Well I messed up last night. My BUILDTHEWALL-10 lower has been a side project off and on for the past year. Couldn’t figure out the direction I wanted to go, thinking truck gun, SBR maybe. My issue was with the roll mark, very clean /sharp, but wasn’t quite cut deep enough to color fill well (tried 2-3 times). Instead of leaving it alone, I thought, “Man you drew the thing, just touch it up”. So I set to work with some loops and a tiny Dremel diamond bit. Going great until the Dremel bit does what Dremel bits always do, skipped off the line gouging across the magwell. Deep, very noticeable, tried to fix it, made it worse. Totally sucks, this lower had the perfect serial number (DJT-0045).  So today, I am attempting to fix my fix. Wish me luck. |

Ended up machining off a good portion of each side. Not perfect but I think I can salvage the build. Today hasn't been my day either. I wanted the top receiver to match the lower, so I started on it as well. Big old DMPS slick side. Messed that up also, So now the build is gonna be a side charger. Two things. First, PSA anodizing is legit. It took me forever to get the finish blasted down using new 100 grit Aluminum Oxide at 70psi. And second, what does the hive think about a topographic pattern for camo? I've only ever seen it on the Aero special edition sets, in black on black, and a pistol. Was thinking about adding a ton of topo layer lines to hide some blems. Shoot it in armor black, tape the hell out of it, then apply subtle faded camo in FDE, Coyote tan, maybe a touch of OD green. Sort of a desert theme, earth tone Texas boarder colors. Attached File |

Not sure what to do at this point. But as this is a side charger, I want/need a functional bolt catch. |

I'm learning this the hard way. I shaved the front pin rounded side flat at one spot to make it work, not too bad. Any AR-10 mag catch will work, but you've gotta cut off about 3-4 threads on the threaded end (too long), then you are GTG and it will not over extend. The bolt catch I'm not gonna be able to "hack". will need to order one from PSA. Found it online at PSA in stock for 10 bucks, shipping is 9 bucks, so $20 with tax. Not cheap, but a much better option than a non functional bolt catch. |
