Some of my favorite vendors of ammo are sold out.  What's up with that?

The local dealers here aren't sold out - exactly.  But nobody has ANY .45ACP defensive ammo.  Lots of LRN and hardball surplus stuff, but not one box of hollowpoints to be found.

I guess the .45 must be the defensive handgun of choice in Tucson.

Definetly my choice. "Hydra-Shoks" and "Golden Sabre" Colt and Remington Rand .45's. Plenty ammo here in the "Bananna Republic" WalMart even has alot of Mini-14's in the rack.

Man, I went to the gun store this weekend and was it a madhouse.  People three and four deep at the counters, some raised voices - almost yelling - on the verge of desperation.  Tis an excellent time to stay home.

I'm just sitting here wondering who all these people think they're going to shoot?  Do they believe the fall of society is coming and they will have to defend against looters, or what?  It would be the height of fantasy to expect to get a terrorist in one's sights.

All the panic gun & ammo buying can only mean one thing:  Huge bargains for serious gun collectors next year.

Best advice that I can give is Stock Up Early.  I put off buying that stash of 223 ammo because I never really had the extra money.  The week of Sept. 11 I found the extra money and got lucky.  Cheaper Than Dirt still had cases of 223.  So you might want to check with them.

I don't think these people are Walter Mitty types (we already have our weapons!). More likely they have been knocked out of complacency, and realize that bad things can happen here. I doubt that they are buying with a specific senario in mind . . .

I performed "inventory" on Sunday. I am ok on everything except .40 S&W (plenty practice FMJ but only 61 rounds of Hydra Shok).

Only 2100 5.56mm (mostly Q3131A, some M855), think it'll be enough? [}:D]

Edited cause I am unable to do icons

Thinking of ordering 500rnds of Q3131a fromhttp://www.ammoman.com this friday.

I bought 5000 rounds of .22 LR last week -- but only because it was on sale for $6.90 a brick.  [:D]

I would not worry to much.
We just got in another load of the Q3131A and i have a purchase order for 1.2 million 223 South African in battle packs for delivery Nov 2
Wolf 223 HP should be here next week and we still have the Barnaul 223 in both grains.
Don't see too many problems out there from my end.

Are you going to get any of the M193 2000 headstamped ammo?

A friend who is a gunshop manager in Kali says that Federal has temporarily halted civilian ammo manufacture if favor of ramping up on NATO calibers.

He claims he's having trouble sourcing Federal Premium.

Jean-Claude,

I had heard that before, I had read that it was for handgun ammo. Apparently the military has no stockpile of 9mm FMJ.

But if we do get into a real shooting war, maybe I do need another case of Q3131A. If they stop selling 5.56mm to civilians then my 2100 rounds will be gone in 6 or 7 range visits.

ERIC!!!! PLEASE!!!

If the govt needs 9mm ball, I will gladly sell them my Winchester 9mm stash for what it cost me if the need arises.

If I stated how much ammo I have, I would be accused of having an arsenal, and Lockyer, Perata, and Feinscum would be at my door in 5 minutes with their CCW guns at the draw.

I picked up my first AK last week, and had to buy a couple thousand rounds of 7.62x39 to go with it. Just about everybody was out of stock so I went with Eric on Monday (he was a bit pricey this time around). 2K order Monday, delivered Tuesday.

Eric is still DA MAN!

I took that to mean you're kidding yourself if you think you'll ever have the chance to shoot a terrorist. Is that how you took it?

Trickshot,

If a terrorist wants to attack my house, then I will have him in my sights!

Otherwise, as a defenseless, unarmed serf in the PRK, maybe I could throw my cell phone at him if I was on BART (subway for non-Bay Area types) or at the office. Mostly I would keep my head down and pray. I have no Rambo fantasies, I just want to survive, and for my family to be safe.

My worry is not having to defend myself against a terrorist, but against the mobs IF civil order should break down. I am not a "tin hatter", I believe in being prepared. Hell, I have liberal friends in San Francisco, some of them (the good friends) have said they will come over if something happens. While they used to think I was a kook, now it isn't so amusing. Oh yeah, the kook bit was ONLY because I actually own firearms, something most have only seen on TV. If you prepare for the worst possible outcome, anything less is a cakewalk.

"(Newbies) are buying hi-cap rifles-- what do they need those for?"

Who knows, who cares?!  As long as they are well behaved and have good judgement, they will know who to shoot when (IF) the time comes.

Everytime some sort of "emergency" hits and people run out to buy assault rifles, I am thrilled--more political allies for ME.

The only rifles you guys *need* are the varietys *I* personally like.[sleep]

Maybe I should buy another 50 rounds of .22 and .38 so I would then have like 75 rounds of .22 and 65 rounds of .38. That should be enough.
