I got sent to work on an A/C for an oilfield company. I got met at the office an told no knives or cutting instruments. I asked what I was supposed to strip wire with. I got a
. I then was told if I need to strip some wire, make sure I didn't get seen doing it.

I used to work for the USPS. One of my favorites is how they wanted to expand financial services to increase revenue. We sold a lot of money orders, but often did not have the cash on hand to cash them.
Or, "here is three times the regular volume of mail today. Yeah I know it's snowing, can you get done early today?" |

Dipshits boss saw me setting my forks wider to pick up some sideways loaded pallets and freaked out "NO ALTERING EQUIPMENT!"
I played along though and had her call the mechanic and when he realized what she was saying he respectfully declined to take on fork width adjustment duty for the whole loading dock. The eye rolling could have tipped Guam. Same place, different boss. Some temporary power lines somehow fell onto I-35 and the highway + service road was shut down both directions. Guys who were normally always early were getting to work 3+ hours late. The next day the boss lectured us on the importance of being on time to work. Then one time they hired a visibly pregnant chick as an order picker who immediately went on restricted duty and then medical leave because she couldn't lift, bend, squat, or reach. |

I work in a diesel shop where we are not allowed to have steel razor blades or bench grinder or drill bits.
we are also not allowed to repair most things as that requires parts and we don't have any and just last wednesday we were all bitch slapped because 12 year old trailers they are trying to sell are in such bad condition they can't be sold and it's all our fault and now I work for 2 bitches, yes actual bitches "Bitch, literally meaning a female dog, is a pejorative slang word for a personusually a womanwho is belligerent, unreasonable, malicious, a control freak, rudely intrusive or aggressive." |

I manage a wood working shop. Think of panel saws, miter saws, and nails guns running all day. We have vaccum systems on all of the saws.
We are not allowed to use compressed air or vacuums to clean up wood dust. |

We got rid of pocket knives about 5 years ago.
Brought them back about 2 years ago cause you wouldn’t believe how bad people can fuck themselves up trying to open things without knives. |

No stupid as such but caused issues.
Large factory, lots of 6-7 foot high conveyors, work regularly got trapped. Operators started freeing it rather than wait an hour for maintanenece. Using step ladders Stopped that and locked them always with the keys with security the other side of the plant. Then you had to walk all the way to the storage rooms the other corner. After that take them back then the keys. So what did everybody start doing? Standing on swivel chairs.standing on tables,conveyors anything. Guess what happened people were falling all over where there were no accidents before. |

I worked for a engineering/consulting company doing environmental work (fisheries work). I swear the corporate safety people all shared one lone brain cell. Some of their best ideas include:
- When filleting fish in order to send tissue samples to the lab they wanted use to use safety knives. Every tried to fillet a fish with a safety knife?
- After convincing them you cannot fillet a fish with a safety knife they required we wear kevlar gloves. We had to wear nitrile gloves to prevent contaminating the samples so the kevlar gloves had to be worn under the nitrile gloves. Nothing like trying to fillet fish while wearing two pairs of gloves. - One safety idiot told use on a pre-job conference call that we were not allowed to have containers of gasoline on the boat. When someone pointed out the gas tank was a container of gas the safety idiot flipped out and instructed us that we could not use gas to run the engine or the generator (electrofishing boats use a generator to run the electrofishing system). We had to get a company VP involved to override the safety idiot. |

I have to go through safety training at dozens of plants every year.
I have seen an increase in the last year of “don’t use a hammer to hit another hammer, because the hardened hammer can shatter” bullshit in their various safety briefs. |

Funny on the pregnant woman. I got paired with one who is due in 5 weeks the other day at a plant to assist/escort me. I have worked with a few female mechanics/electricians before and have never been impressed. This lady was no joke. She was about to burst but was down busting her ass to help me out. So much so I gave her praise to her boss without her knowing. Very rare to find one that dedicated. |

I don't remember the exact phrasing but it was along the lines of "carrying a firearm in this building is considered trespass, which will result in an arrest and possible confiscation of your firearm" I'm sure someone in corporate thought it sounded good... but had no idea how trespass laws - or the state laws on firearms - actually work. |

Forgot to mention Effective June 1rst or July 1rst not sure which because I don't care. The use of any type of tobacco is banned
. When they banned smoking it was because of state law. But the upcoming ban is on them I work next to tanks of HF and Nitric acid and I'll continue to use use my grizzly long cut wintergreen!!! Maybe I'll get fired and retire early

Place I worked got gigged on a safety inspection for having a gas grill outside the back door.
They said that it needed to be locked closed so no one could put an explosive device inside it. Just around the corner about 40 feet away was an above ground tank holding 2500 gallons of diesel for the facility generators. Now if I was going to bomb the place would I put the explosive device in the gas grill or next to the big assed tank of diesel fuel?

Well my group has folk pimping increased code coverage requirements for a legacy product as a measure of quality. Aside from the fact that code coverage really isn’t an indicator of quality, the actual methodology is done in such a way that exercised code in many cases is absolutely not tied to any qualitative tests.
Yeah when this shit goes south I’ll have some good stories. |

If the person/s hired for the safety team has never actually used the tool in question daily during work, they shouldn't be making any decisions.
If they have never done the work, they shouldn't even be on a safety team. If all they have is a degree, they should be required to have at least 3-5 years of actual work experience before they have their findings taken seriously. If they don't even know what the tool does or how it works, they should be terminated. |
