Hell yeah I had that problem. So I quit drinking. I'm an all-or-nothing kind of guy. I can have zero drinks, or I can have 20. There's no middle ground for me. I bet that's true for you, too.
I'm a lot happier without booze. Everything is better. It's only tough at first. Booze fills a hole in your heart, but that hole can be filled by lots of things that are healthier for you. PM me any time. I'm serious. |

Every 5 days? Yep, you drink too much. Cut down, way down. Then quit for at least a month and see how you do. If you cannot do this you have a problem. I have seriously had a drink of something every day of my life for the past 20 years and it is a habit that i feel is going to be impossible to break. this is also coming from someone who managed to quit dipping after 20 years of a can a day habit. |

Drinking is causing you pain, or else you wouldn't have posted this. When it causes you enough pain, you'll be ready to quit. That's how the human mind works. Some people can take a lot of pain. How hot does the stove have to get before you take your hand off? I don't mean to preach at you. Preaching doesn't do shit. You'll quit when you're ready. I've been there, and I'm still there. Best of luck to you, buddy. |

Heres a test. Try some controlled drinking.
Have one drink a day for a week. Just one drink a day. No skipping a day then having two the next day. If you make it through the week only having one drink a day, you probably don't have a problem. If after one drink you have to have another and can't stop, you might need some help. |

But i keep looking and reading where you said that booze only fills a hole in the heart, and i have to take a stance back and agree. I once had a mentor of mine that would catch me when i would drink a lot and say that it was only because i was bored. Maybe i am bored in life, but i am also now in a place where i can not make a drastic change like i was able to 10 years ago. |

i am close to the same. On weekends when we have friends over and i get a good fire going in the back, usually one or two will try and stay up with me telling stories and then it take me two or three days to get over the hangover. Even though i still crave and still have a drink the next afternoon. My wife just looks at me with this face and says how the hell do you do that. I take that as evidence that there is a gene for alcoholism, and I have it. One more reason to quit. |

Yeah, you sound just like me. Drinking doesn't put me to sleep, it wakes me up. I can put down insane amounts of liquor and still function just fine. No slurring, no falling, no blackouts, no puking, etc. I never met a man who could out-drink me. I take that as evidence that there is a gene for alcoholism, and I have it. One more reason to quit. There have been times where me and a buddy have burned through two large bottles of bourbon in a night and where still bull shitting when the sun came up. |

its all dependent, So far tonight i have had 2-10oz drinks of vodka over ice and 5 strong bourbons and cokes from a 20oz tumbler. Umm, if that is normal for you on a Wednesday night, and other nights is close to that amount, give or take a 2 oz. shot, I would say you have a drinking problem. Not saying all 12-step recovery groups are for you, but its worth checking out. |

My wife would have a couple of beers after work each day and a few more on the weekends. Then she was putting away a 6 pack a day at least with probably closer to 12 on weekend nights. Then it went to rum and coke. Until recently she was going through a 1.75L bottle of Bacardi every two days of so. She doesn't drink much now but hasn't quit completely. The only thing that has slowed her down is that she is too sick to drink like that now.
She is spending a second night in the ICU tonight. Was up there twice last week too. She has Cirrhosis now and is in liver failure. All the vomiting, diarrhea/incontinence , not being able to eat hardly anything, being too weak to get to the bathroom in time has really cut back on her drinking. She will be 46 in December. If she makes it to December. She has the fluid building up in her abdomen and lower legs now. Tuesday she had to have some fluid drained from her belly. They took 5.3 liters out. Her electrolyte levels are so low her heart could stop. That's why she is in the ICU again. It's not a pretty way to go. Once the liver is damaged it can't heal. Drinking to excess is damaging you liver and eventually it is nothing but scar tissue. She still thinks she isn't that bad and doesn't believe the doctors. She thinks she doesn't drink that much. Stop now. If not for you, do it for your family. Worst conversation I have ever had was trying to explain to our 18yr old daughter last week that her mother is dying and might not make it to the end of this year. |

If it was that easy this problem wouldn't exist. Addicts become chemically dependent on alcohol. It's not like choosing to have tacos for lunch instead of cheeseburgers. so i did the keto diet a few months back and was able to drop 30lbs. The issue is that i never actually quit drinking and would just do strait vodka or gin |

Look up the average life expectancy of a male alcoholic, then wonder if they drank less than you. If your comfortable with an early grave drink on. As I type this I'm sipping on a 16oz Coors light. a few drinks in the afternoon is not as bad as having to sneak drinks in the morning or at lunch because i have to have it. |

how bad do you have to fuck up to have that absolutionist view? backstory? Absolutionist? Is that even a word? I have a tendency towards compulsion. All or nothing. I wish I could change that, but I can't. All I can do is recognize it and adapt. I quit drinking and funneled my compulsion into shooting, boxing, MMA, and lifting heavy. I'm pretty fucking happy with the results. Maybe some day I'll learn a way to overcome that compulsion. In the meantime, I'll just keep channeling it into positive things and away from negative things. |
