...any of you live there? How you like it? I am just trying to do a little research. There is a company down there that I might could work for. I just got a new job here though that has a decent feel for a bit of job security, at least as much as one could expect in the aerospace design field. They are paying better rates down there, but only 6 mo to 1 yr contract.

So anyway, tell me what you know about Albuquerque, please.

Personally I think ABQ's climate is awesome, and the Sandias are very handy to the city.  Skiing, hiking, lots of outdoor stuff.  Get a 4 wheel drive and get away to the countryside now and then.  Good food to be had.  Not hugely populous like the big cities with their traffic and prevalent crime.  NM does have an income tax.  NM is pretty liberal in the populated areas, like ABQ and Santa Fe and Taos.   The property values around those areas can be pretty high as well.  Like all cities ABQ has its poor areas, too, but overall I could spend six months to a year (or more) there.

Of course, I live in Houston, now.    I only visit NM about once a year nowadays...

I noticed the 10 day forecast showed highs in lower to mid 60's and lows a little above freezing. Recreationally speaking, that sounds a good bit like where I'm at. Liberals, I know of. I am in the Seattle area now.

Not sure if I want to pay state income tax, but the difference in income might make it worth my while. I sure could use getting away from traffic jams.

I'm not sure if I'm trying to talk myself into or out of inquiring about this job possibility further. Any fellow arfcommers live in or around the city?

Im sending you an IM.  Let me know if you get it.  Ive lived here since 1996 and really like it.  Two of my cousins have moved here recently from Texas.

Hmmn, I guess there are more ARFCommers in TX and AZ than NM!  Well, there's one drawback to Albuquerque.

That was a lot easier than typing it myself. I feel the same way Alpine does about Abq. I work in the Aerospace industry in Arizona, if you don't mind the heat there are a few good aerospace firms in the Phoenix area. Boeing, Honeywell, BF Goodrich, Lockheed, General Dynamics and even more small players like Orbital.

With that said, I would move back to Abq if it involved a good career move. I lived there from '89 to '94.

If you’re thinking of buying a house, STAY THE F**K OUT OF BERNALILLO COUNTY.   It has
become a government run amuck, although the Albuquerque City Govt eclipses their stupidity by a
wide margin.   Also keep in mind the city is constantly expanding it’s boundaries. heshrubbery overhanging the curb (they aren’t kidding).   The city bigwigs immensely enjoy flexing their muscle by destroying average citizens and businesses.   The local populace are 99.9% dumb sheep who don’t stand up for their rights or speak out against abuses.   This city is an intellectual wasteland, the high schools only graduate about 65% of their students, and you’ll deal with these idiots on almost a daily basis.

The A.P.D. murders almost as many people as the criminals.  They are a bigger threat to your life and liberty than the criminals.  The jack-booted thug mentality has taken firm hold within the department.   Lots of high crime areas to avoid.   If you’re a crime victim in the city, expect bystanders to walk past you while you bleed to death on the sidewalk.   I’m an ex cop, and when I first moved here, I used to get involved, stopping crimes I witnessed.   No more.  Cannot trust the cops to do the right thing or hestatement, they took the statement over to the cuffed perp, read it to him , them pointed me out for him.   This scum dealt drugs and illegal weapons big time and knew where I lived.

The DWI problem is waaaaaay out of control and everyone knows it.   2-3 ENTIRE FAMILIES  are
wiped out each year, hundreds more killed, and most of the drunks get off with a slap on the wrist or
less.    Up to a few years ago, DWI was a misdemeanor, and the record holder had 38 arrests for
DWI, had killed 6 people with his cars,  had served less than 2 months total in jail, and still had a valid driver’s license.   The legislators aren’t going to change this, they are some of the worst offenders.   Over half the drivers on the road have NO insurance at all, and you’re insurance rates will reflect this.

On the positive side, NM is the most scenic state I’ve lived in, and I’ve traveled the CONUS.    I
moved south of ABQ, away from the city BS, and the rural areas are so much nicer, quieter, friendly,
etc.   The weather is fantastic, a low latitude and high elevation give it a very mild climate, seldom
experience harsh weather.  And the sunsets are often spectacular.

Please dont take advice from this obviously unstable new member (GAU5-A-A).

The Albuquerque Police Department is one of the most professional in the country.  That is extremely offensive to say they "murder" people.  When an officer has to take someones life in the line of duty to protect their own or anothers life it is the last thing they want.  It negatively impacts them and their family in many ways.

How about some praise for people who risk their lives to make life safer for you and yours.  Think of how many wives and children each year lose their police husbands and fathers while on the job.

By the way as far as rights, specifically gun rights, in Albuquerque there are two people from Albuquerque running for the NRA board of directors.  This is the most gunowner friendly City/County I have ever lived in.  Most of the Albuquerque Police Department are gun enthusiasts and NRA supporters.

And to agree with you, DUI is a huge problem!!!

Hey Gaunt, How are you doing, old buddy, old pal. I see from your user ID that you finally took my advice and joined Alcoholics Anon. Good Job. I hope that you got all those Driving while intoxicated charges cleared up.
Everyone here in the neighborhood sure were glad when you packed up and moved out in the middle of the night after  Sheriff White came and served you with the foreclosure papers on your house. The new owners have really done wonders fixing up your old trashed out house and it sure is nice to live next door to someone who doesn't have the SWAT team invading every weekend.
Well, gotta run but I will tell all the neighbors that I ran into you on the internet and we will all keep you in our prayers and pray and hope that you never ever have reason to return to good old Albuquerque.

P.S.  Remember Larry McDonald from a couple houses down?  Well, he dated your wife after you slithered off into the night and now they are expecting their first child any day now. I gotta say that I have never seen your wife looking so happy and content. It was just wrong the way you used to keep her locked up in the basement.

P.S.S.  I like the way you mention that you work in "Aerospace" and it will be just between us two that you were actually a security guard at the Albuquerque Aerospace Museum. Maybe that is why you also mention that you were former "Law Enforcement".  You always did know how to embellish your biography.

Later dude.

"Please dont take advice from this obviously unstable new member (GAU5-A-A)."

Ohhh, an amateur psychiatrist.   I’m sure the mental health community is dying to learn of your amazing diagnostic skills, the ones you developed during 6th period study hall. he
Did you read that off an APD press release?   Let me guess.   You’re either an APD employee, a
Chamber of Commerce employee, a cop wannabe, or a soccer mom.    Sorry, but unnecessary use of
deadly force is murder, and many courts have agreed.   And the unusually high instance of APD
shootings suggests it isn’t something officers try to avoid. hCause her job is to spin the incident to reflect favorably on APD.   Did you see her on TV a week ago?  She was struggling so hard to come up with euphemisms to justify a shooting she was pausing her speech and closing her eyes as her brain strained to come up with words
that sounded even slightly logical.    Listen closely.  When you hear words like “the suspect
resisted”,“confronted”,“challenged” officers, it makes you think they were justified in killing him.
What’s missing are statements that the suspect had a deadly weapon and attempted to use it on
officers, which would have justified deadly force.   In shootings where this is the case, APD trumpets
the fact.  What I find amazing is when the news crew interviews eyewitnesses to the shooting and their accounts completely conflict with the spin the spokeswoman just puked up.   And no one seriously delves into the disparity of statements.

I feel well qualified to judge L.E. agencies I come in contact with.   I’ve spent several years as a law
enforcement supervisor, I still fight crime even though I no longer carry a badge. I can spot poor police work pretty easily, but most civilians simply don’t have a clue.   My opinion of APD is based mainly on my own observations of them in action, and the times I’ve called for assistance.   The biker incident  mentioned earlier became a 5-hr SWAT situation,  and was a circus of tactical errors.     I’ve called 911 several times about crimes in progress but by the time APD arrived, the perps had completed their crime and left.   One 911 operator kept me on hold for over 30 minutes on a car theft in progress.    The gangbangers had smashed the steering column, tried splicing all sorts of wires together, popped the hood, finally got it started and left, long before APD showed up.

How about APD’s latest badboy.   Officer Chris Chase, currently facing 32 criminal counts and
numerous lawsuits.   He’d make traffic stops and sexually assault  female motorists, and physically beat male motorists, for his own entertainment.   APD has a history of allowing  thugs to operate  within the force.   It’s called the big blue shield, never admit your wrong or anything in the dept is wrong.   It’s the “us against them” mentality and having been a cop, I’ve seen it in action.   Watch their recent recruiting ads on TV.   They stress that they have lowered their standards (again) so no military service or college education is needed.   Check their website.   Convicted criminals and drug abusers can  still be APD cops, if they’ve been clean for the previous 3 years.   This indicates to me the quality of  APD cops isn’t going to improve anytime soon. hetip of the iceberg in a police dept because of the us-vs-them mentality and because it is so easy to
cover up this kind of behavior.   If there were  strong leadership with  integrity within the dept, these
dirtbag cops would have been tossed immediately, not after years of abusing the citizens they swore to protect and serve.   But hey, don’t take my word for it.   Do a little research.   Start here...

http://www.realcrimes.com/Corruption_Overview.htm

"How about some praise for people who risk their lives to make life safer for you and yours. Think of
how many wives and children each year lose their police husbands and fathers while on the job."

APD doesn’t make my life safer.   In the biker case they seriously jeopardized my life.   They used my statement to threaten him with prosecution for kidnaping, and assault.   This dirtbag was back home, scott free 2 days later, and constantly threatened to kill myself and other neighbors.  I take full responsibility for my own safety and  personally handle any crime that involves me.   I’ll call 911
AFTER I’ve got a  TV news crew on site to document the scene and keep the cops honest.

There are good cops, and bad cops, as well as professional police agencies, and agencies I consider
useless.   When I have evidence of an aircraft being used for smuggling, I call DEA.  Used to call
Customs, but they never took any action, even on two obvious drug smuggling aircraft.   Hell, when I
told them there was a guy with a ham radio monitoring the launchings of their Citation interceptor jets, they never followed up on that either.

When I see suspicious activity relating to commercial aircraft operations, I call the FBI.   The several TSA troops I’ve interacted with have been incredibly incompetent.   Heavily armed and armored, but poorly trained in proper use of their equipment and basic security procedures.

I’m sure this will pass over your head, but your post is a perfect example of my statement earlier of
ABQ residents being 99% sheep, who simply do and say whatever idiots in power tell them to.
You probably also believe that dialing 911 will save your butt in an emergency, and that if you’re
innocent, simply telling the truth will keep you free, and that the cop who pulls you over is not going to beat you.

Who the hell are you talking to?  Probably yourself.   No sane person would listen to the
nonsensical ramblings of a troll like yourself for more than 10 seconds.  You’re a very confused young man.
Since you obviously get gratification from virulent personal attacks on total strangers on the net, this post ought to give you a real thrill.

You still working at Toys R Us?   Still living in your Mom’s basement?   Your 76 Datsun still in primer
grey?     If you think serving papers is what a BCSD Sherif does, you are truly clueless.

You don’t know me, and I don’t know you, but I’m looking forward to our next meeting, either in
person or on the boards.   I’ll be happy to show you, face-to-face, my aviation credentials.
How about  35.04 699   106.6169 around 0300, so you can tell gont about the “relaxed and unresponsive” police officer you walked past.   If you’re GPS isn’t too accurate, here’s a clue, the location is just south of the building.   All  other  trolls are invited too.

Now, take you medications, put your airsoft under your pillow, and think long and hard about doing
something productive with your life, like getting your G.E.D.
