Bolt gun, extremely accurate for shooting the McQueens.

Rest of the spec's then.....

As it's my big 50 tomorrow I have decided to treat myself to a Anglo Custom Rifle 6.5x47 Surgeon 26" box magazine fed tack driver. Not decided on a stock yet but am sourcing a CG Mod 22 Trigger from the USA for it. I'll let you know the full spec when I've decided on it.

Gun sounds a good'un...

AICS or McMillan A5 would finish it off nicely...

I've got a CG mod 22 (with top safety)
It did drop straight into an AICS with no mods, but I 'm not feeling the love for this - its with Bradders for a right good tweaking.

I've had a factory Remington trigger (not Xmark pro) tweaked by Riflecraft in the past - now that was sweet

Given my choice again - I'd go for a tuned Rem factory trigger

well apparently I bought a gun yesterday by accident oh well cant have enough guns
Link Posted: 12/24/2010 8:07:37 AM EST

Nice, one of the guys in our club has a Surgeon in 6.5x47 and it shoots beautifully.

I have every faith in Anglo Custom Gavin having observed his work.
In fact I was there last weekend where we took my rifle and rechambered it.
That's a Surgeon too, in a McMillan A5 adjustable with Border 5r, Badger bottom metal and CG.
It's now been rechambered in .260AI and im looking forward to giving it a whirl once the fireforming's done

Mark,

We've got a 400m shoot on teh 25th Jan at Hythe if it's ready by then. IM me if you're interested.

Never had a problem with my trigger...

I have a 6.5x47 built on a Surgeon action, Border barrel, CG trigger in a folding AICS built by Baldie Dave... It's a fantastic gun, if not a little boring as all the boolits seem to go through the same hole...
Link Posted: 12/24/2010 11:55:00 AM EST
Nothing wrong with the trigger, it just dont float my boat.
Which is strange, as I've got a CG trigger for a Tikka 595 and think its brilliant

Happy Birthday JMH!!

All the best.

Look forward to seeing piccies of your new gun.
Link Posted: 12/24/2010 8:58:13 PM EST
Yeah happy birthday John, I'm sure the new rifle will be fine even with that trigger. I still reckon my tuned rem trigger takes a shit load of beating though. All the best, Dave

Rifles now back - trigger is much improved. It turns out that the safety was rubbing against the AICS chassis. So much for the 'drop-into AICS' claim.

I had a rubbing issue between the bolt release and trigger guard with my Remmy and CG trigger. The Dremel won..

Now that Lapua are going to make .260 Remington brass.

.260 Remington

Do I stick with the intention of a 6.5x47 or go for a .260?

A5 for me

Having seen and handled that A5 of yours, I would plump for the A5 too. And a lovely colour scheme too.

Link Posted: 1/3/2011 10:55:21 AM EST
I would go with the .260.

6.5x47 brass is only available from Lapua and is expensive, whereas .260 brass is made by Remington, Federal, Norma, Nosler and now Lapua of course, plus it can be easily formed from .308 Win, 7mm-08 or .243 Win. The .260 runs at a lower pressure than the 6.5x47 and will handle the 139-142gr bullets.

Happy new year

Being the man you are I'm sure you've already read this....

6.5mm shootout

Oh yes, problem is I already have a set of Redding and Wilson .260 Dies, the thing that was putting me off .260 was the Brass but that looks like it may be about to sort itself out. So what to do?

Its down to the pro's and con's of small primer vs large primer as far as I can see.

Wasn't it someone (a girl) using your .260 that beat you at 1000 yards.

I agree on that... The .308 small primer pocket brass that Lapua make is apparently supposed to give better ES & SD figures over the large pocket but I reckon any difference in performance would be so small & would not show up on target until you get out to 1000yds +

If you have serviceable reloading bits for .260 I'd go with that....
