My son came home with a good progress report from school...the wife was running late so I suggested Five Guys (my son loves the place)

Little bacon cheeseburger

Little Cheeseburger

Large cajun fries (bring home the extra)

2 drinks

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
$20.15

ME =

My wife hates the place, I like it (not crazy for it)...so it's usually bonding time with my son and has never broke the $16.00 barrier (which I thought was high, but I dealt with it)

I think they are excellent at French Fries.

You can really taste the fresh potato taste vs. the frozen, partially cooked ones most places use.

They are expensive though.

I'd hardly call them cheap, but they aren't exactly expensive with todays standards either... I'm a fan anyway. Hell even fast food is nearly that anymore.....

$20 for some fast food is pushing the limits

Holy shit, fuck that! I thought Tennessee's %9.25 sales tax was bad.

Way too tax. You get a lot of fries but i need two of those burgers.

Yikes!!! I thought California was outrageous when I bailed out.

0% here in MT.

Should have skipped the drinks. You could probably get a 12 pack for the price of two fast food sodas.

Link Posted: 9/9/2010 8:37:04 PM EDT
Pricey, but I like. Not pricey, but the food.
Link Posted: 9/9/2010 8:45:02 PM EDT
I had 5 Guys tonight on the way to my son's football game. Didn't even know there was one that close until we drove past. Glad it's over 1/2 hour from home.

Cheeseburger and Hamburger and a regular fry $14.00.

I'm still stuffed and we didn't even finish the fries.

Five Guys

hmmmmmmm
never heard of it.

Maybe that's good. Maybe that's bad.

It used to be 15% because of the federal GST. that came down a bit, and now we're getting dicked around with a harmonized sales tax (provincial taxes didn't count for certain things, but do now)

My daughter and I went to Applebees today and had the lunch special burgers & baked potatoes with 2 drinks...we came in at $20 + tip.

For $20, I'd rather go there.

I almost never eat fast food but when I do its always Five Guys or Chick fil a.

Cheese burger with mustard, A1, and a regular fry is $8.61. Also grab some extra peanuts on the way out for the guys at work.

Got to pay for the bagged milk somehow....
Link Posted: 9/9/2010 9:31:24 PM EDT
I don't classify them as "fast food" for comparison. More of a in-between sort of crossover thing.

I believe they deliver for the $ if you don't want to do it at home.

If it cost less, it would probably taste less.

McDonalds (which is shit) has ceased to be cheap and god knows what their meat is made out of.

I wanted to open one here, but their franchise fees and requirements are pretty harsh.
Link Posted: 9/9/2010 9:33:25 PM EDT
Expensive compared to what? Assmeat at mcd's? It's less than you'd pay at chili's...

Exactly. You can't go to the highest rated "fast-food" burger joint in the country and not expect the price to reflect that.

I don't know how people eat at that place. If I am going to consume all that fat and calories I want something that tastes great. Not something that tastes like shit.
Link Posted: 9/9/2010 9:49:15 PM EDT
I ate at my first one this summer, and was not impressed. Food was average, and certainly not worth the price tag.

Five guys is expensive, but its so fucking delicious. Since i eat fast food at most once every 6 weeks or so, a few bucks is worth getting a quality greasebomb

You are honestly the first the person I have ever heard say that.

do you realize what kinda kick ass burger and fries you could make at home for that price?
Link Posted: 9/9/2010 10:10:40 PM EDT
Skip the drinks. Get water. It's better for you anyway.

It's quick but definitely not a "fast food restaurant" in any meaning. Burger meat doesn't touch the griddle until ordered and paid for. Best fries ever.

What he said.....I get mine with out the cheese or Mayo and load up on vegis so its not that bad. I figure a little fat is ok, since I run 4 miles about 3-4 times a week.

Very true.

Also if you just get a bacon cheeseburger its about the same price as a triple premium whatever at McDonalds/Burger King/Wendy’s.

Agreed. I have.

Sometimes I don't feel like it but want a decent burger that I'm willing to get out of the car for, wait a few minutes for but not make a sit-down restaurant production out of.

It's not the holy grail of all burgers but it –– with those fries –– gets the job done for a price that is acceptable.

Plus, they will make it damn close to exactly how you want it, toppings and all.

By the way, I'm a big eater but you damn sure can usually split a "regular" fries between two three three-and-a-half people.
Link Posted: 9/10/2010 2:50:41 AM EDT
You could get the same thing ay In&Out for 14 dollars...

For a fast food burger I usually end up at Whataburger. I've eaten at 5 Guys, not impressed for the price. It's hard to find a good burger unless you hit a non chain place around here. Everyone seems to want to cook them into hockey puck status. I prefer mine medium rare.

Cheeburger Cheeburger (if you have one near you.)

5-oz., 8-oz., 10-oz. or 16-oz. fresh-made ground chuck burgers that blow 5 Guys out of the water. They will cook to order.

The burger at Five Guys is probably a little smaller than one from Applebees, but I'd rather have Five Guys. Applebees is basically fast food IMO anyway. You're probably getting fresher food at Five Guys.

I love that stuff, but I feel the need to shower after I eat one.

A little pricey and the fries kind of suck, I think.

Link Posted: 9/10/2010 3:38:25 AM EDT
Oh boy. Look and ye shall find.

I guess the prices are going up... uh oh!

Good thing Wendy's is "introducing higher quality bacon to its menu". Some things are better left unsaid.

On the plus side, I typically don't get bacon on a Five Guys burger.

I do think I like how the CEO makes forward-looking statements however. Heck yes and I'll skin 'em. Works for me.

http://money.cnn.com/2010/08/24/news/bacon_prices/index.htm

<snip> "Heck yes we'll raise prices" Five Guys Burgers and Fries, a national restaurant chain famous for its bacon-loaded burgers, has already raised prices "a little" to keep up with soaring costs. But it would rather charge more for one of its bacon burgers than skimp on bacon. "Heck yes we'll raise prices –– even if the price of bacon were to triple we'd just charge more money," said Five Guys CEO Jerry Murrell. "The worst thing we could do is cut back on the bacon, and if I do catch anyone cutting back I'm gonna skin 'em." Murrell added though that the price of bacon is only around 4% of the cost to make a burger. So the price increase could end up raising the price of a burger at Five Guys by just a few cents.

Wendy's isn't willing to cut back on bacon either, and is actually introducing higher quality bacon to its menu –– without raising prices. When asked how the restaurant could afford to do this if prices continue to rise: "Time will tell," a spokesman for the chain, a subsidiary of Wendy's/Arby's Group (WEN) said. "We're not speculating at this time."

Holy shit, fuck that! I thought Tennessee's %9.25 sales tax was bad.

Now Try European VAT (Sales Tax)
UK 17.5% (rising to 20% in 2011)
Germany 22%,
Sweden 25%
Denmark 25%
Norway 25%
etc.

That is the socialist future comrade!

There is a Five Guys half a mile from my office. Everyday I struggle to keep from going there.

Everyday.

My arteries appreciate it.

It's bullshit but the burger is worth it when you crave a real burger. You in the Richmond area by chance?

Two value meals at McDonalds is going to cost you around $13. So I don't think $20 is that outlandish.
Link Posted: 9/10/2010 6:28:08 AM EDT
I love the place, but I would agree it is expensive for fast food. I eat plenty of places that cost more, but they are all sit down type places.
