I can never remember the red-yellow-black rhyme the right way.
How does that rhyme go?
Red next to yellow--kill a fellow. (coral snake) Red next to black--venom lack (king snake) ...something like that. |
Coral snakes are awfully timid. You weren't in any danger... they have to chew and chew, IF they bite you, to get the poison into your body.
Of course, if it gets there, you're fucked. |
Is that a pic of the actual snake? I would be surprised if you had a camera on you but no CW.
That's basically it. Also, black nose is coral snake; red nose is scarlet king snake. |
Just a good picture I found on the net. The rhyme I learned is: Red on yellow; kill a fellow. Red on black; venom lack. |
If red touches yellow, you're a dead fellow.
If red touches black, you're okay Jack. |
If the ground hits my back, I had a heart attack.... |
if Chewbacca is a wookie, then you must aquit.
Think that's how it went on that Sat Night Live spoof, or was it Southpark...I forget. |
I think that was on south park! |
Yep, coral snakes are rear fanged. They have to chew on you for it to inject its venom. Thats why most of there victims are young children who where playing with it.
OR Red touches Black-Your OK jack, Red touches Yellow-Your a dead fellow |
No need to kill that snake you were in no danger unless you picked it up - walk around it and leave it be. Now if you have young kids who might play with it and it is near the house that is a different story. But, a shovel would work better than a handgun to dispatch it.
I agree, most snakes are not a threat to humans, only rats, and other small rodents.
It must be that time of the season.
I saw one yesterday on my way out to my truck. I pretended that his head was a cigar butt and went on about my business. Glad you're ok! |
The rhyme I was taught is: If it moves toward you, kill it!!! It's a pretty universal policy. |
yellow on red, kills you dead.
I knew a guy that used to catch them and sell them to researchers at the local university. You left $50 on the ground |
When I was a small boy I killed a lot of snakes with rocks. They are still effective if you find yourself without a firearm. |
Why even bother toting a gun? Strong language and spittle would do more damage most of the time. -Troy |

Aw man, that's just mean..... |
What can I say, I believed the hype. |
What? You're saying that Glasers aren't the nukes of handgun ammo?? Seriously, what's the story, been a long time since my Combat Handguns sub went out. |
Red on yellow kills a fellow. Red on black, you're OK jack! |
Read www.ammo-oracle.com to learn about how bullets wound, what type of wounds are desirable for combat, and what the optimal performance parameters are. Then read Better performing self defense loads: Various calibers for a pretty thorough discussion of the types of loads you should be looking for in various calibers, and why. If you have any questions after that, ask and I'll try to answer/reference them for you. -Troy |

See a snake, kill it with a rake If it's a copperhead, shoot it dead saw a boa, ran it ova' |
That's the way I learned it. |

If I see a snake that I'm not SURE is a harmless garter snake, coral snake, ringneck snake, or indigo snake, it's sure to die.
But I almost never see any snakes at all. Rattlers and coral snakes aren't very common in the 'burbs on the beachside in Florida. CJ |
Sorry you missed your chance to draw down on a snake.
A Pre-ban STICK is all you need. Pointy or otherwise. Just whack it a few times. Why would you even want to waste your uber-expensive Glaser ammo on a snake, anyway? You are higher on th food chain, right? Break it's spine, skin it, cook it and eat it. Sheesh Iknow, I know,- Dupe reply. Brushdog beat me to it. |
no no no it's like this;
Red and Yellow, Kill a fellow Red and Black, Friend of Jack. followed closely by; When in doubt, BAIL OUT! |
These are my snake ryhmes:
When in doubt, shoot it out. or Kill em all, let God sort em out. |
LOL!
You don't need CCW for a Coral Snake. Just, um, step over it - ? CMOS |
You need a gun to kill a coral snake? They are only 1.5ft long and about as calm and docile as any non poisonous snake.
