Cleaning the garage today to make room for our second deep freezer

The existing smaller chest freezer I’ll go to a back section of the garage for long term storage. New stand up 20.6 will be used for day to day and shorter term.

Mostly bought so we can buy meats and stuff when there are sales. 2 growing boys are not cheap to feed

took down low hanging trees that would have been dicey with snow and ice on em. Turned them into firewood. The old adage that firewood keeps you warm three times (when you cut it, when you split it, and when you burn it) definitely applied today. Going to be good and sore tomorrow, but the good of kind of sore that comes with a job well done. Also have a few pounds of cajun jerky curing

I just said to heck with it and ordered two SKS from buds gun shop.  $400 each.  I had one years ago and wish i never sold it.  Always saw them for $500 plus but never jumped.  Figured now was the time to grab a couple to stash away esp considering they are NY legal for now.

Finally made a space in the pole building for a 5.5' X 4' X 18" flammable liquid storage locker I bought this summer.  Been sitting outside for the last 5 months, it'll hold about 40 gals of gas & diesel plus another 8-10 1 gal cans of tru-fuel and all my aerosol stuff.  I bought two for $125.00 the second is only 4' high, might use it for propane bottles over at the house.

My new toy from buds recent surplus sks sale.  I think it cleaned up pretty nice for $400.  I love how the stock turned out after a light sand and coating of boiled linseed oil.  Also stocked up on a bit more 7.62x39.  I wonder if ammo prices will ever go back down?

Bought a Rossi lever action .22 rifle. It’s the Rio Bravo model. Nothing special but I’ve wanted a lever action .22 for awhile and it was cheap. Seems to shoot fine. It’s the only .22 rifle I currently own. Not sure it’s really a survival prep….but I’ll call it that.

Went to a farm store and found 2.5 gallon jugs of Rotella T6 5W40. It’s really hard to find right now. They had it for $57.99 per 2.5 gallon jug. I bought two. As soon as I got to my vehicle, I did the online form for the rebate. Should get $22.50 back per 2.5 gallon jug so paid about $14.20 per gallon. Not bad…..especially considering it’s tough to find now and oil prices are skyrocketing. I use it in my tractor and my power sports equipment. Probably have a couple years worth now.

Had snow predicted anywhere from 5-20 inches with up to 50mph winds.

Did the standard top off all vehicles, make sure generator was working, had my wife start the generator and go through the process to connect to the house. I had to work about fifteen miles away, so I packed an overnight bag and two days of food, threw in a square point shovel and an HT.

Got a good snow that hit quickly and turned to sleet afterwards few hours. Not nearly as bad as predicted.

Found a failure on my part. An extra vehicle that we don’t drive often has a battery that needs replacing and was found during storm preps. So, my alternate storm vehicle was OOS.

Ordered oil filters for every piece of equipment and vehicle I own.  I now have 2 years worth of filters on hand.

Also ordered 500 rounds of 9mm ball ammo.  Not really a survival prep necessarily but prices are finally starting to come down a little and I'd like to have more practice ammo.  Have plenty of 5.56/.223

Topped off all the vehicle gas tanks.  Couple gas stations in town have jumped in price but there were still a couple gas stations at $3.39.  Topped off a 5 gallon NATO can and mixed up a gallon of 2 cycle oil/gas mix.  Also filled a few spare MFC cans I rarely use.  I'm going on a guys ATV/UTV trip in April and I expect to use a fair amount of gas on the trip.  I'm sure gas will be even more expensive by then so I topped these off to use for the trip.

Also topped off my tractor's diesel fuel tank and then filled that can up with off road diesel.

Over $100 in gas and diesel.

bought the kids Freeze Dried ice cream sandwiches this weekend and they LOVED them. decided we should have a "Freeze Dried Feast" to see what other stuff we like that's prepped like that. Debating actually buying a freeze dryer, which would let me prep like crazy

also got my 6 year old son into more stuff about prepping/survival/outdoors. He wears a watch and compass all day every day, can orient maps to cardinal directions, and is helping me make some ferro rod holding watch straps for our trips

topped of the firewood in the basement.  Trying to keep two weeks worth in the house should we need to hunker down.  I don't mind tossing on some tyvek to fire up the generator to cool down the freezer/ fridge, top off the pressure and storage tanks, and charge some batteries but I wouldn't want to be hauling in firewood should particles be falling from the sky.

I am not super worried about it but it cant hurt to have things in order.  Gonna burn the firewood anyways so trying to keep it topped off while its still cold out.

Next to do:  organize and clean my man cave/ gear room while the weather is still crappy.

Have you calculated the calories in there? That isn't a few months of food for a family.

That said, I like your pantry size and organization. Just do you and yours a favor and tally up how much food is really in there. Thats maybe 3-4 weeks for three adults if you're careful.
