[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Jericho - part III (Page 2 of 50)
No. You man a checkpoint with armed guards, but have no clear R.O.E.s? Either you kill the agressors, or you are inviting them back, and they will be bringing a much larger force. Otherwise, just pile your gunz and supplies in the street, and post a sign saying "take what you want, but pleeeze don't hurt us. Can't we just be friends?" |
If anyone threatens your life and gives you the chance to kill them. WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR? as soon as they started walking back to the trucks the 1st time they came i would of opened up on them. There were 3-4 guys the 1st time.I would of made their trucks rolling coffins. J |
Good point |
You could probably dig a couple nice fighting positions in 4 hours too. |
Have you noticed the lack of violence? This should be on HBO instead of CBS. Think Deadwood in modern day Kansas. |
|
Ok, the show is doing what it can on a liberal TV station. most of the people watching it are not into survival preparations. Most do not have the amount of ammunition or guns or food we have. Most will not comprehend the mercs are bad guys. new people who have just started watching the show will not know the past episodes and what has occured. Sheep watches show for the first time. Hey look at this crazy gun owners are shooting at the government trying to help them. see, I knew pelosi and feinstein were right we got to take all the guns, we send people to help them they will fight us. I view this show as a what if show for my family and to get them talking. I tell them where it is screwed up. Yes, if I knew bad guys were coming I would set up an ambush and would have taken out the first four, and then the other when they came. BUt this is TV and not the real world. I think if an event like this happened in real life it would occur much like the show. People would be shocked and confused. not having information they would keep hope the government would send people to help. You could not walk into the mayors office of a lot of towns and say we need to form a militia and lock down the town, you would have to be able to convince the mayor and authorities why. And syaing there are bad people out there just would not work. You would have to give them proof that it is needed. |
Whew, I was starting to worry about you guys. I would have set up a bottleneck on the road. Line the last 100 meters of the road with cars on each side loaded with explosives. When the convoy rolled up, close both ends, set charges, shoot the survivors... |
|
Yeah! We have a sympathetic Iraqi character now as well. The circle is complete. "Next week on LOST: Kansas, Sayid, I mean Dr. Acknad Feelgood will continue wooing Hot Blondie Chickie Snack while Spunky Formerly Gimpy Chick continues her awkward swooning for Tortured Secretive Hero Guy and Preggie Doc Mousy Wife plots her revenege on Big Boobie Bartender Slut and her Beardie Cheatin' Hubby. Oh yeah, the Semi-Evil Survivalists and Totally Evil Thug/Army Dropout Mercs drive to town again, and the world continues to end." |
He's not Iraqi, he's Indian. During the Rock River episode he was swearing in Hindi. |
Damn. Oh well. Maybe in a later episode. |
When they turned their backs I would have mowed them down. These guys are feral now and need to be extinguished. |
April Greene is a Nurse Practicioner if I am not mistaken. |
KNOWN rogue operators that slaughtered innocent folks I would have ambushed them and killed them all. Ravenwood drove right past the broken down cars. Could have had guys hidden in there, plus some deer hunters in sniper locations. Dropped all 4 of the 1s t group at once |
Hawkins has a Accuracy International rifle. It is either an AW or AE. Edit to add: It is a very highly respected, expensive rifle. |
My favorite is the guy with the Henry rifle (shown in the third picture above), but the follower is all the way down, indicating that it is not loaded. |

People people people! If Jericho writters *were* to do as you say, and drop all the romance threads and the wedding back stories and the cutesy little teenage romance between the rich girl and the poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and focus all of their attention to getting their SHTF scenarios correct. . .they’d have a viewing audience of about 5000 survivalists. . .and that’s it. That isn’t even a .1 share in the ratings. The show would have never made it on the air. Like it or not. . .networks know that they need to pull in as strong of a demographic as possible to make a show profitable, sell advertising time and connect for additional lead-ins for shows following Jericho. That means including plots and sub-plots that will make the grizzled survivalists turn up their noses to keep the show on the air. Complain all you want, decry all the wedding plot lines and the obvious technical errors of how their firing stances are all wrong. I admit that I’m constantly laughing at the behavior and town dynamics as a born and bread son of Kansas (Emporia represent!) It’s called a drama. . .not a documentary! The show has its rough spots, no denying it. But between this and "the simple life" or Law and Order: Crossing Guard Division. . .I'll take the show based on my interests rather then crap wrapped up in a pretty bow. |
The Sheriff died of stupidity in the premier episode. Even if he was alive - who out ranks who is entirely dependant on the state & local laws. Some observations. 1) Like you guys I would have set up an ambush, preferably with the dynamite with some kind of improvised claymores. Say in an 'abanonded' vehicle near the entrance to the bridge. 2) I would have setup at least 2 blockades, One of the far side of the bridge (where the contractors would have been ambushed, 3) and a secondary one on the near side. 4) Bunching up like that invited full-auto fire at close range. They should have been spread out more with the rifle guys to the sides to take advantage of their longer range. 5) Hawkins showed nice use of a supressed weapon I'm gonna have to get a can.6) Mild Rant: WTF is it with Hollywood obsession with 'lasers'? Do they not realize that illuminated reticles and red-dot sights have eliminated the need for the laser (and offer many more advantages)? |
Because he's not an idiot like the others are? He's using concealment and surprise while taking advantage of his rifle's capabilities
Maybe the townsfolk did notice him, all he needed to do was make sure Ravenwood didn't see him. If he wanted to make sure the townsfolk didn't see him - then all he had to do was hide his rifle case in the appropriate shooting spot, and when the flare goes up head to the bushes to relieve himself before the threat gets there. With all the activity I doubt many would have noticed he was missing. Well that's my take on it anyway. |

Correct. Even without the swearing, if you see a guy who looks like that with a British accent, it's generally safe to assume he is Indian. The Brits colonized India for a long time and there are a TON of Indians in England. Yes, I know that the London subway bombers were also British citizens and thus had accents, but the number of British Indians is much higher than the number of British Arab s. |
Why throw common sense out there and rain on this tinfoil parade? The show is FRICKIN' GREAT!!! It's not perfect. But it's about as perfect of a show that we're gonna see on network (or any other) TV. Maybe, just maybe some sheeple might learn something or desire to be more prepared. Who knows... maybe even a few of us might learn things we don't already know. I've been serious about preparedness for about 4 years now... I still have a LONG way to go in terms of knowledge and supplies. I eagerly await each new episode of this show and will continue to do so. Jake's pansy ways are starting to bug me. Hawkins does it right and I can respect him for that. Even with all of the drama and love-triangles... this show satisfies me greatly. P.S. My five kids and I use this as a bonding experience and it gets them asking questions. If/when such events occur on our soil, maybe they'll be just a little less freaked-out than they would have been due to this show. There are books out there regarding the stress that disasters cause kids. It's not insignificant. So I am grateful for this show as a way of introducing them to the realities of this crazy world. |

I think they are setting up Emily (the blonde hottie) to be the shows' first psychiatric casualty. She wasn't just have daydreams; she was hallucinating. I think the strain, added to her missing fiance', is going to unhinge her. I also saw a Winchester '73 in the bridge scene as well. This town is the most poorly armed group of rednecks I've ever seen. There could be a reason for the removal of the scopes from the rifles. At first I was wondering at the tech advisor for having the scopes removed , then I thought about how hard it is to shoot a scope at under 100 yards. Those rifles probably had 6-10 power scopes. Way too much for combat distances. Open sights would, in fact, be better. Am I the only one watching the "countdown" thing on innertube? Seems like somebody wants us to know about N warfare, it's effects, and how to deal with it. One more reason I'm nearly convinced the DHS and FEMA are at least preipherally involved in the production of this program. |
yea about tiime |
Not been reading the thread eh?
IIRC the networks have to show they serve the public good as part of their frequency licenses (to the stations). That is one reason why you see certain themes (i.e. Drug abuse or spouse abuse) worked into so many shows. They can do educational stuff along with the entertainment to satisfy their requirement to maintain their licenses. I'm sure the webisodes are part of that 'educational' aspect. |
There's also an M1 Garand in the first skirmish. You can see it just after the Ravenwood guy calls a cease fire. I actually didn't notice the carbine.
|
I would think since they lost a guy and got a look at the weapons the townspeople are armed with, they would be back soon.like that night.I would imagine there is another point to cross the river and come up from another direction. Real stupid to let them live/get away. Then again you have the wannabe mayor saying let them go to another town (to rape and pillage?). I watch it,but it doesn't blow my skirt up. |
Most hunters would have a 3x9 or 2x7 power scope if they don't have a straight 4 power. They're fine when set at their lowest power setting. |
You would be suprised what small towns have. The town I live in has about 5000 people, and 9 officers. Every car has an AR and a shotgun (Mossburg I think). And 2 or 3 SBS's Our neighboring town has about 2000 people. All of there police cars have AR's in the trunk, and Benelli M1's up front. They even have nightvision goggles. Jeremy |
TV is a VISUAL medium. lasers are a great way for the producers to tell the audience that there is a gun pointing at someone. As opposed to every other shot made in that episode where the guns were, apparently, not aimed at anyone at all. |
|
Some of you guys are acting so retarded and wound around that axle you dont even notice how much you are actually, albeit inadvertantly, getting from this show. Maybe you arent seeing a lot of what you would do, or one should do. Thats making you think about what you would or wouldnt do, or should and shouldnt do in the same or similar situations. Hello!? McFly!? Keep in mind thats its a heart still a tv show. But you are still learning from it whether you hardheads want to or not (even if it serves mothing more than to make you mentally re-inforce things you already know). Sheesh.
|
That's the way I've been looking at it. Keeps you thinking on how to prepare and do things better in the event... |
+1 I thought the bridge scenes were great. It really got me thinking about what I would do in such a situation and how other people would react. The first showdown on the bridge reminded me of war stories I've read where troops facing a superior force are too scared to even shoot at the enemy. We here on ARFCOM might be prepared for a shootout, but not everyone is. The townspeople simply took cover, instead of opening up. I expected some townspeople to die because of it... I could imagine myself on that bridge with my gear and Level IV armor using an engine block for cover while the other townspeople had no armor and were not using the best parts of the vehicles for cover. Some excellent discussion here on several possible courses of action to defend the bridge. I'd thought of the L-shaped ambush and fighting positions myself... but missed the obvious mining of the roadway/vehicles. I'm thinking about setting up the scenario in TACOPS to wargame a few of the options. |
+1 Something else CBS may not realize (I hope) is that this last episode just sent a good RKBA message to sheeple, though I wish Jericho had been armed with at least mostly M1s if not EBRs. |
+1 Looks to be about two dozen ravenwood guys. Up against a town of 5,000, they don't stand a chance. If I was the ravenwood commander, simply come back at night and you would own the defenders given every man has a NOD on his weapon. How SHOULD jake set up the security force. From the show they are short on semi's and military weapons. What to you outfit the squads with? Standardize on one or two shotgun models and the same for bolt action rifle models in whatever caliber the town has the most of. Gives them decent very short range firepower and long range precision but volume of fire is severly lacking. Whatever military style weapons they have should be given to the reaction force. |
Maybe I'm too focused on realism here, but... There's not a chance in hell the PRC gives al-queda nukes. This is the same country that banned all Arabs from its transport systems following 9/11, and they've done battle with Islamic extremists in their west. I believe this is going to be 'humanitarian'. One, yes, this is CBS. Two, China has no history of aggressive expansionism. I can't consider their quest for Honk Kong or Taiwan as imperialist. They do have a long history of defensive warfare. For all the references I've read to the show taking place in 2009, therefore allowing a little more writing freedom, I disagree. There's more evidence that the show is set in present day (Hawkins '07 expiration on his plate, the '06 date on whats her names Amex) then '09. on a final note, I don't think I've posted in this forum yet, but I'd like to say keep up the good work. I read a few Jericho forums, and this one is easily the sanest & most cogent. I've tried to reference it on other websites for people who have been posting the most insanely idiotic analysis of this show possible. |
Don't really think they have much choice in terms of what to arm them with. You gotta go to the party with what you have. Hard to standardize when you have maybe a handful of each type of weapon or model. You just gotta make sure that they know how to use what they got. The real key is not to concentrate on the weapons, but to concentrate on the tactics and getting them to work in squads and teams. Make sure each team has a good mix of weapon types - but perhaps each squad or team could minimize the number of calibers it has to deal with. ie one squad with 12 ga and .270's the next squad with 20 ga and 308's, etc. But I think the focus needs to be on tactics and how to properly defend what is basically and open town with many access points with limited manpower/firepower resources. Realistically, a good commo system would be in order here. For reference (I posted this in the last thread but am putting this bigger version here): ![]() Looks to be at least 7 roads in to town (not sure which one the bridge is on) |

I'm gonna have to get a can.

Keep in mind thats its a heart still a tv show. But you are still learning from it whether you hardheads want to or not (even if it serves mothing more than to make you mentally re-inforce things you already know). Sheesh.
