How many extra mags to you usually carry with you?
And what was the most you have ever carried at any given time? Now carrying while on the job does not count. I.E. LEOS on the job or service personnel out in the field. I’m talk you’re every day person carrying a pistol. Me. I carry 2 spare 15 round mags with my Beretta 9000 with a total of 41 rounds and 2 13 round (w/+2 extensions) spare mags with my Glock 21 with a total of 41 rounds. These extra mags I keep in my pants pocket. Once to see how cumbersome it would be I carried, with the aid of my man bag, a total of 6 - 15 round mags with my Beretta and an extra box of 50 for a total of 151. It was heavy at first but I got used to it. I do not foresee getting in to a fight where I needed that much firepower at hand unless it was the end of the world type thing. Just curious to see what you got for your gat. ETA this ARFCOM link. Since I think they go together. |

I usually keep one spare mag handy.
In cooler weather where it's easier to conceal, I'll do 2 in a double mag pouch. |
Mostly (1) one in a Wilderness HIC (pouch)
or (2) in a Maxpedition Dbl Mag Pouch (12) rounder .45acp mags |
I once carried a 1911 in a shoulder holster with 4 extra mags. Normally I carry a pistol and one or two mags extra. Normall carry guns for me are my 1911 Combat Commander, PPK/S, or G23 with LEO mags!
One spare mag of 15 rounds for my Glock 22. Two mags..no real good way for me to carry that, and it seems like a bit of overkill to me. If I am in that much trouble off duty, I should have something more than a handgun in my hands.
One for hte .45.
None for the Full size Glock with 17 rpunds. One for the Glock 29. |
5 rounds in the S&W and if I'm lucky another 5 rounds in a speed loader!
Fobus Holsters website I either carry a Glock G22 With 2 spares, or a Kimber Pro CDP with 2 spares, each in Fobus Paddle holster. I find that the weight of the mags on the other hip helps make it feel more balanced. (Plus I have more ammo with me, which is a good thing.) |

2 spare mags in a shoulder rig. So I've got 37 rounds at the ready. Damn, hope I never need that many.
Do you keep your ammo in a holster? I've used to carry around a Streamlight Scorpion 2 Dl123 cell flashlight in my pocket, and it wore a hole in my blue jeans. Your mag plus ammo are alot heavier than my flashlight. |
Except that I carry my gun in a fanny pack, in an attempt to conceal that I have a gun. That mag carrier screams gun if its visible. |
One spare mag reguardless of capacity. By the way, it's stupid to carry spare magazines in your back pocket because if someone sticks you up, that's the first place they check. If they find a mag in your pocket, they know you're armed. Hopefully you already have your gun drawn at this point, but realistically you don't often have that much time to react.
If they get the chance to check the pocket the would have found the pistole on the hip or prying it from my cold dead hands. |
Good idea with the homemade holster for the mags, and cheap too. But aren't you concerned when you sit down, you may damage the magazines? |
This wasn't the case when I got stuck up a few years ago. They went through my pockets, but never patted down my waistband. I wasn't carrying that day, but if I was, they would be dead today. |
No spare mag if in town. If out of town I carry atleast 1 17 round for my G26
10+1 in the USPc .40 and another 10 round mag next to my flashlight. Waiting for my no-ban 12rounds mags to get here...
If I need more than 21 rounds, there is the AR in the trunk. |
Not really the "pocket" is padded a bit plus the padding of my ass. If the mag cant take being sat on then its a POS. |
Sort of ment as a bad joke. I should have expanded upon it. If they have the drop on you they have the drop on you. I've been held up before and had a knife on my hip in one of those leather pouches and the found that. I do my best to keep vigalent of my suroundings and watch where I go nad do. I try not to stay to far from the heard to be picked off but far enough to escape and not be trapped by the stampied if you get my drift. |

When i carry my 1911 i carry two mags, mostly to try to ballance my Bianchi shoulder rig.
When i carry my Sig 232, i usually carry one extra mag loose in a pocket. Ben, The_Emu |
If its a single stack gun, I carry two spares.
If its a double stack gun, I carry one spare. |
I carry 16 rounds in my G19 and have two 17 round mags for backup. All 50 rounds are Winchester Ranger +P+ 127 gr. . |
I carry 15+1 in my GLOCK 19 and a 17+2 mag in a Fobus paddle mag pouch. In the console of my car, I have a Fobus double mag pouch with 2 more 17+2 mags. The rifle with 2 spare mags is in the trunk.
One spare mag when carrying my 1911, none when carrying my Kel Tec (usually clipped to my jogging shorts). And no, I don't jog with the Kel Tec.
+1 If i'm some shit that 9 .45's wont get me out of, I'm in some DEEP shit! |
Never plan on having a double feed that compromises the mag in the gun? |
Yup, that Murphy fella will show up when he really isn't needed.............. Magazines are the weak link in most semi-auto weapons. It's good to have a spare in case the magazine in the gun decides to quit, just when it's needed most............. Not to mention, under stress it's possible that the impossible happens.............. like the magazine release gets hit, the mag falls out and tumbles someplace that ain't accesible............. |
One extra magazine for my carry weapon, and one extra magazine for my backup.
+1 Mags can be either improperly seated to begin with or the mag catch can be accidentally depressed at some time (maybe against a seat belt or such). I’ve seen several instances during qualifications of mags falling to the ground during the draw. In one instance in an indoor range, the shooter actually wound up throwing the mag forward – it slid along the concrete floor nearly to the target. |

My most common carry gun is a Keltec P32. I don't generally carry a spare. I do have a Glock 26 in the truck witha spare 15 rounder if I need to carry more.
One day I might get around to carrying the 1911, and I'll probably go for at least one spare mag when I do. |
Glock 23, 13 round mag with one in the chamber, one spare 15 round mag.
Typically 2 spares. 8 rounds each of .45 JHP |
One spare... total of 21 rounds is the norm. Sometimes I carry two spares, or leave two mags in the truck within reach (plus the one already on me).
No spare most of the time. If I'm out in BFE, especially were pot growers are a problem, I'll take an AR with 2 spare 30's.
Fall, Winter, Early Spring three 15 round spares total 61 rounds
9mm S&W 5904 |
Although I am of the carry as much as you can crowd...
For general carry, I'd go with one spare mag for the 1911. If I required more, I should have known what I was getting into. |
