Whats with all the Chinese Army Propaganda recently? I read a couple of years ago in the Weekly World News that the Chinese were digging a hole through the center of the Earth and coming out in Bartlesville, OK in 2008. Is this what they are training for?

You guys can sit around and call them "chicoms" all day. But really, the Chinese government is FAR from communist. Ever since Mao went away, their economy has been more and more open thanks to guys like Deng Xiao-Ping. There are all kinds of private enterprises and free trade going on in China now. Authoritarian in nature their government may be, but the economy is not that communist anymore, eventhough the gov't still holds ultimately holds the power. The Chinese are natrual born captialists, the Confusian system, which is still very influential today, is all about making yourself better off, and rising to the next level. So Im guessing you got that from your intro levle high school or college Econ class....because a more indepth politcial look would yield otherwise...hmm a limit on the number of children....no firearms....lack of deomcatically elected officials, please I can do this all night. |

No. I've spent quite a bit of time in China, have many friends there, as well as lots of study on their culture and history. I also speak the language. I'm not saying their gov't dosen't have problems, or that is is even a good gov't for that matter. I'll be very happy for the Chinese when they get a full on political change. All I'm saying is that change IS happening in their economy. Also, I think you missed my point. I am talking about their economy only. Not the One-Child Policy or their limited freedoms. FWIW, the one-child policy really only applies in the city. People in the countryside are allowed to have an extra child if their first child is a girl. Brian |
