Mid-Life Crisis? I just turned 59 last week. I've owned a number of sports cars, a Porsche 911, a few Vettes, even an NXS. Never a motorcycle. I'm just infatuated with the look of a Road King w/hard saddlebags.
I'm married so this would be a nice weekend fun toy we can both enjoy. |

Best model hd builds in my opinion. You won't regret owning one. Get a 10 or newer.

Interested in a 2005 Police RoadKing with hardly any miles? It's all set for escort work. Siren, air horn, rear blue & red wig-wags on the radio box, mustang pillion pad, anti-wobble fixture on engine, etc....

OP, I'm a lifelong motorcyclist. I'm thinking if you made it this far without owning one, you can make it the rest of the way without owning one. Everybody likes the idea of owning a bike, it's the reality of owning a bike that some people have problems with. Get some training, then get some more training. Get a small cheap used bike and learn how to ride before you get a large motorcycle.

i wanted an older one not a fan of the twin cam , bought mine a few years ago .watched craigslist for quite awhile saving money got a 1997 with 5000 miles for 7500 cash , took it out to Sturgis\Yellowstone and all over Michigan I love mine

I loved my RK and rode it to work almost every day. I broke down and got an Ultra Limited a couple years ago since I had to have all the 'gadgets' as I got older. The RK was a smooth ride and just a pleasure to be on.
BTW, I've owned just about every make and style of bike... The Axis trio (Jap, Italian, German), Allied (Brit), and even a couple of Commie bikes. Dirt, tour, cruiser, go-fast, and 'all the above in one'. The RK was my first HD and put a big smile on my face. |

The RK is the only HD product I'd consider, but I can't make myself buy a cruiser and the lifestylers have ruined the brand for me.

Pre-2008 if you want to work on it yourself. After that, you're more tightly bound to the dealer's networked diagnostics equipment.
Gen 1 Twin Cam is what I'd go after. Take it up to 95" or 103", install cam drive and compensator sprocket reliability upgrades...maybe a 6-speed transmission if you have everything out of the frame. Then add a chassis stiffener and go have fun. |

There's definitely something aesthetically pleasing to me about a dropped bagger with a big (26"-32") front tire. I think it just reminds me of the Big Wheel I was never allowed to have as a kid.

I just did 5177 miles in 13 days on my '96 FLHR. It's got over 80K on it and little electronic crap to fool with. Evo motors can be rebuilt damned-near infinitely so when that time comes that's what I'll do instead of a new bike.
It's never left me stranded in all these years. With regular maintenence it is as dependable as I could ever ask a machine to be. |

Rode my road king to work this morning.
Get a 2003 and later with fuel injection. Or a 2009 and later for the improved non death wobble frame. Take the class.

My first road bike was and still is a 2003 RK police. They're heavy pigs but fun to ride. I really don't like road bikes at all, prefer dirtbiking in the woods, but they're great bikes

Take the MSF, and then buy what you want.
The wife and I both ride. Neither of us had ridden much since dirt bikes in high school. But we decided to jump back in. Bought a Dyna Wide Glide, which we both enjoyed. But that back pillion wasn’t cutting it for date night. With work and kids, two bikes just didn’t make fiscal sense. So we traded the Wide Glide in on a Road King last weekend. She rode it in to work Monday, and said she's in love. I'm pretty happy with it, too.  Attached FileDo it, OP! |
