If someone is brand new to printing and is looking at an x2d as their first printer, what else should they buy when ordering the printer? I'm thinking about the x2d/ams pro combo and a half dozen rolls of different filament. Should I start with basic pla or are there any filaments that I should look at for printing useful stuff in the beginning? |

Tools like a good pair of snips and putty knife are great to have. Dry boxes and/or vacuum sealing ziplock bags and dessicant. |

For the filament it is good to start with PLA but you will want more quickly if you start printing and keep going. PETG is the next best step since it adds some durability and heat resistance. Assuming you'll move to ABS/ASA and higher levels engineering filaments, you won't want a huge stock in PLA. I've only been printing since February and I've got mostly PETG, ABS, and ASA. |

I'll second that about PLA. It's a no-brainer filament to learn on. I use it mostly for prototyping and printing nic-nacs (sp?) and stuff that stays inside the house. It's not as durable as PETG which can live outdoors. Welcome to the hobby. Beware it is a money pit. |

My son is interested in printing little articulated figures to sell off my table at gun shows. Is PLA good for those or should we use something better? The ams ht isn't in the budget right up front, I figured it was better to buy filaments and be able to print stuff instead of having more tooling that I could only look at for another month. Lol Does the smaller nozzle slow down print speed a bunch? Also, does the dual nozzle on this machine help with color changes? Some of the stuff my son wants to print is 3-4 colors. Are there filaments that are good for building useful things that don't require the ams ht? |

Other than size, the biggest update looks like added compatibility with AMS 2 Pro's. It's not a printer that I'm particularly interested in but I'm sure some people will be happy with it. |

1 of my h2ds is down, got an left eddy sensor error, bambu sent a new sensor and i swapped it out ( a pain ) still does the same so they sent me a new board and another sensor. still the same. UGh..... i can still print from the right nozzle perfect so not overly a huge deal but they want to send me more parts... I escalated it saying time to replace it seeing your fixes didnt work. if not i do have an extended warranty on it but well see, they seem to be pretty decent with it so far. the other h2d just had its first maintenance with some cleaning and lubing.... this one is a workhorse. |

Are there filaments that are good for building useful things that don't require the ams ht? Look up the commercial licensing cost for the models he wants to print. Some creators will charge $20/mo to sell prints from their designs via subscription to Patreon, Thangs, MyMiniFactory, etc, so he should pick a limited number of designers with the designs he thinks are most likely to sell and go with those. The AMS Pro can dry filaments if you have the power cable (does it come with the printer combo bundle?), but not the strong ones like the HT can. Having the AMS 1 or Pro plus an AMS HT is nice because the HT can dry a spool independently of what you're doing with the rest of the printer or feed yet another color into the printer with it. If he's making stuff to sell, he'll want throughput capacity and want the printer running as much as possible so he won't want to wait for the AMS Pro to dry one roll of filament while the other three are ready to print. I print a lot of multicolor stuff and I have an AMS (non-Pro) and two HTs (plus one non-connected dryer from before the HT was released that I rarely use anymore). The biggest advantage of the HTs is when I'm doing a four color print of something, I'll have one roll of the main color and the three accent color rolls loaded in the AMS, then a second roll of the main color in one HT ready for an automatic refill, and the second HT is usually drying a roll of whatever color is lowest. An HT would be a good birthday or Christmas addition to his setup. The more useful the print, the more likely it is to require a heavy-duty filament that needs the HT's expanded temperature range, like nylons and such. |

Are there filaments that are good for building useful things that don't require the ams ht? The AMS HT doesn't need to be right away, it's just a good addition. For all the reasons listed above as well as for the X2D specifically. The AMS 2 Pro will take care of 4 color changes on the main nozzle, but the addition of the AMS HT will allow the next level stuff like using PETG in the aux nozzle for easy release support of PLA prints. The opposite is also true when you decide to print PETG and can use PLA as an easy release support. Yes a smaller nozzle slows down print speed. The dual nozzle of the X2D is limited in what it can handle since it's not a direct drive, but for PLA/PETG it is fine for an additional color feed. It's best role though is for a support filament. Nothing is going to require the AMS HT until you start printing with more of the engineering filaments. But having one on the second nozzle of the X2D is very convenient compared to running a spool manually out in the open on the external spool holder. |

Guess I'll get the chance now.

Well, I guess I'm in. I ordered the X2D/AMS combo, 13kg of assorted filaments (1 spool of black abs, 1 of tpu 95a, 1 pla+, and petg and pla in a few colors), the engineering build plate, the cool/super tack build plate and a spare spool because a lot of the colors were only in stock as refills. I figure printing a few spools from petg will be good early projects. I'll end up with the ams ht at some point but it wasn't in the budget for now. |

Anybody having issues with Bambu Studio's latest version, 2.7.1.57? Got a new Mac Mini last week. OS Tahoe 26.5. Studio opens but it's a full 10-15 seconds before I can access the different menu items. And when it does open and I try to send the file to the printer I'll get the message "retrieving printer information, please try again later". I'll check the device tab and it doesn't show the printer online. It was when it was when I sliced it before sending it to the printer. I'll select the printer again and get the same message. After about a dozen attempts, it will finally send the file to the printer. Then if I go back to the preview menu, nothing is there. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Studio twice now. Running in LAN mode. I haven't checked to see if this happens when connected via WIFI but I don't think that's the problem. Bambu Studio is the only software that is acting up. I thinking it's a computer issue, not the software. Studio runs just fine on my older Mac, running the Catalina OS. This is pissing me off. |

Found this on github; Known Issue: Startup lag on macOS 26.5 and later Some users running macOS 26.5 or 26.5.1 may experience UI lag and steadily increasing memory usage after launching Bambu Studio. In some cases, this can lead to application crashes. The issue appears to be related to the initialization of the built-in WebView and is currently under investigation. See #11004 / #10968 for details. Temporary workarounds Minimize and then restore/maximize the Bambu Studio window after launch using the window buttons in the top left. Open any subpage, such as Preferences. Roll back to Bambu Studio 2.6.0 Public Release . We are actively working on a fix and will release it as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience. ----------- I installed 2.6.0 and it crashes too. Grrrrrr. |

Bamboo store had a $10 coupon for signing up for emails, so I got one for $119. It will go up top & connect to the left side nozzle. I put a 70C single spool dryer on the left side of the H2D for the tpu bypass. I'm putting an external supply on the AMS 2 Pro, it will reduce the H2D power draw by up to 80 watts when drying. |
|
I'm not seeing anything in the sale that I'll bite on. The TPU "driver" thing is out of stock and the filament switcher thing isn't available for the H2D. I may swing by the local store that sells BB stuff next week to see what they have. Probably a good thing, I need to replace a NAS HDD that is going to be $, not to mention some medical shit that is going to be $$$$$. Got to love how docs wait months to bill you, guess cash flow doesn't exist in their world. Cheers all! |

H2D in lan only + developer mode, both Studio & Orca can see the printer after entering IP & code. Both can report temps, sync AMS, etc. The problem is I cannot send a print job from either Studio or Orca. Orca just crashes, either freezes or disappears. Studio either hangs or returns error -4030. Running windows 11, network set to private. I have to put the sliced plate on a USB & do the sneaker net thing. Anyone got suggestions? |

A question about the printer log files on the H2 series, how can you reduce the log file size? I could not see any menu option for purging older log entries or filtering the log content. My machine is less than a week old and the log file was > 480MB. It's mainly an issue because you can't open a new support ticket without uploading the log file via their web site. It took 3 tries before it was successful. The upload rate was only about 5Mb. |

TPU required the most changeover time when I first bought the H2D, so the first thing I changed was adding the 4-1 adapter to the right nozzle, this lets you manually feed in TPU to bypass the buffer without moving any PTFE tubes around. (not my picture, just grabbed it off MW) https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/397309/Screenshot_2026-06-17_085022-3780537.jpg The 4-1 was the biggest "upgrade" to printing TPU, but still required you to manually feed the filament for a decent distance. With the TPU Feed Assist, I only manually feed the filament ~6" or so, then it does the rest. Admittedly, this is a solution for being lazy and not much else, at least for me. I've never had an issue with the extruder motor in the head being unable to pull TPU directly from the spool, which I believe is the stated purpose of the feed assist. It likely helps that I store my TPU in cereal containers with Obsessed's designed spool holders, so they're riding on ball bearings and turn easily. The feed assist will also unload the filament too, so you can hit the cutter, then the reverse button on the feed assist and it will pull the filament back. Currently I have to crack the lid on the cereal box and roll the spool back, it's the only time I need to open the container after drying the spool and putting it in the box....so I've been looking for a solution for that. This is what my setup looks like currently. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/397309/unnamed-3755571.jpg I'm not sure that I'd classify it as worth the money, or a waste of money.....if it cost much more than it does I doubt I'd buy it again though. Side note, I have used it to feed PA6-CF, which can't go in an AMS and it worked the same way. I think I was the first to post that. I printed a custom curved one. The straight 4 in 1 rarely, but sometimes jams so I went with a printed curved version and it's been flawless. |

The AMS HT showed up today. Once attached, there was a message that it's firmware needed an update. I didn't see a download location, so put the system back on the cloud til the update got completed. It's easy to find the firmware download for the printer but I could not find the same for AMS units. Attached File |

Got the TPU Feed Assist kit in today. Printed up an alternative version of the housing that included two color buttons. It's on Makerworld here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2635133-tpu-feed-assist-modern-casing?from=search#profileId-2910508 Attached File (ended up removing the clear "dust cover" so I could see the gear spin) I did have to add washers under the switch mounting points. Either the design was off or the buttons changed a bit because there would have been no button travel if I had not added a washer under the board at each screw down point. Attached File Dug out an unused spool of natural PCTG to print the clear bits. Once together & installed, it seems to work OK. |
