Quoted: I have a question about protocol.
This is my first gun show since getting my CHL. I would like to take my carry gun to test fit holsters and just in case something for it catches my eye. I'd also rather not have to explain to everyone that the gun I'm carrying around isn't for sale.
So what do I do?
Can I go into Reliant hall and unload in the bathroom and carry my magazine(s) in my pocket? How do I present it to the officer if I've been carrying it concealed? How do I carry it around the show?
Thanks,
Sauce

You'll need to bring in that weapon UNLOADED with no ammo on your person. A table at the entrance will require you to have the police officer place a tie-wrap through the barrel to ensure that the weapon cannot fire. Bummer but basically you'll have to be "unarmed" (ammo) when walking into and out of the show itself.
After that, if you're concerned about being hassled with dealers trying to buy it, just keep it hidden somehow.
Now - HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING - you
could carry CCW into the hall but before you enter the show eject your loaded magazine/clear chamber, hide mag in a backpack or such, then walk in and have the weapon checked. The officer will ask if you have any ammo, to which you COULD reply "no."
Hypothetically, I COULD have done that myself many times....
