I can remember the number of a key I used one time 3 months ago. I remember someone's birthday that was mentioned only in passing as I filled out some paperwork for them. I can recognize someone who I haven't seen in 2 years, never spoke to in my life, and only had seen them in passing one time.
Why is this? |
You aren't alone.
But for the life of me, I can't remember what happens to all my money . |
Someone jokingly told me I have Aspergers once. I tend to bounce from hobby to hobby every year or so. When I am on a current hobby I envelop myself completely in it 110% and become a mini-expert on it. Then I move on to the next one |
I'm not alone in the world!!! |
As a result I know quite a bit about photography, metalcasting, firearms, and boardgames |
I remember my telephone number from when I was a kid and the phone numbers of several of my grade school friends.
I also retain useless trivia. The only time I get to use it is if I con somebody into playing me at Trivial Pursuit. |
You (like many of us) maintain a cesspool of useless knowledge?
As much useful crap as I've forgotten over the years, I don't think even late stage alzheimers could make me forget the words to "Ice Ice Baby".
Alright stop, collaborate and listen Ice is back with a brand new invention |
Here too.
Seems like I recall the oddest information. The other day a friend was telling me the contractors repairing her roof stopped working during the hottest part of the day. " Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon day sun" was my reply. Rudyard Kipling, of course. Why do I remember such nonsense? |
my gawd, ive got more useless knowledge in my head that will get me no where in life, but its there. LoL..
They have a name for it? I thought it was me just being me. |
Yup tons of useless stuff bouncing around my head but I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday...
NN |

+1 living this way gets to be expensive. you want quality gear just like people who are seriously into whatever it is......but then you're over it, and have all this used crap |
that's alright. after playing the game scene it, i've realized that i know random movie trivia on movies i've never seen or heard of before. it freaks me out every time
What I want to know is who all these people I don't recognize are and how they know my name.
Who the fuck are you? Why are you greeting me by name when I have no idea who you are? What's your name? Where do we know each other from? |
I remember the social security number of several officers from when I was company clerk from 1989-1992 and used to type up OERs and NCOERs.
Why do I remember this, but I forgot my cell phone # ???
3.14159265358979323846 |
i am kind of the same way
i think they call people like us jacks-of-all-trades, or renaissance men |
+1 BTDT & moved on to the next hobby fling... |

I can remember all kinds of part numbers, my ssn, my dl# wife's ssn, the phone number of my childhood home etc. But I can't remember where I put my keys unless I keep them in my pocket.
Make it pay. |
3.14159265358979323846264338327950288 ...but I used to know it to 100+ digits. |
I'm really good with numbers. I can tell you the SSN of my high school girlfriend(about 8 years ago) and 2 of the numbers of the credit cards in my wallet without taking it out of my pocket(not a good thing when you find something you like on the net and can buy it without having to get out your wallet!)

Isnt Pi supposed to be non repeating? the last two eights repeat. |

Keepers Of Odd Knowledge seem to abound on ARFCOM
I think if Cliff Clavin were real, he would have an account (and an ammo fort, he is a postman after all). ETA: Correct my error as identified below by Larkinmusic |

Sounds like me. WHen I was younger, I had all kinds of silly hobbies that I would spend 100% of my mental energy on. The big one was astronomy. I used to write facts about each planet on index cards and then hold them in my hand and think about the enormous wealth of knowledge I was holding.
Then it turned to music (and still is). But then about a year ago it went to chemistry. I've had other short-lived fascinations (most of which are still of interest to me) in my life. I seem to remember numbers well too. I can remember Avagadro's number (6.0221367x10^23) after only hearing it a few times on a video chemistry class, and when I was 2 I could count backwards from 100. However, I have a hard time remembering faces/names, unless I spend time with them and talk to them for a few days. People recognize me all the time, and I don't remember who they are. Autism runs in my family, and I've been told that I have a lot of symptoms of Asperger's - though nothing major. One big thing is that I tend to be very introverted. I just can't get out of that. |

Thats me to a "T" Snowboarding, paintball, car audio, home audio, computers, guns, on-road rc cars, real cars, go karts, golf, collectibles, models, comics, sports cards, trading card games, guitars, hockey, snorkling, personal training/the gym.....fuck me it never ends. At least my mainstays are cars, guns, and hockey. I can always count on wanting or needing some form of those three. I was discussing this today with my dad. Of all the interests and activities I take part in I usually cant stand the other people involved in said activity. I realize its because all those people do is that one activity. Outside of it they have nothing in common with me. I have or have had my hand in everything and always phase in and out of things. Makes finding decent people to hang out with hard. I still love being me, everyone I know comes to me for answers or when something breaks. And I have a great ass. |

That isn't quite the case. Pi is irrational; it can't be made from a regular fraction. It does not repeat, meaning that you never get to a point where it starts over and repeats a pattern over and over again. If it did, it might look like 3.141591415914159... but it doesn't. In fact, since it appears to continue without end, you can find any number sequence in the digits of pi. |

I remember the license plate number of my dad's 51' Plymouth station wagon. I think he sold it about 1960.
Right now, I couldn't tell you the plate number of either one of my vehicles. |
I found out today that I remember how to do most of the fatalities in the original Mortal Kombat.
I still remember most of my locker combinations from elementary and high school.
That's over 20 years ago. |
I remember my parents phone number from 1955: MOntrose-25818. It was a party line.
I work in a grocery store, and I can remember where anything is, what the package looks like, the price within maybe 10 cents, and if we have another case in our inventory.
But if I need to remember the 6 digit order # I will forget it by the time I walk to the back, or if I am interupted. |
I remember back in 1992 what car we rented when we went to Disneyland,(blue Chevy Corsica) where we stayed,(Castle Inn in Anaheim) what car we didn't rent(red Ford Tempo), why we didn't rent that car(not everyone could fit), and I remember the first license plate my mom had on the van she got in 1993. WLZ 226.
Yeah, I'm a mini-expert on model railroading, R/C cars and planes, legos (going back a few years) and many other things. The only passions I've consistenly stayed with over the years are guns and reloading. |
