Great news guys.  We finally got the proper insurance coverage for the club to carry ammo at the Reliant Center HGCA show.  Been trying to get this done for years.

This addition of ammo should make this the very best show in Houston.

FYI - keep in mind that the January HGCA mailings still say "no ammo" but that's because of the printing date.

AMMO will be at the January show.

Might be my first show.

Since Ammo is cool, I'll have a bit of inventory....

I've already gotten one or two volunteers to help....(bet they'll want beer!)

Lemme know

Yes you can. Number to call for tables is 409-935-3292. You'll like it. Great show. Has the feel of Dallas Market Hall but different somehow. Not better, (how could it be better than Market Hall?) just different.
Ammo will be factory loaded only--no reloaded ammo allowed (due to insurance requirements I suppose). Collector ammo will be ok too.

Robbie--you going?

I have a question about protocol.

This is my first gun show since getting my CHL.  I would like to take my carry gun to test fit holsters and just in case something for it catches my eye.  I'd also rather not have to explain to everyone that the gun I'm carrying around isn't for sale.

So what do I do?

Can I go into Reliant hall and unload in the bathroom and carry my magazine(s) in my pocket?  How do I present it to the officer if I've been carrying it concealed?  How do I carry it around the show?

Thanks,

Sauce

You'll need to bring in that weapon UNLOADED with no ammo on your person.  A table at the entrance will require you to have the police officer place a tie-wrap through the barrel to ensure that the weapon cannot fire.   Bummer but basically you'll have to be "unarmed" (ammo) when walking into and out of the show itself.

After that, if you're concerned about being hassled with dealers trying to buy it, just keep it hidden somehow.

Now - HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING - you could carry CCW into the hall but before you enter the show eject your loaded magazine/clear chamber, hide mag in a backpack or such, then walk in and have the weapon checked.  The officer will ask if you have any ammo, to which you COULD reply "no."

Hypothetically, I COULD have done that myself many times....

That's what I figured.  I'm thinking the most comfortable and convenient way to carry it around the show would be to carry it in my usual holster, which would make it concealed.  But I don't want to freak the officer out by drawing it from a holster.  I also don't want to get in trouble for carrying past the 30.06 sign even though its empty.  So, as a practical matter, do I have to come up with some other way of carrying it around?

These cops are cool.  Never ever had any problem drawing an empty from my CCW holster.

So I should be able to walk up, uncover and present to officer, have him/her tie it, reholster and cover up again?

That would fit with my past experienceswith officers attitudes when tying guns on the way in.  I imagine I'll double check with the officer before covering up again.

Thanks,

Yes, as long as the weapon is empty at that time.  No problem.
