Pronounced: Fusil = Fu-ZEE Autimatique = AutomatEE-kue (not exact - but best I can come up with...) Leger = Le-j-e (le as in leather) |

The dofference is that FAL makes an easy to pronounce word. I say FAL, one word. I understand others don't, but because that's they way I pronounce it in my head while reading, I hate it when people right write "I just shot an FAL". It makes my head hurt. |

Correct. I've seen it pronounced on The American Rifleman TV show, and they spelled it out. Also, it's Steyr "A-U-G" (ay yoo gee), not "og".

You could fill a book with military acronyms that are made to be pronounced like words. Using examples like USP and AR-15, which obviously aren't meant to be said like words, is a pretty weak argument.

I was told that while the rifle is Belgium, the words are French for "I surrender".

not sure on the absolute correct pronunciation,but according to the lady i spoke to in herstal it means light automatic rifle, she pronouced it more like ( fuzil automatekke leggger)

I have read the Belgians pronounce like "fall". They invented it so they should know what you should call it.
