Hey guys, I have taken a job that only allows me to carry .40sw hinking.gif
I don't want an xd or glock. I want a 1911 in .45 but since the 40 is the rule, are there any 1911s that are chambered in .40?
Also, it would help with me getting it appoved if it held more than 7 or 8 rounds.
NO, I can't use a 10mm either. lol I tried that allready. I have heard that there are double stack .40sw 1911s out there. Is it true? and where can I get one?
Please help, as they issued me a Beretta Cougar! Its the worst of both worlds! only 11rd mags, heavy, twoton triggers.......and the worst sights.
ANY suggestions will help.

STI will be your best option. Befriend a gunsmith. I have 140mm mags (sticks out a little) that hold 21 rounds of .40.

126mm is the "carry" mag length as they fit flush. Those can also be worked to get 18 IIRC.

I don't like Para's.

Caspian is another good source. They have a new magazine out that also holds 18. Their frame is all metal.

.40 single stack? STI. Build one (Caspian). or Springfield.

For my carry gun if I had it to do over again? A slightly worked over STI with one 126mm mag in the gun and two 140's on my belt. 60 rounds of .40.

the caspian site is order only by phone with no prices. The sti site lists a 5" double stack 2011 for $1800. Is this like the big manufactures where the list price is way higher than the real store price? If not, lol I see why there are so many glocks out there. lol

STI's are not cheap. However, if you check around (right now) you may be able to find a reconditioned (from STI) Tactical in .40 for $1000.

As for new, check shootersconnection.com they are a dealer, as is Brazos (1911store.com).

STI sold out of these awhile ago, if I'm not mistaken.

They sold them very low key to certain dealers. Keep an eye on the forums and gunbroker. I'll post a link if I can find anything.

Good luck finding a springer in .40, took me forever as they don't make them anymore. If you want high cap, 1911, in .40. STI or SVI is it in my opinion. Yeah you will pay for it bet its tons better than para. Caspian just doesn't have enough parts out in my opinion.

With the STI's you'll need 126mm carry length mags unless you want them sticking out the bottom of the gun quite a bit. Even the 126s aren't going to be flush, but will be better. I think they hold 16 rounds of fun.

Or you could do like I did and just have a smith build you a couple.

STI or Para.

A lot of folks are not convinced on Para's quality lately, and they use some non standard parts (extractor) but the ones I've seen lately seem ok.

STI would be my first choice though.

I would love to have a smith build me one.........I don't think I would have good luck having that done for around a grand. lol
If you find any links for me that would be good. The more I look into STI the more I like (minus the price) but I don't trust Para. I have had friends spend around a grand with them then have hang ups. FTEs and even some FTFs! For $1000 it had better go bang everytime I pull the trigger. I have had some 1911A1s govts in .45 and they all would have to be welded closed to keep them from firing. But thats the same story with the Glocks I have owned.......
I would like to have a custom 1911 built for high cap .40.......but I don't even know where to call or who to talk to. I plan on selling off some of my long guns I don't use much to pay for this endevor......at least part of it. lol
It seems tha like everything I do, the budget doubles midstream. lol

I can't find anything in the used area on GB or this site for STI or any other 40sw hi-cap 1911s........ plenty of single stack 40s and all the .45s you could want.

older paras are good to go. I have two that will feed everything including semiwad cutters and HPs. New ones with the LDA or power extractor can be hit or miss

I have a Kimber single stack in.40, love it.
Mags can be iffy.The factory one is o.k., but I tried Mecs,Metalform & Tripp.
The Mec-Gars and Tripps work the best.
The Tripps hold 9 and fit flush (w/basepad extended a bit) while the others hold 8.
I'd pass on the Metalforms in .40, but I have some in 9mm that work fine.
YMMV.

Had a Para in .40 as well, no issues.
Sold my double-stack 1911's, I'll stick with single.

Any 10mil is a 40cal I have a first edition Thompson 10 mil.

I just ordered an Oly NM stainless .40 cal barrel ,and with a little fine sand cloth 400 grit the barrel reciever just gobbles up the .40 cal!

I keep it as 10 mil but like that I can shoot .40 short and weak if needed!

All the Thompsons (machine guns and 1911's )were made From Spanish investment castings,and machined by Caspian Arms,and then hand fitted at New Hurley Arms NY.

The Name Auto-Ordinance made all the machine guns and pistols you knew of before Karr!

Yes you can turn your Delta Elite into a .40cal with just a barrell change!

With an STI you can have 22 rounds instead of 19. If you like metal frames instead of plastic, you will soon be able to have your cake and eat it too. Stay tuned.

I have a 1911 .40 Springer single stack.

I carry it every day.

The local shop has an older Para (P16? .40) double stack. PM me if you'd like me to check that one out.

the springer is just for me.

If a 1911 40 s&w is a must check out the Dan Wesson 10mm 1911's and add a Storm Lake 40 s&w barrel,link, and bushing. Dan Weson makes three great 1911 10mm and you can find them at thier cheapest at Bud's Gun Shop online (search engine). You will also need to change the recoil spring to 18 lbs.

If you go this way - you will have quality weapon at an affordable price. Plus can can always switch back to 10mm for the ultimate weapon.

thats a good point. How many rounds does that wesson hold?
I may come out better getting a 10mm and adding a good barrel........I love the 10mm but its not allowed on our dept. his

Are you talking about 140mm mags? How are you getting 22 rounds?

140mm mags and they fit the official mag gauge too.

21 plus one in the pipe for 22. Caspians (and that Les Baer) are 18+1 with the extended bases. All my mags are easy to insert with 20 and with a little "pop" it will lock in holding 21.

Stock STI tubes with just a little modification and Bolen parts.

cool. I will check it out.

I just got word that my dept has cut our benefits again..............lol may not need the .40 after all. I sent in app to another dept yesterday. IF I get on there, they mandate issued weapons for primary, then personal owned for backups.
I don't know if a full sized 1911 would work very well for an ankle gun. lol But hey, if ccw is an option for these 1911 40s, I may opt for a smaller barrel.......

Although your question appears to be moot, I see Fusion is having a sale on stripped 6" 10mm/.40 slides with Novak sight cuts. I don't have a longslide, and I think a 10mm version would make a great addition to the stable. Just FYI.
