I like the Bula Defense parts assembled by James River Armory,  It's the "best" IMO... I love mine!

Being forged a forged (not cast) receiver was a big point for me. That, and I appreciated the "historical" points like the bayonet lug, and the proof marks

Bula Defense..  Very well made forged not cast great finish on them... I bought one 2 years ago at Camp Perry at the Nationals.. No regrets. now on the other hand. I have no issues with Springfield's  I have had one for over 15 years.. never an issue other than finish and life of barrel. If you do go Springfield go stainless barrel

For the record, I was aware of the reported issues with JRA before I bought mine, but it's Bula that makes the important bits and who is 100% GTG (a real defense contractor), and they WILL take care of any problems that you might have.

I would MUCH rather "deal" with JRA putting the rife together  vs Springfield (and their political shortcomings...putting it mildly). Fulton has it points I guess, but not enough to beat out the JRA version... again, just my opinion

The M14 wasn’t worth buying in 1958 let alone 2018.

I have a much better idea.  A Garand with a laminated stock and a chrome lined barrel.

This one is a Breda in .30-06.  But I also have a chrome lined Breda in .308.

Just checked their website....$2726.15 (how did they arrive at that price???) for a standard "service grade" gun with a reconditioned fiberglass stock...

Yeah...no thanks.

The best for the price is Springfield Armory

You can get a M1A standard  model new for around $1300

This.

Best M14? LRB.

Best affordable M14? JRA.

I like the Garand better though... Though I prefer the 1903A3 or a Mauser to that.

LP

I have had 4 Springfield M1A rifles over the years, still have two of them. Never have had the first malfunction or any part break.

If you want something to put a scope on I would recommend something other than a M1A but if you want to shoot irons it is hard to beat.

I'm personally happy with my route.

Polytech M14 that was out of headspace, got a USGI Bolt and then had Warbirds Custom Guns install, headspace and refinish.   I now have a chrome-lined barrel and forged reciever with USGI parts on it.

I take it you mean an SAI receiver with all TRW parts?  The all-TRW's were re-wields and confiscated by the ATF some years ago.  The only remaining all TRW's are pre-86 NFA and go for about $25,000 (if you can find one).

Besides, all-TRW parts based SAIs are over-rated and over-priced.  TRW bolds and oprods are worth it though.  So too are their barrels, but one can get more accurate barrels today.

I understand wanting an M1A. I wanted for a very long time and was going to buy one this past march.

Then I bought a PTR 91 instead.

Zero regerts.

Obviously since I was discussing Springfield Armory M1As I meant an SAI receiver with TRW parts .

Tell me again how $1200 was too much for an M1A with all TRW parts.

really my ideal rifle would be a modernized daewoo K1 in 308 but no such thing exists

so im undecided, and most of them that from the M14/M1a era are 2MOA guns, so it makes me scratch my head.

I bought 25 round mags for my Scout/Squad. They're a bit long to shoot prone with, but it's doable. Finding mag pouches for them is a problem.

most of those old battle rifles are not really accurate, people forget that for some reason, so no its not for accuracy, if i wanted that i would get a modern AR10

308 is not the best round for accuracy anyway, so 1 to 3MOA is fine to me
