Maybe they're sending in troops to help us rebuild or they're here to help us fight against an invading army. Probably not though. |

Next week's episode confused me a bit. I have a hard time believing that the Chinese have somehow crossed our borders. This aside, the power struggle between the mayor and the towns people during tonight's episode seemed totally approrpriate. With the breakdown of society, it seems that such strains regarding how people are governed would make day to day living very difficult. I am surprised that aside from assembling a security force, that they haven't already started sending out scouting parties for food and other necessities. |
So Jerico finally wised up to the fact that they need a militia.  Question: In a Jericho type situation when is it appropriate to "formally" form a local militia? Of course every instance would be different, but I think Jericho waited way to long. For example, NO went to hell in only a matter of days and they knew help was coming. |
| PRC is the only country besides Russia with the technical capability and the political disposition to detonate an airburst nuke to send out an EMP to disable electronics. Therefore, it is a Chinese invasion, not an aid mission. The initial attack could have been funded and supplied by PRC and implemented by Al Qaeda - PRC supplied the warheads and engineering knowhow, Al Qaeda brough them in and placed them in the cities that were struck. |

Tonight's episode was my first viewing of Jericho. I have read through just a couple posts and understand that an EMP is what caused some havoc. My question if there was an EMP, how did the duece and a half and the humvees make it to the bridge? Did they explain that already. thanks, Ron |
No one really know the effect an EMP will have on cars. Cars are kinda faraday cages themselves, so they could survive. |

Some observations.........(My apologies, it seems the show is losing me somewhat....) Hawkins has a supressed bolt gun. Why do we think he was hiding to use it, and not out in front like everyone else ? How would he deploy it where he was without someone noticing ? They should have had sentry/checkpoints on the main roads a long time ago. I find it hard to believe they would not have done it weeks ago. Emily Sullivan's father saved the day by providing a great cross fire situation. That way if a fire fight did occur, they could all be in danger equally. Great idea. If the mayor, Eric, Jake, and/or Hawkins are so smart, why are the not protecting their only medicinal supplies of alcohol in town ? Hell, Eric Green tried to locked up, or tried to lock up, the explosives and guns. I guess they can make there own alcohol ? It appears to me they are not trying to conserve anything. With a 4 hour head start, why not set up a "L" shape ambush with interlocking fields of fire and decimate the Mercs when they return. That saves the bridge and gets them more guns and ammo. |
I'd say this is exactly what happened, with a little help from the Rooskies for good measure. |
I agree. If China was coming for an aid mission, they could have put out something more detailed. China could have had someone fluent in English make something that explains what happened, not just some ambiguous flier. |
There seemed to be more than a few SBS's out there, strange item for a small town LE gun arsenal? And if they were privately owned, strange to see only SBSs and not more AWs?

I can't believe they got stuck on blowing the bridge. They had the right stuff for mining the road and setting up platter charges and 55 gallon drum claymores on the side of the road. The mercenaries never would have had a chance. The townspeople never even needed the to threaten the bridge. "Got demo?" They could have just detonated a daisy chain of several large charges on the side of the road and the mercs would have been turned to goo inside. Or punchy enough to shoot while they are rolling around on the ground. And I caught several of the rifles did not have sights. |
| When the mercs first shot up the cars that blocked the road, the mercs expended alot of ammo, I think if this had been a true SHtF scenario they would've wasted the ammo because most likely the mercs wouldn't know when they will get resupplied. But then it is only a TV movie and the non-firearms oriented viewer was really impressed. |
What that means is that it could quite conceiveably disable those optical sights that run on batteries & laser range finders. Of course the non-battery powered equipment would not be affected such as ACOGs. |
| Blowing bridge was overkill but its sheeple. How many people besides Jake/Hawkins would know about an L ambush? Or using dynamite in an ambush? not many even some older vets may not have any idea depending on what they did in service. This episode did move slow for me but with any show once characters and plot and actors get into a groove with each other, it has hope yet. I will be watching. |
Do you really expect the average mid-west town to go from normal living to survival experts instantly? It would be difficult for anyone who has never experienced or even thought of such a scenario to adjust quickly. The point of the show is that they DON'T know what they are doing. Some of them have better ideas than others (Hawkins, Jake), but as a whole, they are learning as time goes on. Hell, Jake is about to train the town militia LITERALLY by the book. If it turned into Fortress Jericho from episode one, it wouldn't make for a very interesting show. I am getting a little tired of the "I'm in love with someone else!" and "I was supposed to get married!" nonsense though... as soon as the acoustic guitar soundtrack starts, I know it's time to fast forward. You have to admit, the last two episodes have been far better then any before them. This show is starting to come together, hopefully next week we'll hear someone shout "Wolverines!" after the Chinese show up. |

Who did Jake and the forming militia get those cases of ammunition from? My wife says it was probably me  They said the guy still had a basement full. It looked like com-bloc surplus. Seriously, what was the deal with the wedding-dream scenes? Even my wife wanted to walk out of the room

They should have killed all of the Ravenwood guys the first time on the bridge. They so much as told them that they were going to be trouble for them in the future. While they were gathering their explosives and things they did mention that they had other roads blocked and check points set up. Is it me or does Hawkins rifle look like a Savage with a Choate stock? Why can T.V. never get the scope reticles to look right? I was really glad to see that they didn't portray the use of a suppressor in a bad light though they did get how they sound wrong. |

I agree that the show is getting a bit too soap-opera like, but it is serving one very important purpose. Every one of us who watch this show and critique the situations are benefitting by this pre-tactical review. Each comment that someone makes on what should have done better/differently, helps others by spreading the information. The basic benefit: it is getting us better prepared for SHTF by thinking through various scenarios. Side benefit is that our wives/families are picking up little bits and pieces of info that should help us when the SHTF. Kind of like an after action review but before the action begins. My opinion about the bridge, they had all the elements for a very nice fougasse trap. I would have sent out snipers at half mile intervals up the road to hit tires and spread the incoming forces out (hit two tires and lose one vehicle). Then the remaining incoming force could have been hit with a combination of an L-ambush with the 55 gal drums of diesel being exploded by charges underneath to spray the flaming fuel over the road. Decimation at its best. Then Jericho could have increased it's weapons cache by picking over the remains. Even a motley crew of farmers can set up a devastating defense if they think about it. Then again, homemade napalm ambushes are probably not CBS primetime material, LOL. |
Ron, It didn't knock out ALL power to the car--just the ignition system. If you remember the windows (and radio, I think) still worked. It is still very up in the air tho |

This episode was the most P.C. garbage I have been aware of. Bunch of 'farmers' without scopes on their rifles, most had shotguns, one guy w/ an AR. Hell, I think I saw only one pistol. Ridiculous! I am not even going to get into the shooting scene. This series is a bad car wreck that has us 'rubber-necking'. |

The show is not very ralistic as already mentioned. The town initially sent out scouts in several directions. They went by car and truck. If they have gas for cars, then they have gas for aircraft. Plus, aircraft engines are ancient technology compared to computer controlled car engines. Basically, if you can get a tractor to run, you can get an aircraft engine to run. Damn near every small town has a small airport. You can learn far more from the air than you can from the ground. This supposedly happens in the future. How come no one has a clue about setting up I.E.D.s? It isn't like no one has ever heard of them, or what they are used for. They are portraying the mayor as the top authorty. I believe a county sheriff would out rank him, and he has constitutional authority, where a mayor doesn't. |

1) Those HMMWVs and H1s have EMI filters built into the electrical system. They have a much better chance of surviving an EMP pulse than a regular vehicle. I work at the plant that makes HMMWVs and used to make the H1s. I checked on it and sure enough, there is a module right next to the computer box that acts a filter during EM emissions. It didn't really surprise me because they used to run the H1s down the same like as the HMMWVs. Many components are shared across the lines. 2) What is up with all these laser sights? This is the second episode where they have played a major role in a scene. Man, everyone and their brother has them. Is this the uber-tactial device of the year? I just got my EOTech and thought I was set. Am I missing out on something I should have for my survial preps? Maybe I should go out and buy a case of laser pointers. Wouldn't that accomplish the same results? |
