Looks like DEI will be joining forces with Ganassi for 2009.
http://www.jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news1 OFFICIAL - Earnhardt and Ganassi Form New Four-Car Team: Two of motorsports’ biggest names – Earnhardt and Ganassi – will launch a four-car team beginning in 2009 through the combination of the motorsports operations of Dale Earnhardt, Inc. (DEI) and Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, Inc. (CGRFS). NASCAR stars Martin Truex Jr. and Juan Pablo Montoya will drive the #1 and #42 respectively and future star Aric Almirola will be behind the wheel of the #8. The driver of the #41 will be named in the near future. “In this ultra-competitive era of NASCAR, it is necessary to build and sustain the strongest team possible and our combining with the people and equipment at Dale Earnhardt Inc. will help create a strong four-car program for years to come,” said Chip Ganassi. “This is a win-win for both organizations as well as all of our partners.” “Having a partner like Chip who is heavily involved on the competition side of the business is an ideal situation for DEI,” Teresa Earnhardt said. “He has a long history of managing championship teams in the IndyCar and Rolex Grand-Am Series and I share his passion and goals of winning races and ultimately championships in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. I think this is a case where we are stronger together than we are apart.” Details of the new four-car operation will be announced at a future date. 110 people were laid off at DEI Wednesday.(11-12-2008) That makes it around 2000 layoffs so far in and around the N.C. scene, it is very widespread. Those grandiose shops aren't looking so cool now... |

Half of something beats all of nothing.
49% probably don't look so bad now. The #8 doesn't even have a sponsor next year, and the #1 is about to not have one either. What ye sow ye shall also wreap. |

NASCAR sold out their roots to expand their audience and it is catching up. They've neutered the drivers and the cars so every team is equal. Too many rules.

I sort of became a casual nascar fan about three years ago. I did not like Toyota being allowed in, but when NASCAR started griping about the number of Toyota wins and wanted to change the engine rules becuase of Toyotas success, I just quit watching |

One of our local NASCAR team sponsors is cutting back on the number of races they will run next year.
I think NASCAR will take a severe hit in sponsorships and attendance next year. Golf will also have a rough year. |

So DEI is forming a 4 car team with Ganassi and letting go of a 110 personnel? What the point?
As for Junior's year long whine fest about not being given a 51% controlling share of DEI, he need to grow up and concentrate on driving. DEI was left to Dale Sr.'s WIFE, mother of Dale Sr.'s OTHER CHILD, she has run the company as she sees fit. If it fails so be it, it was hers to break. If his father wanted him to be in control of DEI he should have written his will differently or made diffferent arrangments before he died. |

Agreed. But, it was pretty clear from the way he talked about the team that he was building it for Dale Jr. I guess he just trusted that if anything were to happen, his wife would make sure his wishes were carried out. Bad move apparently |

NASCAR has imploded upon itself just as was predicted. They got too greedy and ate itself from within. Sound familiar in light of the current economic fiasco? |

Is the IRL side of Ganassi staying separate (management) from the merger?
|
|
Who cares, NASCAR is just like any other pro sports entity, money, money, money.
If you want to see some racing, hit your local dirt track, or dragstrip. |

Is the IRL side of Ganassi staying separate (management) from the merger? Yep, all the IRL stuff is handled at the Indy shop... (In Indy) and is completely unrelated to the Nascar operation at the Concord,NC facility. |
|
It's amazing they have 100 people to lay off and still people to run the place. They must make boo coo bucks from those sponsors. Winning races doesn't pay you that kind of money.

I'm sorry to say, as a lifelong motorsports enthusiast and veteran kartracer this saddens me deeply. I hate to say it, but the entire auto racing and auto industry is taking a major dump. Every major sanctioning body is cutting back on its races for 2009, and my level that I can afford to compete in which is karting is taking the biggest hit. I will be surprised if i get to go racing at a national with over 100 entries for my class next season.
FUCK OBAMA!!! I guarantee this asshat will only make things worse for both guns and racing....among other things. |
|
I was praying that when Jr. left DEI it went belly up and then he bought it back for pennies on the dollar. Oh well.
