| So I'm some what new to ham. I have my technician and I just got a Yaesu ft-857d. I want to be able to bring it between my home, RV, UTV and Truck. I'm looking at everything needed in a pelicane box 1520 or if needed a im2620. I want included in the box a small gel 12 volt battery like an odyssey for off grid use, an AC power supply to charge the battery and run the radio when on grid, HF tuner and the radio. Suggestions? Am I missing anything? |

Bump as this is in my wheelhouse. This pic/diagram is what I'm envisioning for my portable solar powered go-box. http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/jad612s/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsnnukuron.jpg I've tweaked it a bit since then but haven't updated my diagram since then. Pretend I'm an idiot (won't be hard), other than radio, I need more info. What type of battery? What is powerfilm? What is between powerfilm and battery? |

I attempted a search before hand but come up with nothing. These are very helpful. Thanks again. |

Powerfilm is a solar panel Ki0bk is a solar charger controller which acts as kind of a battery tender. It limits the charging flow of that solar panel so as not to overcharge or fry your battery. Search ki0bk on Internet and you'll find his website where he sells various ham radio items. Battery is something I'm still researching. Haven't chosen one yet. You'll have to research more on your needs/intended setup. Radio is at your discretion, like your battery. Good luck |
