Good article about all this. Gives a brief rundown of what we don't know about the raid, and some of the background behind what we don't know about the team that executed it.
From Ghazi Air Base in Pakistan, the modified MH-60 helicopters made their way to the garrison suburb of Abbottabad, about 30 miles from the center of Islamabad. Aboard were Navy SEALs, flown across the border from Afghanistan, along with tactical signals, intelligence collectors, and navigators using highly classified hyperspectral imagers.
After bursts of fire over 40 minutes, 22 people were killed or captured. One of the dead was Osama bin Laden, done in by a double tap –– boom, boom –– to the left side of his face. His body was aboard the choppers that made the trip back. One had experienced mechanical failure and was destroyed by U.S. forces http://nationaljournal.com/whitehouse/the-secret-team-that-killed-bin-laden-20110502 10.) Darn, they didn't use a ball peen hammer to OBL as I had hoped. It would have been a slower, more painful way to go.
|
|
But a small SEAL team raids in there, 22 dead or captured, not one American so much as stubbed his toe.
Them's my boys. |
|
Hometown boys got Bin Laden.
Hampton Roads has another reason to be proud. |
|
I thought according to the speech last night from Obama that he was flying one of the helicopters...what a dude he is...

It will be interesting to see the full details if they ever get released.

Double tap to the left side of his face at close range?
There might not be much left of his head to display for the world. |

Not so much names, but as stated, if they were flying from Afghanistan, how did they get into Pakistan undetected. After 40min firefight, there were no Pakistani Military/Police/ISI on scene? They had 4 helicopters. 1 was destroyed. How many did they possibly capture if you got to get your team out plus Bin Laden body along with evidence. |

I'd buy those guys the whole bar if they wanted it. To prove it I'd need a picture of them posing w/ his lifeless body like a 20 point buck. Too bad we'll never know who it was.

I'm hoping the guy who pulled the trigger was wearing a helmet cam
|

The report that we lost one of our birds jives exactly with a local Paki blogger who blogged the attack, except he's saying locals were told that the chopper was shot down. (Of course the bad guys would say that, though).

22 and zero? Damn, that's a hell of a kill death ratio. I wonder if they called in attack dogs.
Seriously though. 40 minutes, 22 dead, one crashed helicopter...0 casualties. Them some bad ass mofo's. |

Quoted: Why do we always have so many helicopter issues on these raids??? Cause helicopters are always trying to self destruct....it's integral to their design. Reports are that they had to cross the Hindu Kush on their way into Pakistan.....that means they had to be using MH-47s. I'm gonna guess there were 4 birds carrying about 100 troops that pulled the raid....but what do I know? God bless our troops!! |

got an old friend who used to teach in coranado, navy base. ill have to give him a call. he prob knows some of these guys it is a small community.

Great .. thanks for that. Now I'm gonna be having bad dreams involving that jug-eared fuck-stain. He cured my cancer, and unclogged my drains though. |
