Okay, My dad bought an AR-15 and showed it to me. It was cool but im confused. I looked at the users manual and it said "for all AR-10B and M-15 Rifles" I dont know if our rifle is and AR or an M-15 ( I know its not an ar-10b.) Also what makes a rifle an ar-15 not an m-16.

What is an M-15

IM CONFUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S- the wahtever it is is soooooooooo fun to shoot!

M15 is another name for AR15.

AR15 is just a generic term people use for different brands of AR type rifles. For instance my Bushmaster M4gery is an XM15E2S.

AR-15 is a trademark of Colt, and is used as a general designation for these type of rifles. Other companies cannot use the 'AR-15' moniker for two reasons;
1) Trademark Infringement
2) Some states have AWBs that specifity rifles marked 'AR-15' cannot be sold - yet identical rifles marked 'Match Sporter' can be sold by the truck load... (strange but true).

M-15 is what Armalite calls their 5.56 version, Bushmaster uses XM-15, other companies have their own designations.

Im in such a state. And I have a XM-15. Oh how I love technicalities.

When someone sends you to get a Crescent Wrench, or asks for a Kleenex, that does not mean you will be providing them an actual Crescent Brand Wrench or a Kleenex brand tissue.

AR15 is just the most commonly used term for this type of rifle.
