Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement.
Can I stress it again.. SHOT PLACEMENT. THen again..the boar wasn't high on meth or pcp and had the "IDGAF" mentality. |

What range, not that I'm doubting the 5.56. Just curious. 75 yards. I have killed 4 now with this setup and all DRT. |
|
If you would have used a .45, that animal would have been blown into bacon.
Congrats and good shot. |

220? Looks more like150 but nice eating! Our make shift scales estimated him at around 200-175, I edited the OP. |

My buddy just bought a Ruger Hawkeye Predator for his daughter chambered in .223 for black bear. I was gonna give him a handfull of SS109 to shoot in it... He's backing her up with a Remington 700 chambered in .416 Rem!

Shot placement is always very important, but .30 cal is a little more forgiving in that department.

No one that's told me .223 won't do the job ever volunteered to stand downrange for some testing.

Speaking of M193, isn't the lack of "stopping power", or whatever the kewl kids call it this week, essentially a modern complaint about the M16/M4/AR platform?
Always seemed like those little non-penetrator 55gr pills did the job with aplomb. |
|
Do it with a 5.7mm next.
ETA: Wouldn't the caliber snobs howl then.. |

Not trying to stir shit but theres no way thats a 200 pound pig. mabey 120-130

If you would have used a .45, that animal would have been blown into bacon. Congrats and good shot. That wasn't my experience with .45 and piggies. I went after wild boar in Northern California near Lake Sonoma a few years ago with a buddy. I took mine with a .308 Mauser, one shot to the heart. My buddy wanted to take his with a Colt 1911 in .45 and it was not a pretty sight. We were close in because the dogs had encircled his boar. He had to empty the magazine and the boar still suffered to death slowly. It was not sporting. |

My favorite wild pig recipe follows:
Season pig liberally with salt and pepper Wrap in old t-shirts, and coat with vegetable oil Smoke at about 225 degrees for 5-6 hours Unwrap, throw away wild pig and eat t-shirt |

A 300 pouind hog is easily killed with a .22 short. Millions have been slaughtered this way.

You must have used some of that Cheaper Than Dirt ....DRT ammo!
I hear that's some good stuff!! |

Good going EastTXhunter. Have you ever used other loads like Winchester 64gr PP or Speer 70gr pills besides the XM193? |

Good going EastTXhunter. Have you ever used other loads like Winchester 64gr PP or Speer 70gr pills besides the XM193? I have used the win 64 pp and they do work well. One load I have used that worked, but not well enough was Federal 50 grain HP's. It killed the hog fine, but it ran a little bit. Many say you have to shoot them in the head or ear, but I have not found that to be the case. A behind the neck or shoulder shot has worked for me, the FMJ and soft points seem to give me enough penetration. The hollow points did not. |

Well this 150 to 200 pound boar thinks otherwise. One XM193 through the center of his shoulder, and lights our TKO. Crappy iphone pics , no flash on these phones. http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk312/richmorgan67/Hog.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk312/richmorgan67/newesthog.jpg Nice. What'd you pistol whip him with the buttstock? DId you photoshop out the baseball bat you finished him off with? |

Took me 3 rounds of 243 Bolt Remmy
1st shot was at a bad angle but had been told to take what you get to get rid of Hogs Dropped It got up and was walking back into woods when I say it and hit it again 2nd dropped it Walked up to it after adding 3 rounds to Mag Was hunting so only had 3 in Rifle never needed more than 1 for a deer Pulled the Africa throw a rock on it, did not see blood coming out mouth or nose. It Flinched and launched WHOLE body into the air. Stitches hurt. Ammo is was cheap. BOOM one in the chest at 20 feet. Cousins the Surgeon and he would have been laughing his ASS off with each stitch he but in me for the insult to injury clause avoidance. Bad shot placement with incorrect type of bullet for target animal |

During the Great Depression, many deer were killed with 22LR. I would guess a very high percentage.
