Uh 275 aint gonna cut it, even if they are special forces this seems dangerous. Our guys can't even trust the regular iraqis. I'm pretty sure many of the Iraqi police/military are changing sides right now. Maybe he wants them to be hostages so we can trade them for the rest of gitmo.

I've never been in the military.

I don't pretend to know a lot about the military.

However, I just can't see 275 guys being able to make a difference against thousands of militants. Even as advisers. Training the locals has proven retarded in the past, so why try that again?

Fox is reporting that ISIS captured a bunch of US made Stinger MANPADS from the Iraqi Army. That could make air support and embassy evac dicey. Just imagine a plane load of embassy personnel or a commercial airliner gets shot down with weapons we provided to the IA.
