Oldest son came in for the holidays. For a country kid he's picked up a few not so normal (for Alabama anyway) culinary traits. So we went to a local Indian restaurant. Was not in a good part of town, surprise, building it was most likely a Chinese buffet that went out of business. We parked, went in, was met by some fat Indian dude, could tell he hadn't spent much time in his home country lately, but he had a high squeaky voice. There were quite a few Indians there, son told me that was a good thing because the food would be closer to genuine. The place had an odd smell. Another dude with a squeaky voice came by, did the classic waiter thing and left a few menus. WTF. Lots of lamb. I'm not eating anything that cowboys regularly fuck. I got the shrimp. I didn't know that spices that hot were legal. I ate it all - shrimp, vegetables, rice, crackly bread, green and red sauce, all of it. It was pretty damn good. Till the next morning.  I could have cut steel plate with the noxious fumes blowing out of my asshole. Oh the agony. I was hitting the flush lever like it had a slide fire.  If there would have been a spark - well you can imagine the damage. That ain't gonna happen again.

Comedian John Pinette on Indian food...

"Aaaaah aaaahhh aaaahhhhh... That's no sitar... that's the sound of flames coming out of your ass!"

Fifteen years ago I had to attend a two week training in a builing adjacent to an Indian restaurant. It started to stink around 10AM every day.
The stench alone would keep me from ever eating Indian food.

I good Indian food.
My gullet is now fully prepared and capable of handling the most violent curries.

I get a 40 on the 1-10 scale at the joint closest to the house.
I get a 8 or 9 on the 1-10 scale at the "good" joint across town frequently... The 10 is truly a 10 there.

Indian food is delicious.  Probably my favorite ethnic food.

They closed down the vegetarian Indian place here so I've been going to the non-vegetarian ones.

I still remember my first bite of real Indian food. Had a bud that was/is obsessed with it. He conned me into going, well the rest is history.
I love it, but there isn't much I won't eat either.

Don't be a pussy, go to a lunch buffet and try it b4 bitching. U may just like it.

Oddly enough, just yesterday I had Tandoori (lamb, chicken, shrimp) at the new Indian place in Tupelo, MS. It's in a former Mexican place; the food was good; the waitstaff were 'meh'.

Indian food is as hot as you want it to be. You CAN order it almost anywhere on the mild-to-hot scale; it isn't normal for all Indians to eat hot food any more than it's normal for Thai, Chinese, Japanese, or Mexican food to look like the Americanized version thereof.

Depends on where they are from, to a certain extent.  I have a friend from Assam (NE India), and he says most of the food there is very hot by American standards.

I prefer Thai curries to Indian. Houston's loaded with indian & paki joints. I aint against eating it, but tend to avoid it. The good stuff aint cheap, but is really cheap food.

My best friend growing up was Indian.  I miss his mother's cooking as much as I miss my own mother's.

"What is this?"
"It's good, eat it"
"But what is it?"
"Doesnt make difference!"
"Ok, this is good"
"I tell you!"

There are a couple of good Indian places here in Huntsville. Shoot me an IM if you ever want to give it another try and I'll be happy to recommend some restaurants to you.

There's no meat in this world any finer than a good lamb chop with a bit of rosemary.

Garlic nan bread, now that is the bomb.   Never had Indian food until I went to Singapore several times this year.   Went to several places and one with a Indian friend.
Was a real nice treat.  And the lime drink.  Outstanding...

Lol, I just can't dig it. I've tried it numerous ways, rare, well done, with mint apple jelly, roasted with all sorts of seasonings...I even ate it raw once when a Lebonese boss's mom brought him some raw ground lamb dish.

They only way I enjoy lamb is in gyro meat, and that's probably less than 50% lamb

ETA: small amounts in grape leaves are OK too

He blamed curry on you Brits.

Ya, curry is British. The Brits would pick up a lot of the culture of the lands they occupied and adding curry to stuff was a sort of offshoot of their India days (going by memory).

I order the curry mei fun from the local chinese joint all the time; good stuff. I've never had Indian food that tasted like that though. Indian food tastes...different

You got a case of Angry Ass, lol

With that said, I'm used to Indian and eat it at least 3-4 times a week.  Having Chai in about 15 minutes.....
