The thread about not having an ignore list makes me think there is a feature that would be useful for sorting out where people are coming from and the quality of posts made.
The idea would be to have a set of categories, either preset or perhaps customizable, that would allow a member to place posters in that category. For example, it's pretty obvious there are gray propagandists here who create mischief by injecting as much doubt and disagreement as possible into any discussion about liberty or which public figures have merit. If you spotted a poster making such a post you could begin categorizing them into various buckets, so that next time you saw their posts you could begin to detect patterns and call them on shenanigans. Example categories could be: --argumentative obvious libtard --stealth libtard --potential master libtard propagandist --conspiracy whacko --narrow-minded tow-the-line dolt --sicko --JBT ...and so on. The feature could be further enhanced with some sort of "save as example" feature that let you review why you placed the poster into that category. Criticisms? |

Your overthinking this whole thing! I come here for entertainment! If I have to start grouping and categorizing posters the entertainment is long gone! I get as much entertainment out of the posters I dont agree with as the ones I do agree with maybe even more so!

Your suggestion and thought process is a symptom of a huge problem that's been slowly degrading this place since '08-'09. What huge problem are you referring to? I'm thinking, as one example, of the posters who dwell on minor faults with every potential candidate for office and whose mission appears to be sowing dissention in everything. Would be nice to at least have a tool to identify who the DU trolls are, who is inconsistently and continuously negative, and who is just a tard. |

Being able to set a "No EE" flag would be genuinely useful. Other categories would certainly be entertaining, but I predict a lot of butthurt. Much of GD has a hard enough time reading and understanding posts in real time, let alone flagging shit they misunderstand so they can remember it later.

So what you're doing right here would be a good example of someone who mischaracterizes others and sows dissent based on falsehoods. |

I've often considered making a greasemonkey script which would allow you to do that kind of thing. Never done it before, though, so the scope of what I'd be trying to do is a bit daunting.

Why not a simple upvote or downvote button? Some of the sites I visit have them and it is easy to tell the quality of the poster by his up/down ratio.

There are the police, the anti's, the firemen, the libertarians, the republicans etc. I think things would even out. |
