"Shelby American vice president Gary Patterson yesterday acknowledged, in an email to USA Today's Drive On, that the photos were in fact the result of photo manipulation."

Caught doctoring photos to make the car look meaner than it is

Other photoshops start rolling in.

Oh that's gotta be embarrassing.

All of the super models do it...
Link Posted: 3/28/2012 6:40:21 AM EDT
They actually had to photoshop the car down, it was about 4'' higher in the front end

right?

they could have done a better job

Gee, dishonesty in the car world? What's this world coming to?

Even when it does wheelies, the front suspension stays loaded!

i don't care if they shopped it or not. a thousand HP mustang is a thousand HP mustang.

I would say they excel at building engines, not photochops, but the pics aren't real.

Before they had photochop they used jack stands and air brushed them out.

Been going on for at least twenty years, most likely much longer.

If they're really putting 1,000 HP out of that thing (at the flywheel or rear wheels...doesn't matter which, really) and it's really fast as a result, you'd think they'd put that sucker on a drag strip and show it monstering the 1/4 mile with some insane time. Or they'd show it ripping the tires off the rim driving around the track.

Can a Mustang that isn't a dedicated drag car even handle 1,000 HP in any useful way?

Somehow I'm thinking that this is just another absurd entry in an absurd run to get a higher HP figure out there because you're hoping to sell to suckers. Shelby Inc seems to be jumping the shark.

Maybe that's just my perception.

Maybe it's 1000hp at 9,500rpm? If so, they're getting close to the level of most "turbo hondas".......in japan.

Well, the one that they showed the media, probably not. My ASSumption is that they needed something to show, and they didn't have any complete cars ready. So somebody said "Fuck it, just bring a car that has the wheels and body shit done to it, we will impress the press with that."

The automotive press has a very very long history of publishing bullshit to make manufacturers happy, they figured they could get away with it. Without the bullshit Photoshop they would have.

If it doesn't live up to the hype it would be extremely embarrassing.

1,100 HP with race fuel, eh? That would make for a very interesting morning commute! Now, if I could just scrape up $200,000 for a Mustang ($150k for the upgrade and $50k for the base car).
Link Posted: 3/28/2012 7:14:50 AM EDT
A limited production of Shelby 1000s will be built, each numbered and documented. The post-title package for the Shelby 1000 starts at $149,995, not including the base GT500. A completed Shelby 1000 is expected to be approximately $200,000.

...but can the motor take a whole lot of that without exploding?

That's the thing about all those "turbo hondas"...they blow those suckers up pretty regularly. Strapping 1,000 HP worth of boost to a motor that's originally designed to handle 500 at the most doesn't always work out so good.

I was just poking fun at all the claims made by the "turbo honda" drivers....you know the cars that are NOT tube-frame fiberglass-bodied dedicated drag cars (that happen to have a larger motor than ever came in any honda). The 9 sec. 1/4 and 900hp claims fly about all the time.

Motor will be fine if it's done right. I've helped get numbers like that out of mod motors in the past with good and lasting results.

ETA: That said, this car is stupid. Too expensive, and too useless.

If photoshop is good enough for our President, then it's good enough for a lousy Mustang.

Link Posted: 3/28/2012 7:20:39 AM EDT
I like it as I do just about all Mustangs, but those rear tires don't look like they could do much with 1,000 hp. Seems to me that this thing would just make a lot of smoke anytime you wanted to really use all that power.

Yes, if you build it properly.

Chevrolets' LSX is rated to 2500hp.

Whether or not the drivetrain can withstand the abuse of a "wheelie" on launching is another matter, however.

I don't know much about him except it seems I remember he stuck it to Enzo a little way back when, so I'm asking because I don't know the answer: were you being sarcastic?

I'd love it if they made an afordable car that got 30mpg and could run 12's with tweaking again.

That's a pretty easy shop to pick up on. No car lifts the front end off the ground no matter the traction/horsepower and still has the front suspension compressed.

My dog insisted on using Gimp instead of Photoshop.

So naturally I had him put down.

I had to do the same thing to an intern that insisted on using CorelDraw. Poor Timmy, he had such a bright future...

Thats because the 4v motors (especially the 03/04 cobra motors) are built like tanks.

The heads flow like a champ, bottom end is solid, and hellion already made a turbo kit back in 05/06 to put a turbo on a stock 03/04 cobra and make 1000hp

Call me crazy, but if I had $200K to blow on a car, it's not gonna be a mustang, even if it has Shelby's name on it.

BAM, no photoshop needed.

You're right. Anyone who buys one of these most likely has millions of dollars to spend on cars. They are just getting this one because it's a new addition to the collection. I mean, how many damn Ferraris can one collector own? I'd buy a $200K Mustang just to say I did it.
