Guns don't kill people, police officers' relatives kill people. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/134442000_dige24m.html (last item) Everett officer's son charged in shooting of his best friend EVERETT — The teenage son of an Everett police officer has been charged as an adult with second-degree manslaughter in the accidental shooting of his best friend. Michael W. Franckowiak, 17, of Marysville, was criminally negligent when he pointed a loaded 9-mm handgun at Chase Roodzant, 17, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Jim Townsend alleged in court documents. The two had been drinking beer and smoking marijuana at the apartment of a 26-year-old man in Marysville before the gun discharged last Wednesday evening, Townsend wrote. Roodzant died early the next day.

Looks like you got a the typical abbreviated Seattle version. Try this: Shooting suspect charged as adult Note that his parents were divorced and the father lives elsewhere. Also, "the defendant's father's job was not a consideration in determining how the case should be handled, nor did anybody involved in law enforcement seek any special treatment for the teen."
