I have been dating this girl for a few months now.
She seems quite intrested my ideas on self reliance and ammo hording. I'd like to give her a visual to help drive home the idea? What are the best flicks? Thanks |

Schindler's list....
what happens when a population has no means to resist |
I think iRobot with Will Smith is one of the better ones. Just point out that the robots are a metaphor for government. Started out a creation of the people, to help them, but evolved to the point where it's everywhere, self-sustaining, taking over.

+1 Watch the movie, wipe your eyes, and clean your guns(or go shooting). If you don't need to do either of those after watching it, you aint human. |

How about the 6 o'clock news?
We were talking about the Sunni/Shite thing in Iraq the other night and about how far removed and impossible it seems from our everyday life. That got us on the subject of how little it would take to put us there however. For instance, what would happen if the KKK decided to blow up the next Ms. Black USA pagent claiming they were tired of the hypocrasy of 'seperate but equal'. What would the ramification to this county be? It really WOULDN'T take much. Hell, the next Super Bowl, NBA Championship, o rmajor 'racial' court case could be enough. |

TRIGGER EFFECT
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000IQW8/qid=1142803531/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/104-8938913-8348703?n=130 a pretty good SHTF story about a huge blackout in the Los Angeles area I picked up the dvd for $5.00 at Best Buy |

'Heat'
Just watch in horror as the cops over-react after Evil Black Rifles brainwash the so-called bad guys into a life of crime....it's all just soooooo sad. Al Pacino's character has that gun...you know the one...I just can't think what it's called...anyway Oh and 'Falling Down' Another good movie about a man corrupted by the influence of evil firearms. Could have had a happy ending if it were not for the NRA and the stupid American gun culture. roy d.....can't forget the and the so people will realize I'm just ing around and not a |

Movies???? - Nahhh
Get her to read Lucifers Hammer - that'll get her head straight on TEOTWAWKN. |

WWII/Holocaust
- Schindler's List [Jews & other prisoners who are saved by a Nazi industrialist. The major problem with this movie is that it offers hope, where in reality, very few had any hope. It's good in its depiction of governmental indifference towards "lower classes", though.] - Uprising (made for TV movie, but available on DVD) [About the one major Jewish resistance movement, which occured in the Warsaw ghetto.] - The Grey Zone [About the Nazi death camps, and what happens when the government has total control of your life, and the decisions you could be forced to make.] Modern Day - Red Dawn [80's, invasion of Soviet-sponsored Cuban army into the US, and resisted in one town by a group of high school kids.] - The Trigger Effect [An unexplained long-term power outage creates serious problems for suburban "yuppies" who are totally unprepared, in every way, to survive. I.e., what NOT to do.] Of course, there are survival/SHTF elements in many other movies, but most of them are really sappy "love stories" or simply extended-legnth commercials and have little to do with reality overall. Few movies dare to deal with the gritty reality that represents the worst of human behavior, and fewer still attempt to show how "normal" people cope with such issues. Instead, we get the Bruce Willis/Arnold/Stallone superhero. Really, the best sources for this content are books: - Patriots (Rawles) - Unintended Consequences (Ross) - Lights Out by Halffast on Frugal Squirrels. and a number of others. -Troy |

BINGO!!!!! No more calls, please. We have a winner. Yep, forget the movies and, instead, show her video clips of hurricanes like katrina, rita, ivan, dennis and andrew (just to name a few). Throw in a dash of new york city during 9/11 and the august 2003 blackout plus some video footage and photographs of the L.A./Rodney King riots and the aftermath of the big 1989 earthquake that took place in california (which occurred near san fransisco, if I recall correctly). Lastly, for kicks and giggles, show her some of the footage of all of the riots that have occurred in france (and the rest of europe, for that matter) over the last few months. Again, forget the movies because the real-life news networks show plenty of examples on tv everyday. |

Give her the Zombie test. Rent all the documentaries. |

The Pianist is one of the best SHTF movies ever made and a true story. imdb.com/title/tt0253474/ |

Waco: The Rules of Engagement
Waco: New Revelations If that isn't SHTF, I don't know what is. |

The Postman
The Day After Mad Max & The Road Warrior Deep Impact Night of the Comet Omega man Outbreak |
Yup, what he said. Hot fudge sundae falls on tuesday this week. |

A better movie to watch or maybe after [or before Schindler's List] is the Ghetto Uprising. What those people did to preserve their liberty is unbelievable. |

Good call, all of them . |
1950's flick, Called ---> "Panic at year zero". Its a little cheesy, but-- Maybe the original SHTF/TEOTWAWKI movie ever.
After watching that moivie, I loaded up some more ammo, and started taking other newbies out to the range. That movie showed how sick some people are and how others rose to the occasion to help others out. By showing others to focus on the front sight I feel I'm helping them out. |

I thought the 6 o'clock news was a pretty good answer but I will have to second this one!! |
A Boy and His Dog
The Postman Mad Max Escape From New York Escape from L.A. The Exterminator |
+Eleventy billion--maybe not so much SHTF, but definately a 'stay armed' movie... |
careful Doc, neocons are everywhere.. |
I think the movie Trigger Effect would be the best SHTF movie to show your girlfriend, because it's more like a real life story of what could happen.
>they show people trying to buy supplies in stores and since the power is out, they only take cash [no credit cards] >they go to a gun store to buy a gun for protection and the dealer jacks up the prices on all guns and ammo >people panic and try to leave the city because of widespread violence and looting, car jackings >gas shortages >chaos |
You're going to us a Hollywood movie to justify a case for having guns and ammo? If you use Hollywood for a rationale, you can make the same case for gun control, getting fingerprints off of wet rocks, cowboys should be married and space invaders are coming. Why not show her news footage of Katrina aftermath, the LA riots after the Rodney King verdict, the current riots in France, etc. |

I see they've already been mentioned, but have her read "Lucifer's Hammer."
Movies: The Day After The Trigger Effect: Probably most relevant/easily identifiable with The Trigger Effect (1996) How tenuous is man's hold on civilization when survival becomes an issue? When the lights go out and stay out for several days, suburbanites Matthew and Annie learn the hard way that man is "by nature" a predatory creature. Matthew's long-time friend, Joe, happens by on the second day and a rivalry between the two friends simmers as Annie cares for her sick baby. When rumors of looting spread through the neighborhood, the two men buy a rifle for protection but Annie throws it in the pool. Later, that same night, Joe hears a prowler downstairs and awakens Matthew. They chase the stranger from the house and out into the street where a neighbor shoots him to death. No longer safe in their own home, they decide to drive to Annie's parents some 500 miles away. Before they reach their destination, more trouble comes their way when they stop to siphon gas from an abandoned car and discover the driver in the back seat... Is this what is meant by "man's inhumanity to man?" |
