WSJ article Truzman references Iran launched a missile attack against a U.S. Navy ship on Monday after firing ballistic missiles at an aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer over the weekend, according to U.S. officials. The Wall Street Journal earlier reported the Monday attack. Iran warned the crews of tankers at ports in Bahrain and Kuwait to abandon their vessels, signaling it planned to attack commercial vessels in those locations, according to Iran’s state media. No American warships were struck in Iran’s missile attacks, but Iran’s recent attempts to hit American naval assets are raising alarm over whether the government is using more sophisticated weapons or receiving assistance from China or Russia, according to the officials. The attacks highlight Iran’s willingness to go on the offensive as the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports weighs on the country’s economy. They also risk escalating the conflict, since the U.S. has promised to take action against such attacks. After Iran’s attempt to hit an aircraft carrier over the weekend, the U.S. struck three Iranian oil tankers that it said were funding Iran’s military and proxy groups. The tanker attacks were designed to send a powerful message that the U.S. won’t tolerate attacks on Navy ships, officials said. One day later, Iran took aim at another warship. Iranian officials have claimed they are using new missiles with advanced features to target the American warships, according to Iran’s state media. Such missiles could have electro-optical seekers, which enable them to maneuver toward a moving target using imagery, weapons analysts say. However, Iran would still need to know the approximate location of U.S. warships when its attacks began, raising concerns that China and Russia could be helping Iran track the locations of American warships, officials said. The fact that Iran is able to target warships at all after the U.S. degraded its ability to see the battlefield is a key concern, according to retired Vice Adm. John “Fozzie” Miller, who commanded U.S. naval forces in the Middle East. “They don’t really have the capacity to reach out and find someone out in the Arabian Sea on radar any longer,” he said. In May, the U.S. sanctioned China-based entities for providing satellite imagery to Iran during the war. President Trump has so far played down concerns about China and Russia’s assistance to Iran. Iran unveiled a medium-range ballistic missile known as the Qassem Bassir with the seeker technology last year, according to John Caves, senior research associate at the Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control. Other Iranian missiles, like the Khalij Fars, also have the technology, he said. U.S. officials hope that the blockade and crushing sanctions will bring the Iranian regime to its knees, but so far, the regime has refused to back down and is stepping up threats against U.S. Navy vessels. The U.S. has 19 warships supporting operations in the Middle East, according to a Navy official. By striking tankers, the U.S. aims to further punish Tehran and crack down on the regime’s ability to ship oil and fund its weapons programs. While civilian ships aren’t typically lawful targets, they lose their protected status if they contribute to an adversary’s military action and if destroying them offers a definite military advantage, according to Mark Nevitt, associate professor of law at Emory Law School. “Whether this test has been satisfied ultimately depends on the intelligence linking the oil financing to proxies and other factual matters—something that is acknowledged in the DOD’s own law of war manual,” Nevitt said.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers, Sept. 8, after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over the past two days. The U.S. warship successfully evaded the attempted Iranian attacks and continued to patrol regional waters. No American personnel were harmed. In response to Iran’s most recent failed attacks, CENTCOM destroyed the IRGC crude oil carriers M/T Kaviz, M/T Charminar, M/T Horizon 1, and M/T Riesco in the Gulf of Oman as well as M/T Derya near Kharg Island. American forces directed the crews to abandon ship before the vessels were struck and rendered inoperable. Iran has used the tankers as part of a multibillion-dollar shadow network that funds the IRGC and its regional proxies. Iran has no means by which to defend these vessels. On Sept. 5, CENTCOM forces destroyed three Iranian crude oil carriers after the IRGC tried to attack a U.S. aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer. All IRGC attempts against U.S. Navy warships have failed. |

IRGC statement regarding tonight’s ballistic missile attack: “By the special grace of God Almighty and under the guidance of Imam Mahdi, as retribution for the U.S. regime’s aggressive attack on Iranian oil tankers, the valiant and fearless warriors of the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, in a retaliatory operation codenamed “Ya Haydar Karar,” subjected the U.S. Al-Azraq base in Jordan to heavy missile strikes. In this operation, solid-and liquid-fuel ballistic missiles were used to strike the maintenance, preparation, and storage facilities for F-35, F-16, and F-15 fighter jets, as well as fighter jet shelters, inflicting heavy damage on the arrogant enemy.“
UPDATE: Additionally, the IRGC claims its anti-ship ballistic missiles struck two US Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyers: - USS Delbert D. Black (DDG-119) guided-missile destroyer. - USS John Paul Jones (DDG-53) guided-missile destroyer. The attack reportedly “inflicted significant damage on these vessels”. Take these reports with caution. |

Gas was supposed to be $10 a gallon months ago… the SPR empty… world economic collapse… No oil flowing at all. Yeah, and now the concern posters have to rely upon bullshit claims of massive price increases that I’m simply not seeing. YES, it is more expensive. NO, it is not as expensive as under Biden. I survived that while making 1/3 of what I’m making now. Honestly, I don’t really notice it and my wife and I are the definition of middle class, or as most here would say… the Poors. And yeah, if this rights a sinking ship of five decades of failed foreign and energy policy, I’ll smile as I pay it. This shit wasn’t going to correct itself and it is not going to be without pain. Those people who would forego security and long-term stability for temporary cheap gas are the very people who got us into this shit show where we are dependent on cheap foreign oil and foreign goods that stop being cheap when nations who hate us get froggy. Here’s a clue… if there is a BJ’s. Sam’s, or Costco near you the membership will more than pay for itself in gas savings. 93 Octane today at Costco was $4.62 and I get 5% back using the Costco card - so $4.40 per gallon. The average price for premium around here (typically only 91 octane) is $4.55 to $4.71. In 2022 the price for regular gas in Albany hit above $5. So four years later, and despite a war, I’m paying significantly less and there is an actual end goal in sight of changing the petroleum power dynamic in the world. |

Ironically it was China’s actions that helped oil prices, they having reduced oil imports to a level we didn’t think possible during the first months of the war. They’ve now started importing again though so I’d expect more pressure on pricing coming. |
|
Why can't we word our statements / tweets like the IRGC do? "The almighty God in heaven watched over and guided our strikes on the oil tankers this evening" "The glory of God has filled our hearts as all incoming attacks were swatted from the sky" Get creative and throw it right back at them.

Diesel is higher now than under Biden. And it going up. And it's a more important metric than gasoline. I think the administration is lying to you. And I don't think they have a legitimate plan. Hopefully I'm wrong. |

According to the media we've been "almost out" of Patriots since the end of 2022. ![]() Maybe they'll get it right eventually... Or maybe we've been secretly cranking them out at record speed for the last four years. Making the enemy believe you're almost out of munitions is powerful weapon all by itself. |
