 Ammo was said "LC 72" on the case  It turned the inside of the 240 orange. But, the 240b ate it like Rosie O Donell at a buffet. In 400 rounds there was one FTF, it appeared as though the primer was hit weaker than normal, I didn't think to try to shoot it again... |

my 240 will eat pretty much anything as well. its got to be my favorite issue weapon.
i used to hate it the most during cleaning time with the stupid scraper, but my dremel with a wire brush takes the carbon off the piston in no time. |

The 240 is a damn fine weapon if not the finest! A little heavy but a solid piece of work. I saw a picture posted once of a Swedish M240 that was shortend on both ends and very compact. Very sexy!!!!
I am suprised it took the US military as long as it did to start deploying this weapon system in it's current role. Back in 1990, we used them on our LAVs while the M60E3 was still used as the infantry GPMG. Even then we wondered why they did not use the 240 for that role as it was a superior weapon system. Not at all. the M240 is known around the world as theFN MAG 58. Its been around nearly 50 years, but we were too stuck on the M60 to adopt it. |

I'm wondering how the weight of that M240E6 is. The titanium receiver one.
Am I the only one who sees the M240 and thinks it should be mounted on a steadicam harness with autotracking?

Not sure but that would possibly solve the only negative aspect of the M240 system...weight. Now the use of titanium may effect the cost of the individual M240s and could produce another problem but it would be well worth the money. Click To See The M60E4 In Action RIA M60-E4 |

Nope a reference to the M-60 FN got it right with the MAG in 58 It took four decades to get the 60 right. |

Any why it took 40 years I have know idea!!!! The fixes were so simple. The adoption of the 240 put the final nail in the coffin on the M60 regardless of what they improved on it plus the 240 is a superior design. I know the SEALS are still using them (MK43) until the MK48s are finally ready to be deployed but I have yet to hear any data on them regarding issue or reliability. +1 on all the 240 comments. Only complaint I've ever heard is the weight.
My unit just got close to 50 of them brand new in the crate. Walked by the arms room and did one of these:  It's going to suck when they detail us all out to clean the shipping grease from them. On the other hand when do you get to see that many brand spanking new machine guns coming out of their crates? |

The military is short on ammo.............
Yet they have 30+ year old ammo that they have had in storage.............. Not to mention the reports of WW-II .50 BMG being issued. It seems they have more of a problame managing the ammo than actually running low on it. |

Gratuitous 240b goodness. Mine would have had an M145 on it but the armorer was literally too lazy to put it on there (easy to attach as an M68) so instead of zeroing my M145 which was the purpose of the range...such is life in Korea. I just shot it with iron sights which were dead on...fun either way.

You know it's a good idea. I honestly wonder if anyone has ever tried that though. Got access to a SteadiCam (difficult access though, not easy). If I had access to an M240 as well, I would so try to rig something usable up. |

Know what I hated about Casey? The smell from that river/sewage plant by the golf course. We used to run across that bridge when we dig PT for SGT's Time. It's hard to run when you wanna barf.

Ahh. My experience with the 240 is on the Bradley as the coax only...and even then, it was very simple.
I have seen '60s and they are definitely sexier in appearance, but they look like they are a bitch to disassemble. |

I was a 2-4-T-B gunner for 2 years the first thing i did to it was get rid of the heat shields second was to put KAC VFG on my side rail (ALIENS STYLE) i carry with out a sling most of the time. it wasnt long before everyone 240B gunner in the battalion wanted a gangsta grip.
In Iraq this time last year my ammo looked like that in about 3 day in i left it on the M1114. i have a love hate love thing with that weapon i hated but i didnt want to give it up!!!! |

Korea ->  Between the sewage plant on the flight line (right next to where we did our STT classes in the summer), to the pig farm on the run/road-march route, to that 'Korea Smell'.... Casey is probably worse - although only for the E-7 and above who'd be able to drive cars if they were down here (Hey - you will let a SPC fly a government-owned Cessna 172 all over Korea, but a CAR? Why that would be unthinkable!)... Ah well, all of Area I is moving down here eventually - and the dumbshit will probably come with it - but I'll be elsewhere (and hopefully not coming back)... So I don't really care... The ROK is definately a place to hold your nose... I have no idea how they can get ANYONE to AIP (well, Avoid Iraq - but there can't be that many of 'em)... DEROS 13 Mar... Good riddance... |

Fabrique National MAG-58 The M240B's parent weapon was around/in development (IIRC) when the '60 was adopted... But just like the M-14, we had to have a 'home grown' weapon... We came around eventually... |

yup, we still have a 240 assigned to us that has a friggin right side feed mechanism and wont even fit in the mount. its awesome when you find 2404's on it from years before you got to the unit detailing the same problem.... |

You would be surprised at what is still in storage. In Jan of 01, a whole 9 months prior to our realizing we were in a GWOT, I drew a whole pallet of 762 from the ASP at Bragg. It was late 67 dated ammo, the pallet was marked "FWD to 3d Brigade, 82d Airborne Div, Saigon, RVN" The pallet was donated to the 82d Museum later that day. |

That is totally unsat. You need to get your chain on this one, it has gone on too long. Make copies of the 2404's and type a memorandum detaling the problem and what it will take to fix it. Get your Section SGT to pass it to the Top so he can give it to the Company Commander. CC the Supply SGT for your Company as well. |
