You can only go about 3 days without drinking fluid.

Better keep at it.

Why do you drink?

Solv that problem.

Focus on it.

If you solve the problem, you can change the habit.

Then replace drinking with ???

My suggestion is resist the urge to buy it. Go home and find something to occupy your time. Mow the yard, weedeat, clean the gutters. Shit like that. Take meletonin at night to sleep. Your mind will get clear. Fight the urge.

One of my best decisions ever made was the one to quit drinking.

But, then again, alcohol "made" me turn green and fight stuff.

I think i drink because i grew up drinking.

My dad was a drinker... every day at whatever time, he would pop one open. I never even considered that it was not normal growing up.

We also had a 3k acre ranch with almost 1k beef head, and pretty much worked from sun up to sun down and i loved every minute of it.

Drinking was just natural. Never really got drunk. Just drank to drink for whatever reason.

I do remember and will never forget just how good a cold beer taste at 3pm on a Tuesday in the middle of a hay field while racking hay on an open top tractor when its over 100 out.

sadly it is just a habit that i have had since i was around 15 and has stuck with me till today.

technically i do not feel like i get drunk, but i am sure that i get past the point of a legal limit.

I usually drink vodka on the rocks and go through a bottle every 5 days.

I dont tend to drink beer anymore as it bloats me way to bad.

I was in the exact same boat but through a fortunate accident, managed to quit almost seven years ago.

I was prescribed Focalin for ADHD, within a week, the desire for alcohol disappeared, it was like being freed from prison. The best part is that when I stopped the medication a year later, the cravings did not return.

Not saying it will work for everyone, but for me, 60mg of Focalin XR helped break a habit I thought would hound me to an early grave.

Good luck brother.

When you start wondering about your drinking there is usually a reason for that. Having a burning desire to drink is a bad sign.

also, since i now work in an office and not on the farm, i have lost a tone of muscle mass and am starting to hurt in the mornings

wanna take a swing at what's absolutely, completely irrelevant unless you're driving?

and even that's also completely irrelevant and ought to be judged on an individual basis because one person's 3 beers aren't another's (but that's just something somebody says when they want half of GD to go apeshit and tell them just how wrong they really are)

ETA:  nevermind, you live in the zoo now.  best to just add a lift kit to your half ton 2wd and start drinking monster energy drinks by the case, instead

I used to drink through the week a few years back.  Wasn’t good.  I’d get buzzed or drunk then sleep it off and go to work hungover.  My dad was terminally ill and I self medicated.  I quit working out didn’t indulge in my hobbies it was bad.  Well one day I after I said no more this isn’t me.  2 years later back down to my fighting weight and drink occasionally on sat nite if I have the energy after all of the house chores.

I'm with you 100%.  Was thinking about this in the shower this morning.  I need to stop but keep making excuses and make artificial deadlines.  I keep saying to myself..."after I close XYZ deal I'll stop drinking...as soon as I get done with ABC project I'll stop drinking...after I file all these tax returns I'll stop..."

I keep setting these milestones but the create new ones.  I've got a problem and this is the first time ever I've put it in writing..I don't know what's more pathetic, coming out in GD or just me....

not that its an issue, its just not the norm for the area that i live in.

Now if i where back home on the farm in BFE east Texas, it would be completely normal and i would probably die of liver failure in my early 60's

The problem is you'll become chemically dependent and it will no longer be a simple decision to stop.  Depending on how much you consume.  I've seen what happens to someone that stops drinking after long term (10-20-30 years) alcoholism.  It can kill you if not done right.   But that said those people are typically unhealthy in other aspects as well.

You are an alcoholic.  Get help.  If you won’t and have people close to you, leave.  You don’t have the right to fuck up the lives of others.

If you think it's a problem just stop. If you can't stop, get help. I'll have a few beers when I travel, but very rarely drink at home. I go through less than a case of beer a year at my house. I do have the occasional bourbon with a cigar, but I've dialed that back quite a bit too.

That might be a little in the excessive side and this is coming from a guy who drinks a 1.75 Of bulleit every two weeks ( occasionally faster if I have vacation)

OP, I feel you.

I drink on average 3 beers a night during the week. Maybe up to 6 on a weekend night.

I am stone sober right now and on my 4th or 5th glass of water. Not because I think I have a problem, but because I am on this diet and am trying to get from 180 down to 165 lbs.

I gained those 15 pounds when I moved to San Diego with all the good beer...

The water helps. It feels like the beer in your hand. Cold and everything. Give it a try. Sugary stuff is what I crave when I am not drinking. That is tough.

I was in the same boat as you up until 2 months ago. One night I decided to stop just to give my body a break and I have not had a drink since. No urges and I feel WAY better. You just have to make the personal decision to stop, find a reason weather it be health, family, whatever and use that as the motivation.

Every 5 days?  Yep, you drink too much.

Cut down, way down.  Then quit for at least a month and see how you do.  If you cannot do this you have a problem.

I try really hard not to let things like alcohol or tobacco control me these days. I chewed tobacco for 15 years and woke up to how stupid it was and quit cold turkey 6 years ago. If I couldn't go a day without a drink of alcohol, I'd quit that too. That's just me though.

But nothing tastes better than an ice cold beer at 8am.

My GIL (grandfather in law) would drink a big jack daniels at 50 or so every 5 days.
By 55 he was at 1 big bottle and maybe 1/4 of a new bottle every day.
By 57 he was dead.
