"As far back as I could remember,I always wanted to be a gangster"
Goodfellas just came on,(one of the few I havent got on video,so I scramble for the TIVO!) and I was wondering........if you could pick one gangster's life to live out, except for the violent end, WHO WOULD YOU BE ??? a Corleone? Tony Montana? a Soprano? Al Capone? Who? |
Now Im not advocating the gangster lifestyle( especially with vivid recolections of the end of Casino and Joe Pesci's intimate knowledge of a baseball bat), Im wondering about the PRE-violent endings. Hey........its good to wonder about something besides zombies. |

James Cagney - "White Heat"
"Look Ma, I'm on top of the world!!" Can't get any better than that. Eric |
Classic!! |
Hollywood makes organized crime look like fun, I have a problem with that. I'm sure not all of them have violent endings and not all of them end up rich either. I think Goodfellas is a decent depiction overall in that era of organized crime. |

Let's see.........Tony had it awful rough for the first 26 years or so. The next two damn near got him killed constantly. And his life was falling apart almost as soon as he got situated.
Go Corleone/Andolini. Not Sonny, not Fredo. Tom Hagen. Smart, strong, vital to and a member of the family. |
Whitey Bulger! |
another for Cagney! That man was the straight heat! No one that is NO ONE even comes close to portraying the old 20's gangsters.
I was thinking more of Donnie"the rat bastard" Brasco You guys heard of him? |
And "Whitey" Bulger is currently the reigning hide & seek champion in real life.
When a lower level mob goon is dragged in by the feds, they spill their guts about burying dead bodies in the berms at ... crap, forgot which gun club and I don't want to say the wrong one. Let's just say their berms get moved around every month. |

My great aunt was picked up by Al Capone once. She said he wasn't all that special.
As far as Hollyweird gangstas, I would be Frank Sinatra and have fun with the Rat Pack. CW |
He was the 'heavy' in Key Largo too, wasnt he? |
Tommy Udo...........you know what I do with squealers ? hehehehehe |
bleah bleah its curtains for you shee? bleah bleah.....of course how could I foget him.....OK so Cagney and Edward G. |
Absolutely the best… |
Now there's a pair of actors that were actors. They definitely don't make them like that anymore. And I nominate as the 3rd best. Richard Widmark - How can you forget the scene in Kiss of Death where he pushes the little old lady in the wheelchair down the stairs and giggles while doing it |
Clyde!!!!! Got to do his thing AND had a woman to do it with.
Yep.....That would be Tommy Udo [which I beleive was Richard Widmarks first roll] |
And was bisexual who liked threeways with other dudes... |
Tony Montana was the toughest. "I TAKE YOUR FUCKIN' BULLETTS!!!!!!!"
Michael Corleone was the smartest.... Jules "Bad Motherfucker" Winfield was also one of the best.... ...but everyone knows that the greatest of all was Keyser Soze. |
TONY MONTANA of course!!!
i mean the guy's best friend gets chainsawed in front of him, and he spits on the guy and tells him to go f- himself!!!! |
"Say hello to my little friend!"
"I'm Tony Montana! You f*** with me, you f*** with the best!" |
"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled, was convincing the world he didn't exist." |
Nicky Santoro
"There's alot of holes in the desert, and there's alot of problems burried in those holes. But you gotta do it right see, you gotta have the hole already dug before you go out there with a package in the trunk or else you're talkin about a half hour of diggin and who knows who could come along in that time. Next thing you know you gotta dig a few more holes. You could be there all fuckin' night!" |
I was asking for gangsters..............not gangstas, and definately not punk-az beeotch crackheads. Although Ice-T was rather suave as King James. |
