceptions....
I know three widows. One, her husband was SF with 5th or 7th SFG at Bragg. Wife lost him in a "training accident" that was supposedly caused by him touching his OE antenna to a power line. She moved to Jacksonville NC and purchased a nice neighborhood and didn't fuck everyone like there was no tomorrow. Real nice gal and very good looking with four kids. She actually conducted herself like a person with some class and not the stereotypes we read about here in GD. Another is a gal who lost her husband while he was on his third tour in Iraq as a major with the 7th Marines back in the earlier part of the post-invasion Iraq. He'd only been in-country for a week or less when his vehicle hit an IED. He was prior enlisted, and actually met his wife through her mother when he was on a flight going somewhere and the mom said "I'd bet you'd love to meet my daughter". That was it, and the next thing you know they married after dating for a period of time. She elected to stay in 29 Stumps for the support after he was KIA, but she's another very attractive gal who honored her husband'd death by conducting herself like a lady and not some common whore. The third was a friend of the second gal above (that's how we started our conversation-turned out we both knew Dawn). I met her the same day at the same party as the SF widow (it was a "house warming" party for a friend of ours that was the "3" chief of 1 / 9 before he deployed to Iraq-she lived around the corner in the same new subdivision). This gal's hubby was a GySgt at 29 Stumps and died in Iraq. She was older by about ten years and very good looking as well. They had a son together. She moved to Jacksonville NC for the support out there as well (she knew others in the same boat). She was sipping a beer at the party, but she was on anti-depressants and kind of a wreck. I felt really bad for her, but she wasn't one of those drugged-out train wrecks either. She spoke to me at some length about her loss. Later on, the wife and I used to see her in town, and she was doing much better-more coherent and apparently coming to grips with her loss. Still single. One time the wife and I were at Cracker Barrel getting breakfast on a Saturday, and she and her young son were eating there as well. They were alone and both very quiet and subdued looking. It was so sad-heart breaking really. They never saw us, and I didn't want to approach them because it didn't seem like they were wanting anyone to interfere with what was obviously a very private moment. Anyway, the point of all this, is that some women have the class and dignity to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of admiration and praise. I've seen it-in Jacksonville, NC of all fucking places. |
