Gearsmithy's thread got me thinking about a couple of experiences of mine that I still cannot explain. I believe I've told them here a long time ago but I've got time to kill and am curious to hear other's experiences as well. It's pretty much a TL:DR thread but if you're as bored as me it'll pass some time. The first one is pretty weak but still sticks with me as nothing really adds up, the second one flat out fucks with my mind to this day. First story: Quite a few years ago I took a solo late season bowhunting trip up to the Chequamegon Nicolete National Forest in mid December. It's a massive 1.5million acre forest in northern Wisconsin that has quite a few roadways scattered about. I found a decent looking area on Google maps and headed out around midnight the night before. Parked my truck off the side of one of the little forest roads and set out in the dark to find a place to sit for the morning. The plan was to hunt a few hours from the ground, then grab lunch and pack my treestand out to find a decent spot to set up for the evening and following day. After lunch I ended up heading further in than I planned but I just kept heading East from the road until I found decent sign. Got set up about 4 miles in and sat for the evening. Didn't see shit so I went back to the truck and curled up in my sleeping bag in back for the night. Forgot to put my phone back on airplane mode that night after checking for service so it died as I slept, alarm failed to go off, and I didn't end up waking up until the sun was up. Oh well, I knew a big front was moving in the coming night and was hoping that evening would be the most productive time anyway. Unknown to me, the forecast had changed and the front was coming in sooner than I had planned on. With about 2hrs left to hunt the sky turned grey and the temperature plummeted from the mid teens to well below zero. Shortly after it started snowing...HARD. I wasn't horribly concerned as the path I had taken in was a pretty easy hike so I sat until dark. By now the wind had picked up and by the time I got my hang on stand taken down the snow was a good 6" deep. It was snowing about as hard as I'd ever seen and the wind was now blowing hard enough that visibility was at best 10' with the snow and fog reflecting all the light from my headlamp back in my face. With the help of my compass I started walking west, doing my best to stick to the route I had taken in, but if I got off track I knew that once I found the road if it was angled SW then I needed to head S down the road and if it was angled NW I had to walk the road N as I had parked right at a bend in the road. In pretty short order I lost the easy path I had taken in and was left crawling under and crashing through brush, pine branches, and dense undergrowth....and shortly after that when reaching down to grab my compass that was clipped to my belt loop to reorient myself I had a slight moment of panic when I came up empty. Somehow, somewhere my compass had been torn from my belt loop and I had traveled some distance since I had last checked it. I backtracked until my boot prints were old enough that they were completely snowed over. Then I backtracked again, and again, and again... nothing. It was gone. I was fucked. After all that backtracking I hadn't the slightest clue what direction I was facing. The wind was constantly changing direction and swirling through the trees so that was of little help. I was under-dressed for the occasion with no survival gear and now drenched with sweat from moving too hard and fast looking for my compass. I did the only thing I could do, picked a direction and kept walking. Eventually I would have to hit something and any road or river to follow would be better than nothing. This isn't quite the wild west, you can't go much further than 10 miles before you hit a road in even the biggest expanses of forest, and the section I was hunting was about 7m x 5m so I wasn't exactly in fear for my life but I knew it was going to be a rough night all the same. I did my best to keep traveling in the same direction, unable to see much beyond my reach, and growing increasingly frustrated with how dense the forest was and how deep the snow was getting. Finally I hit a bit of a clearing, and this is where things got weird. Along the edge of the clearing was a fresh set of boot prints. I never actually inspected them to see if they matched mine or not because I knew I hadn't been to that clearing, and definitely had not been to any clearing recent enough that the prints would still look fresh...or even be visible for that matter. It did cause the hair on the back of my neck to stand some... mostly because I hadn't ever seen another hunter out in the woods here in my entire life...and late season bowhunting in this weather? No fucking way... by now it was almost 3hrs past shooting light also. But I figured stranger things had happened and hopefully I could catch up to whoever this was or at a minimum, he'd lead me to a road. Despite the tracks being as fresh as they were I never did catch up to whoever was making them. I followed them for what felt like about 3 miles until they hit a clearing and made a hard 90 to the left. Then I realized what this was, it wasn't a clearing but a snow covered road and the tracks had turned to walk down the road. I kept on following them down the road but as soon as I started they stopped. The tracks just disappeared... like the dude literally vanished or floated away. I looked around, there was no sign of him doubling back, no tracks going back into the forest, no tracks crossing the road, and not a single tire mark in the road. Now well past 3 hours lost, and even in my exhausted and increasingly worried state, I was still painfully aware of how odd the situation was. After a short search for any sign of the tracks picking back up or any sign of a vehicle I gave up. I didn't know what happened or how to explain it but I did know I was now dangerously cold and still lost, just lost on an untraveled road. I decided to keep on in the direction the boot prints had turned, just glad to have clear open ground to walk. Trudging along with my head now straight down and the weight of my gear pulling me further and further away from upright I made it about 1/2 mile or less before I damn near walked into a wall. Except it wasn't a wall, it was the ass end of my truck. I crawled in the bed of my truck, stripped my gear and wet clothes off, propped open the back window on the cap, fired up my propane heater and passed out for the night. The only logical explanation I can come up with is that someone else was parked along the road and I followed them out. They were parked on the other side of the road and for some reason the way the wind was blowing and the snow was falling completely covered their tracks on the road and along the West side of the road but didn't touch anything on the East side. I also know that my tracks on the East side of the road were getting filled in and blown over as I made them on my walk out...and I also saw the tracks I followed out disappearing before my eyes on the east side as I investigated the area when I first hit the road and the entire night the tracks I was making in the thickest part of the woods had also been filling in. Even so, there's no other explanation for it. Story 2: This one happened a few years later while on a hunting trip to Juneau County with my dad. I'll just preface this story with a couple of things. First, we've been hunting that area our entire lives. My dad grew up hunting it and owns 40 acres in the area and ever since I was old enough to tag along I've been hunting it. You could drop me out of a helicopter blindfolded anywhere in that area and I would know exactly where I was. Also I've been a bit of an outdoorsman my entire life. I feel very comfortable and at home in the woods. I get to my stand well before first light and don't leave until all daylight is gone. Being in the woods at night doesn't bother me in the slightest. Many, many years prior to this my dad had told me a story about a hunting experience he had. He was still hunting(slowly creeping around the woods, frequently stopping to sit for short periods of time, more like spot and stalk hunting than what we normally do in Wisconsin with blinds and treestands and all that) when he noticed some odd movement through the trees ahead of him. At first he thought it was a deer but after watching it for some time he realized that it was an object gently swinging back and forth with the wind. As he approached it he soon realized that although it wasn't a deer, it was in fact an animal. A black cat...strung to the tree by it's neck in a perfect hangman's noose and underneath it were rocks laid out in the shape of a pentagram. There was nothing more to the story other than it creeped him the fuck out and he unassed the area quick. Fast forward quite a few years and the woods has changed quite a bit. There are now ATV trails cut everywhere and the rotation of clearcutting by the paper companies has changed the landscape multiple times over. There was one trail in particular I liked to walk back and always hunted the east side of it. That day I decided to explore a new area and head west, probably the only section of woods I'd never been to. I walked for quite a ways through some unhuntably thick woods until I hit a clearing. A swamp with a few dry islands in the middle. Perfect...set my treestand up and settled in for the night. The one thing I couldn't figure out is how the fuck and why the fuck someone would drag a refridgerator to the middle of nowhere but there one sat at the edge of the swamp with not a path or ATV trail for at least a mile. I didn't see a single living thing all evening...not a god damn bird, not a squirrel, and definitely no deer. As the last hour approached though I still held out hope, the 'golden hour.' As the light started to fade though that hope faded with it and was replaced with, what the fuck...? Fear... Of what, I have no idea, but all of the sudden I felt very afraid and lost. I tried to shake it but couldn't. I'd never just randomly felt afraid of being in the woods before, ever, but I guess there's a first time for everything. As it got darker and darker the fear grew more and more intense. I began to question packing it in for the night and getting the fuck out of there but giving up any hunting opportunity goes against my religion. I tried to stick it out but soon it wasn't just fear, I felt as if something was physically pulling me out of my stand. I could sense that something was telling me that I wasn't welcome there anymore and I needed to leave...NOW. I've seen evil people, I've seen evil acts, but I've never had the feeling of pure evil completely consume me like that before. I could barely bring myself to look off into the woods in any direction for fear that I would see Satan himself standing in the distance, patiently waiting. For how long he would wait I didn't know but I was sure that if he was there and I ran out of time he was going to reach out, take hold, and drag me straight to hell. I would have felt silly and ridiculous for being afraid of some trees and a little dark but I didn't even have it in me anymore to see the humor in the situation, my mental state was now bordering on mild panic. I flew down from my stand, ripped all my shit off the tree as quickly as I could, and didn't even bother to pack it up correctly. I just piled it up in a tangled mess and cinched the straps around it as tight as I could and damn near ran out of the swamp. At one point I actually whispered to whatever the fuck it was "alright, alright I'm leaving." I got back to the ATV trail and turned toward the highway, now finally settling down some. A bit of the road I saw my dad's headlamp, never one to stay out late unlike me, and since he was hunting from the ground with no stand to take down, he was surprised to see me headed out of the woods so early. As we drew closer to eachother he saw the state of my treestand, with climbing sticks poking out every which way and straps dragging on the ground behind me. Then he saw the look on my face and asked, a bit amused, "Dude what the fuck happened to you? You look like you've seen a ghost." I told him the story, a bit embarrassed, and he was having a good laugh at my expense until I mentioned one little detail. The blue fridge. He stopped dead in his tracks, looked right at me with what I imagine is a very similar face to the one I had when he first saw me, and asked "Are you fucking with me right now?" "No you think I'd make this stupid shit up?" "But that fridge, you're sure?" "Yeah I'm fucking sure it was like 20 yards away from my stand..." "You remember that dead cat I found hanging in the tree years ago?" "Get out of here...now you're just fucking with me." "I wish I was... I really wish I was... but that's the same fucking spot that cat was hanging." Best I can figure it's just a creepy ass looking piece of woods and that's why some idiots picked it to hold their bullshit little ceremony years before, and it's the same reason it spooked me, but I've sat in plenty of creepy looking areas well past dark before and never have I ever been afraid, let alone flat out terrified like that. I still joke with my dad about hunting that spot again some day but I know I won't. I won't even hunt near it on the off chance I shoot something some day and have to trail it to that God forsaken swamp. I'm not much for believing in paranormal shit but I still can't make sense of what happened that night. Never an issue prior and never an issue since, but that night for some reason there was an issue... |

Mine are all weather-related...and very spiritual in one way or another. 1. Stepfather's burial service. Clear blue sky. The priest was doing the rite of committal, and as the coffin was being lowered, all of a sudden the sky darkened and the wind began to howl. Once finished, people began to walk away and the wind stopped and the sky turned blue again, as if there'd never been a cloud overhead. My brother and I felt like we'd experienced a soul rising to heaven. 2. Had a golf game scheduled with seven other guys. I woke up and looked at the weather channel, and all of central Florida was covered in rain. I called a couple of the guys and we agreed we'd meet at the course. It rained hard for the whole 45 minute trip there, and on the way I kept chanting, "It won't rain on us, it won't rain on us." At the course the radar on the TV showed rain all around us - except for a perfect circle around the golf course, so we decided to tee off. For the entire round we could see rain and hear occasional thunder all around, but it never rained on us - not a single drop. As we cleared the 18th green and got in our cars, the skies opened up, and it poured all the way home. 3. 1972, at a Pink Floyd concert in an outdoor stadium. About halfway through 'Dark Side of the Moon' a fierce storm blew in and they stopped the show. About 45 minutes later the rain stopped and band came back to the stage. They continued playing, and during the final song 'Eclipse', as they sang, "...and the sun is eclipsed by the moon", a perfect round hole opened up directly overhead, and the full moon shone through it, sending a bright moonbeam spotlight down from the heavens. I can still picture it as if it happened yesterday. |
| I enjoyed reading these. Talking to God always helped me get over any fear and remove myself from any bad situation. What I experience more often though, is seeing an incredible sunset or rocky coastline surrounded by an aqua ocean. I talk to God then, too. It seems like a great relationship. I thank him for all the good and he gives me strength from all of the bad. |

Quoted: Great stories, OP. Thanks for sharing. Thankfully, aside from the occasional "dead quiet", I've never experienced anything in the woods like that, but there's no place near me as remote as what you describe. Yeah, I love threads like this. I already rated it as Epic as I hope it does become. I have nothing to add unfortunately or maybe I should say fortunately. However I do love these type stories. Keep em coming. |

While walking the railroad tracks as a teen headed down to the river to do some squirrel hunting when I walked up upon a gray squirrel that had been cut neatly in half by a train. There was a skiff of snow on the ground and I could see where the squirrel came up over the bank and got on the track, it was not even crossing the track. I can't even fathom how a squirrel allowed a train to run it over. Add to that the trains that passed by there seldom went much more than a fast walking pace. Squirrel suicide? ![]() |

Great stories. Here's mine. I woke up with a horrible dream that the left front wheel of my Ranger came off while my then wife was driving and she and my daughter were killed. The very next night, they come home and the wife is telling me that the truck was making noises. I jump in and start it up. Sounds normal. I back up and it sounds weird. I take off and this terrible "whoop whomp" sounds amd speeds up with acceleration and stops after about 20mph. I stop and do it again. Then I get out and look at the front end. Both front wheels have loose lug nuts. Only 2 on the left front ( didn't even think to look when I jumped in) were still there and the holes in the wheel were all jacked. The other side was missing one and the rest were loose. Freaked me out. |

Once saw a man capture the likeness of Charlie Daniels in the clouds. Or some sort of celestial cowboy. Just hope those photos made it to Hannity like the good lord intended. For real though I’ve seen such weird shit over the years I’ve learned to expect pretty much the least likely things to happen, and that they usually have a pretty natural cause. Watched one of my earlier leaders get his entire lower jaw ripped off by a massive EFP. Saw him look down at it with his tongue flopping around, put the whole bottom jaw in his cargo pocket and started writing notes on a piece of paper on the gun truck hood for his driver to relay for him. After that he rode back to the outpost we were running out of, and he grabbed his backpack and walked out to where the medevac picked him up. A few months later we get back to the states and he was there waiting for us all, two all scars at the corner of each cheek but nothing that would indicate looking like a horror movie. Another teammate several years later, small IED set at shoulder level went off as we made entry to a compound. Little tiny piece of shrapnel (1/4 size of a dime) made a puncture in the same corner of his jawline as the first guy, and it was followed immediately by a wave of over pressure, forcing air into that small puncture. Dudes whole face puffed up and completely peeled away from the tissue so it just hung there like a bad mask. Kept having to scoot his face in place so it wouldn’t slide down and block his vision. Surreal to see them both just carry on with their roles almost unbothered. Once saw two very dead dudes we had pulled from a compound, several minutes later, do a weird half push up and start pumping their legs futuiously. Like an Olympic sprinter off the blocks, head lolling to the side absently while the body seemed like it was in a race against gravity. The first one made it about 15 steps and then belly flopped and stayed down. While we were triple checking that this was for sure a deceased fella, we hear a weird huffing sound. Runner number two, though very much dead, apparently sensed from beyond that this was his moment to make a break for it, because suddenly he’s off running in the same weird leaning forward way only in the opposite direction. He was in even worse shape than the first sprinter, so we were really shocked that he made it about twice as far before somersaulting into the mud and expiring for good. Based on the vials and used needles that were everywhere on that target, these dudes were on some next level opium and adrenaline that seemed to have evolved them into some sort of poultry person. Doing a leave-behind one night we saw something running across open ground like a cheetah, hit the 10’ wall on all fours, crawl up the smooth sides like a big lizard, and when it got to the top of the wall, it perched like a chimpanzee. Then it jumped from the top of the wall onto a rooftop and walked around on its hind legs like a person with knees that bent the wrong way before dropping down into the compound. Now, if you’re familiar with the big mean dogs a lot of the farmers keep in Afghanistan, you know they’re not afraid of much. One of them will try to fight anything and usually do a damn good job. This particular compound had six of them in the courtyard, and all of them started whining and yelping before this thing was halfway up the wall on the outside. Whatever it was killed all of them, tore apart a bunch of goats without eating any of them, and dragged a kid out of his bed before mauling the shit out of him and leaving him in the courtyard. We had both of the entries to that place under observation and didn’t see it leave, but it was gone by the time we made our way a few hundred yards over to try to help. The kid said he was attacked by a lion. I’m not much of an expert on big cats or lions in particular but it didn’t look or act like a lion to me. We flew the kid to J-Bad and he had to have extensive reconstruction work done on his legs and face but his story never changed, it was a lion to him. I’ve had three grenades thrown at me, and two RPGs fired at me, that landed or stuck into the dirt next to my feet and never went off. It’s more a testament to poor quality of Russian and Iranian munitions, but damn if it’s not a weird feeling anyway. |

Two events: The first, about 25 years ago backpacking up Mt. Mitchell in NC with my girlfriend. We set up camp about 2/3rds the way up the 1st night. There were thunderstorms rumbling down in the valley, but up on the mountain it was peaceful and calm. We were lying in the tent well after dark when a light passed over the top, like someone had shown a flashlight over it. I sat up and unzipped the rear window and we looked out to see these golfball sized orbs of greenish light drifting up the mountain all around us. Air currents were moving them around trees, bushes and our tent, however, it looked like they were moving on their own accord. Within a minute or two they had dissapeared up the mountain. Never seen anything like that before or since. Event 2: This one was even stranger. I was at my old family property in central WV about 12 years ago, deep in the mountains with no other neighbors around for at least a mile. I walked up the steep 1/8 mile long driveway to close and lock the gate, late in the evening. While I'm at the gate suddenly the darkness is swept away like the sun had suddenly appeared at its zenith. I look up and there is a pinpoint of brilliant white that the light is emanating from. There is no sound, it is not moving, it seems to just be hanging motionless and noiseless in the sky. After a few minutes it just winks out and I am totally engulfed in darkness again. I assumed it was a fireball that was on a straight down trajectory and got on a site that collects fireball sightings and reported it as such, however, there were no other reports of a fireball that night according to the site. I've never felt comfortable with the fireball theory, but is the only rational idea I could muster. |
| Not sure if it's what you were going for OP but I read both stories and felt like I got whiplash from the 180 degree turn I got from reading one story to the next. I'm one that believes in supernatural stuff so I was enthralled. I went from thinking you had an angel lead you to your car in your first story to believing you were a place of pure evil in your second story. I'm sitting here at work with a chill going up and down my spine having read it. |

One of the Ozzfests that Hubby and I went to had Type O Negative playing. It was at Coral Sky Amphitheatre, which had covered and open air seating. We had covered seating. During the TON set, they did a song that they dedicated to Ozzy (I don't remember what it was now). Half way through the song, a huge bolt of lightning lit up the sky. It was loud too. It scared a bat that had been in the rafters. It flew down and started flapping around the heads of everyone in our section. People are screaming and throwing their t-shirts they just bought at it. Pandemonium. Song finished, bat gone, sky is clear... we all looked at each other (a good thirty or so people) like WTF? and started laughing.

I need to to try to describe our property first so here goes. I live on one acre of land. Looking out the back of our house we have farm fields to the right side of our land, fields to the rear and the back half of the left side of our land is fields. The front half of the left side is our neighbors property and between our property and our neighbors is the old farm line, a ten ft wide patch of poison ivy, weeds and small shrubs that separated what used to be 2 farms. The fields surrounding me are planted in rows of either corn or alfalfa and each year they swap what's planted where. We have a deck on the back of our house and it has lilac bushes on the back and left side, so we cant see our neighbors property easily when on the deck. One summer night I happened to see a beautiful sunset through our back door and i walked out on the deck to admire it. As I stood there, watching the sun drop below the distant tree line I turned to go back inside but heard talking off towards our neighbors. It was two people talking in kind of whispers, like the words were indiscernible, like whispers but it was clearly 2 distinct voices. I positioned myself to get a view through the lilacs to see who would be out there, where the poison and thistles grow and I saw two white people standing in the farm field right where my land, my neighbors land and the field meet. WTF?! Is that my neighbors wearing white sheets? I stood there trying to get a better view for a few seconds and could clearly see two people but I could not understand why they were white, head to toe. So I walked to the steps at the back of our deck and walked down into our yard so I could get past the lilacs. As soon as i was in clear eye-shot i realized my eyes weren't decieving me. Two beings, completely white, were standing there talking to each other. They were tall, like 8 ft tall. They were humanlike in build but had no distinguishable characteristics. I stood there, staring at them when suddenly they both turned and stared at (faced) me. Instantly one of them ran off to the left, towards the front of our property and out of sight and the other ran down through the alfalfa field at an astonishing rate, and as it did, it let out the most evil sounding squelching shriek I've ever heard. It ran maybe 1/10 of a mile down the field in about 2 seconds and then stopped there but continued to make this evil constant howling/screeching noise. I stared at it and then it darted off to the right into a row of corn. Not being a complete pussy, I quickly ran inside and grabbed a flashlight, as it was getti g darkervand darker now, and my S&W Shield and went to where the 2 things were initially standing. There was no indication of anything physical breaking through the property line into my neighbors back yard. And the brush and thistles were way too thick and tall for a human to just speedily run through them. I walked down the field towards where the second thing entered the corn and as I got closer to that spot there was the most spine tingling howl I've ever heard. It was so loud that it seemed to come from all around me and it was unlike anything I've ever heard an Earthly creature make. The hair on my neck stood up and I became terrified. I pussed out and ran back home as fast as I could. I've never seen nor heard anything like that again. Anyone have any ideas? |
| I worked as a hospice nurse in an inpatient hospice unit. I saw a ton of stuff that I could not explain.I still don't know if it was paranormal or coincidence, but strange stuff. Things like call lights, room lights, temperature changes goiing on/off without anyone doing anything; patients knowing the names of patients who have previously passed in the unit; and other weird stuff. |

Quoted: Holy shit some tough mother fuckers. Glad to hear the first guy didn't end up looking like a monster. Do you know if the second guy made out as well? I've seem too many zombie movies. I would have lost my shit. Probably would have gave me a heart attack. I believe in all sorts of super natural shit. This would have fucked me up and left me shaken. Yeah they were both fine for the most part, definitely fine enough to have regular lives after that. The first guy went the warrant officer route a year or two after being medically cleared and the second guy stayed in for another 8 years and retired a few years ago. It was weird to see corpses reanimate lol but it wasn’t very scary. Just surprising. Not something I’ve seen more than that one time, not to such an extreme anyway, but it’s pretty normal when you have a collection point like that to see bodies do weird stuff. Noises, weird singing that sounds like some yokel playing jugs underwear, arms and legs doing the electric boogie or lunging straight up in the air only to collapse at their side again. Not sure if it was a perfect combination of what they had injected and how long it was working it’s way through their system before we slid down their chimneys like disappointing Santa. I want to believe in paranormal shit but again, the weirdest stuff has always had a pretty logical explanation. There was a weird little guy that no shit lived on a chain at the edge of the village his family was part of/prominent in. He looked like the mutant guy from 300, you know the hunchback dude? His family would let him off the chain and he’d scamper around the town eating chickens and shitting on stuff and howling, so his body was the least deformed part of whatever mess he had going on. They’d only let him loose a few times a month, maybe twice a week, then he’d tire himself out and come back and pass out jerking off in the little igloo looking mound he lived in. They’d come out and padlock his chain to his neck and life went on. Obviously he wasn’t the weird cheetah creature lol but in a world where that sort of stuff is unremarkable, who knows what sort of species of wolf or escaped pet or something might be roaming the fertile valleys. Some of those warlords and opium growers were absurdly rich, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if one of them had some exotic pet that he let go or that escaped. A feral chimp out there would be pretty much top of the food chain unless we shot it. |
I experience deja vu, far too frequently. My favorite deja vu, was in Kuwait, while catching lizards along the tree line at Kuwait International. Yeah, yeah GO1 blah blah blah ![]() Besides 6 months at Al-Udeid, which you can't mistake for Kuwait, I've never been to a desert nor caught 1-2ft long lizards prior. Deja vu hit, I stopped chasing lizards and climbed back in the truck. Told my Sgt that we should start driving to the far end of the fence line, BDOC is going to want us to do a sensor test and reset. He looked at me ![]() 5 seconds later and the call came over the net. Him: ![]() Me: ![]() This happens 3-4 times a year, doesn't really trip me out anymore. Best I can figure is that speculative prefetch has issues on occasion, in the simulation. ETA: also, spent plenty of time in the woods of Maine growing up. When the woods are dead silent, it's just creepy. |

I have a few, I think a lot of guys do who hunt alone in remote places. I was Muley hunting hopping canyons. Up one side and then look over the top onto the next ridge for awhile. Then down and up the other side then peek over the top onto the next. I dropped into one and in the bottom, a horrible place to camp btw, was an old Coleman lantern, a sleeping bag tattered from being there for years and assorted old canned food most no labels. I looked around and found some old clothes scattered in the bottom and a backpack that was pretty rotted and empty except for an old kbar knife, it was rusted wouldn't open. Then under some oak brush an old button up flannel and a little pile of human hair gray and Brown. I got pretty creeped out . Left every thing and went on. I called the sherriff when I got home. I explained about where it was. 4 miles inside this wilderness area. I believed 6 ridges over from barbed wire fence that is really the only land mark along the weekend people's trail to get in. No gps back then. I figured he would never find that place. Never heard another word about it. I doubt he looked it's steep as hell. I Hunted there a lot over next few years . I couldn't find it again. I'm pretty sure someone died there many years before. Or ?? ?? |
| Just recently working on the electrical for my remodel the Good Lord saved my bacon! I was changing out a breaker, super simple stuff. ID'd the wires, turned of the breaker, checked it with a meter to be sure it was dead, turned around picked up my screwdriver, turned back around and proceeded to stick it in a live 30A breaker right above the one I wanted. Had my left hand on the metal shank of the screwdriver and got at least one full turn of the screw before I realized my mistake. Pulled back and just stood there and stared, couldn't believe what a stupid rookie mistake I had just made but even more I couldn't understand how I wasn't dead or at least picking myself up after one hell of a shock! Thank you Lord Jesus! |

One day when I was a little kid I took a walk to the back side of our property. Close to a mile from the house and thick brush on either side of the two track dirt road. It was the middle of the day and I was a little tired so I layed down on my stomach in the soft sand of the road and played around in the dirt with a stick. Not sure how long I was there for but eventually I got that creepy "you're being watched" feeling. I didn't know what it was but something was telling me that was not a good place to be in and I'd better get moving. I got up and hadn't walked 50 yards when a coyote ran across the road seventy yards or so in front of me. I remember thinking oh so that's what it was. Still made me uneasy since I was unarmed. |

Quoted: So someone sacrificed a black cat and a blue fridge to Satan? Pretty weak offerings if you ask me. It’s practical really. Each cat offering will last a lot longer in the fridge. Sounds like a pain in the ass to get out there, so daily treks to the swamp for Satan snacks just doesn’t seem to be the most efficient way to do it. “Your sacrifice is packed for tomorrow Satan, it’s next to the lasagna, call if you need anything!” Blue sounds pretty tacky though. |

Quoted: No. I'm familiar with the stories though. I have had a time slippy/location change thing happen. Quoted: Quoted: Have you ever seen staircases in the woods? No. I'm familiar with the stories though. I have had a time slippy/location change thing happen. I started out from our cabin into a swamp across the road looking for blue berries. They don't grow big around there and aren't super sweet but they do have a strong flavor. So I'm slogging along not really looking where I was going but knowing all the same as I just kept to the swamp I would circle around it and come back to the cabin. Eventually I came to a huge blueberry bush and started picking. I had a paper bag and it was about 1/4 the way full when I heard a twig snap behind me. I stood still but strained my neck around to see a bear coming towards me and I damn near shit when I realized she had two fairly good sized cubs tagging along. Putting the bag under my arm I clapped once to make her aware of my presence and she fell into a dead run right for me. Almost out of instinct I darted behind a stand of small pines and tossed the bag into the path she would take if she continued. After throwing the bag I looked for an exit or high ground to try and evade the bear and made for a large rock outcropping. Seeing that the bear had stopped at the edge of the bush and was sniffing the air and I had gained a little distance I got the rock outcrop and beat feet into the woods surrounding the swamp. After going about 100yrds I slowed down and began to recognize where I was. I was still in a swamp, but it was the swamp behind the cabin and not the one across the road. I stood there dumbfounded as there's no way I had crossed the road and I certainly hadn't run far enough to get where I was from where I had started. When I got back to the cabin everyone was excited that they had seen a bear and her cubs cross the road nearby that came out of the swamp across the road and down into the swamp I just came out of. They wanted to know if I had saw it and thought I was loopy when I told them what had transpired. |

About 14 years ago our department was merged into another department at work. Shortly after we had a division meeting and the Deputy Director (female) announced she was going out on medical leave and someone else was assuming her responsibilities. As soon as she said this, I told myself she’s not coming back. Week and a half later we all got a call wile we were out in the field working for an emergency meeting of the division. I told my co-workers right there that Lori had died and she won’t be back. They laughed at me. In the meeting when the CIO announced that she had died, my co-workers all looked at me like they had seen a ghost. It freaked them out more than me. She had thrown a blood clot during healing after breast cancer surgery. |

Quoted: Once saw a man capture the likeness of Charlie Daniels in the clouds. Holy....fuck! |
| You’re a great storyteller, OP. I enjoyed reading these stories thoroughly. I think the thing both have in common that made them frightening or bizarre is that you were fully able to recognize the mundane explanations for them, but couldn’t discount more unusual or sinister explanations all the same. Ultimately I think the mind just fucks with us pretty hardcore sometimes. It’s much easier to say that in retrospect though. |

Damn I love threads like this. Reminds me of the sasquatch thread over in UFO and Creatures of Legend. The stories about odd sounds and the one guy who saw a bear pretty much running for its life through the forest. I'll he reading everything when I get the time |
| It was fall. I was struggling w/ some life decisions & needed to make a choice. I was sitting at a traffic light stressing over life. Suddenly, this guy racking leaves just looks up & locks eyes w/ me. He pointed up at the sky... I was in front of a church & he was pointing to the cross. I stared at the cross long enough for the guy behind me to beep. The man raking never looked back up from his pile of leaves. I did some praying that night. |

Like most, I have had several unexplainable events occur in my life. The one that actually helped me happened after my Dads funeral. Background my Dad was Native American and was a great believer in his animal sign which was a bear. We were on our way home from the funeral after taking my mother home. As we approached the intersection to get back on the Highway, a large (for Oklahoma), bear ambled out of the woods, stood erect next to the stop sign and I swear waved with his left paw. My Dad always waved with his left so his right was free. The feeling of peace, mixed with the awe and wonder was almost overwhelming. As we stared for what seemed like forever but I know was actually only 5 - 10 seconds, the bear growled, went back to all fours and headed back to the trees. Turned and looked back at us once and I know he grinned and headed into the woods. All grief and worry was lifted from me because I knew Dad was happy and at peace. He had let me know in the way he knew I would understand. |

Posted this on here a few times. South West VA. Clear night I saw 2 balls of light a ridge line over behind my place in the national forrest. No homes there. No road. Damned hill side was steep. These 2 lights were up on a ridge I figured coon hunters? No leaves up on the trees it was fall. Then the lights started running around up and down the ridge and chasing each other as f they were playing. I went in a got a rifle with a 12 power scope. Im watching these lights move around and I can see the ground under them. Theres nothing there. This was early 90s. It would be as if 2 drones were flying around with white spotlights on them a foot off the ground today. It went on a while. A friend that lived next door to me, I got him up come see this shit. We both watched this until they went down behind the ridge line. I tried every possible explanation. 2 dogs with lights strapped to them? No I can see the trees, I can see the ground. No animals. If it was something like that wheres the hunters light following his dogs??? Me and my friend both stood there like WTF? |

I think most of us have had a deja vu moment. Usually for me they are momentary and fuzzy. But I had one particular experience 45 years ago that was vivid, specific, and seemingly impossible. It is not earth shattering, but it sticks in my memory. I was stationed at Fort Bragg from '73-'77. On Sundays, it wasn't unusual to just hop in the car and go cruising the surrounding area of North Carolina. One Sunday, I had a couple of buddies in the car and we were headed into a direction that was new to us. Just as we were entering a small town, I got the deja vu feeling that I had done this before. In fact I knew what was around the corner of buildings up ahead. I said that once we get into town at the first red light, there is a Union 76 station that will be on the right. The view was hidden by buildings so I could not have gotten a glimpse. My buddies didn't know what I was talking about. In a minute, we entered town and a Union 76 gas station was exactly as I envisioned it. On the trip back, I checked the rearview for any billboards that would have alerted me. There were none. And I am positive I had never been to that town before then.

My ex always told me she and her mom were “sensitive to ‘feelings’”. She would have premonitions when we were dating and first married. She told me about the night after her Dad’s funeral about 7 pm, she and her sister were playing and her mom was in the tub. All the sudden the lights go out. No storm, no reason—and, all the neighbors lights were still on. After about 30 Sec to a minute, they came back on. Her mom didn’t seem concerned at all. Almost like she expected it. My wife always thought she knew it was a signal. CSB, right? Her mom’s funeral 12 years later. Same house, 7pm, house full of relatives. I’m standing in the kitchen talking to her half-sister (who knows the story above). Lights go out. About 30 Sec later, they come back on. Sister is doing the Buckwheat. Holy shit—she says “do you think...?”. I said yep. Just saying bye. Still gives me the chills. Much earlier in life—early HS, maybe, my friend and I were walking across a school playground at night just heading to his house. We heard this bicycle idling up behind us (the old 5 and 10-speed bikes made that fast clicking sound when you were just coasting). We both turned around to see who it was—no one was there. No where they could have gone. The playground had some lighting and was fenced. We BOTH did the Buckwheat and took off sprinting till we got to the street on the back side of the playground. We both knew what we heard. No mistake. Now, 3-4 years prior, one of our good friends had gotten killed riding with his brother on a motorcycle. At the time, he was the only one of our group that had a 5-speed bike. We wondered... TC |
