i'm going to start this where we can poke fun at our gun dealers for feeding the average person crap, and charging crazy prices for run of the mill rifles. here is my contribution.
went to pick up some 22 subsonic for a very special raccoon and i see a Bushmaster modular carbine with a YHM rail (i think this is factory) skele stock (factory) buis (factory) flip up front (factory) tango down VFG with surefire and pressure switch. for $2495.00. i asked the guy why so much and he told me thats what they get for a tactical carbine. i was like "oh o.k." and left. so i guess i can sell my stag/vltor/KAC RAS/KAC VFG/6721 upper/matech/MAID/aimpoint w/arms for around $3500 by their prices. share your stories/finds... |

Where in Indiana was this? |
The gun store by me sells Glocks for almost $600.00 I know there is more outrageous prices there so I will go scout them out today.
Just around here huh.....not hard
Lets see... 75 dollar butler creek 10/22 mags: Missouri River Outfitters (preban you know ) 650 dollar Glock 21: Scheels 26 Dollar Glock Mags 1300 Bushy M4, stock, nothing special at all: Big Bear 30 dollar AR mags Or probably the one that takes the cake: "Dont buy anything but a colt when it comes to Ar15's. They are the only ones that use Metal fire control parts in their lowers." Quoted from xxxxxxx at Scheels Sports in Great Falls MT Makes me sick sometimes |
about 2000euro for a 20'' AR and about 2500euro for a 16'' AR here in Italy
Nothing better than a so called "expert" feeding customers false information. |
I saw a very used Glock 17 at a shop in Texas once for 550.00 Looked like there was no tenifere left on the slide at all.
i'll say northern indiana. i don't want to piss off any one by naming names |
In France: 600 € = 720 $ for my glock 19 ; 1800 € = 2200 $ for my SDI AR 11'5 I think that we, Europeans, have just killed this thread! |
1100$ dollars for a used bushy M4 at a pawn shop. Insulting to me cause its the exact same rifle I sell at my local Academy for about 850$ brand new.
This is an interesting thread.
Are prices like this ridiculous because the dealer is so misinformed that they actually think they are giving someone a good deal? Or is it GREED? |
yeah it's too easy to become the winners btw, same here: 600euro for my glock17 the sad thing is that there is no difference in price between AR brands here in Italy. |
i had a guy here in nj quote me $1100 for an HK USP 45 because i wanted the "decocker" option...
thats funny and here i thought the decocker option (var1 ) was the standard. lol i guess they think we are all cattle. |
Got my Bushmaster A3 20" for 1400 € (1701$ including VAT @ todays rate)
Glock 17 Pro 590 € (712$ including VAT @ 2 years ago) Guns aint cheap here in Finland =) |
up here in canada we pay 50$ for ar mags and the local shop sells HK 36K for 7000$ each
Army surplus store in Newport KY sells new bushmaster 30rd mags for $40 and used (beat up looking for sure) 30rd mags for $30.
Oh and MRE meal packets, just the meal pouch now, for $8 |
Any one know the exchange rate between US and Canadian dollars?
I found a Canadian site that wants $780 for a Surefire M900A weapons light. At first I thought "what a rip off" but maybe in Canadian dollars it is a good deal. |
S&W MP15T for 1700.00 here in MD. Nice gun, but I thought just a little steep.
Here is a question to ponder:
www.dsarms.com sells their Gas Trap Carbine for $1700 I went to www.pof-usa.com and bought the upper for $975 and bought a Lewis Machine & Tool lower with the SOPMOD stock for $510. That makes the total investment $1485 for a savings of $215. I am not bad mouthing DS Arms. They have a lot of good rifles at very good prices. The Gas Trap Carbine just isn't one of them. By the way, I LOVE my Gas Trap Carbine. It is such a joy to spend a couple hours shooting and find everything except the bolt face, bore and the gas piston sparkling clean. Sure saves time cleaning. |
I think that would qualify as a 'deal' around here. |
Before I knew any better, I coughed up $690 for a Glock 23, my friend $1300 for a stock 16" bushy, and the same store had Fal's for $2600. I'm much more edjimucated these days
Thats pretty bad Just came back from scheels again today Glock 21C 675.00! I'm not kidding, thats the worst I've ever seen. Scheels All Sports Great Falls MT |

There's a store local to me asking:
$2,000 for a Colt 20" A2. While I admit it's a premium rifle as the lower is early enough not to be ruined by the Pony people, why would anyone pay that much when similar configurations of other brands can be had new for $850+/-? He also has another Colt 20" w/ A1 sights, FA w/ no shell deflector for $1,800. I've avoided Colt due to their odd configuration of FCGs, large hole vs. small hole etc. so I can't tell what the hell is so special about this particular rifle... Yet, I'm fairly certain that those Colt aficionados wouldn't pay that much either as these are not NIB "collector" grade. But it gets worse.... He's got a build that consists of an SGW stopsign lower, a 11.5+5.5" CAR15 upper w/ a Smith Enterprises carrier & Colt Bolt w/ a crappy plastic C-stock for the LOOoooow price of $1400. Now how much you suppose a fella can either purchase a similar factory configured rifle for- let alone piece one together? I'm guessing $700-900. I tried to get the upper off him but he told me, "THAT's PREBAN! Bushmaster doesn't build that style anymore." And a few Post 04' Oly lowers decked out w/ SP1 uppers for ~$900. Which proves he knows that folks can be slapping together whatever their hearts desire. It's just sad as w/ his traffic- he could be selling new post 04' weapons by the dozen. The worst part is, they must only be of such high value to him & his shop- cause that's we're they've been sitting since before the ban expired. Sly ETA: Several places in town offer all the 30rd magazines a fella could want. These range from "like new" to "like this damn thing was dug up after sitting in the mud of a rice patty for 20 years" Take your pick. $30 each (+/-) |
Saw a used Vulcan arms AR 20" for $895 at a gun show here in San Antonio. Why I didn't snap it up Iam not sure.
the scheels here gets 600 for any glock, and they won't deal with ar's at all....because they are an assault rifle. Another local gun store here seems to think sierra 69 gr matchkings are worth 25.99 a box of 100.. This same store wanted to charge me 25% transfer fee for a Mcmillan 50bmg action, needless to say I went to another ffl for that one. |
American Eagle 55gr FMJ box of $20 for more than $5.
Preban (USED) Colt SP1s for $1299. Actually, anything labeled as preban, in a noban state. I understand that someone may have sold the shop a SP1 during the ban for $1299, but damn, the space that those rifles are taking up on the rack is robbing space from anything current that would sell. At some point, the shopowner has got to realize that stock that doesn't move=no sale. More sales increases the chances of profit. |
The People's Republic of MD is notorious for outrageous gun prices, especially with all our insane gun laws. One local dealer has a POST BAN Colt Ar that looks like it was assaulted by a Tapco employee for $2500. That does include the high speed laser (pointer) tactical sight. Also, the same dealer has an HK 91 for the bargain basement price of $4500. I have seen that particular rifle on the gunshow circuit for at least 5 years.
Most any gun shop in St. Louis. Espcially if they have something that you and your neighbor want, then the price goes up 10% because of supply and demand. Seems that when I check with their suppliers, it's good to have quick easy, they always have plenty of what I'm inquiring about on hand, and ask how many I need.
the closest gun store near me sells WASR-10s for $499... saw a Walther P22 there for $525 once.. I think they purposely mark everything up, so that when you ask them about it, they can say "For YOU.... I'll let it go for $500"..... idiots
cetme built on a hesse reciever for a mere $900.00. Gunshow last weekend.
$22 or $2395.00 for a new 6920 at the Lansing gunshow 2 shows ago. Guy had a "few" Colts and had every one [I hope] when he left.
I think one of my local gun stores buys their firearms from other firearm dealers (like J&G Sales) at bulk discounts. However these bulk "discounts" are still only 10-20% off thr normal selling price. Then the gun dealer marks it up their typical 30%, and voila, you have an extremely overpriced gun. In todays world of knowledge and information, they arent getting away with it anymore. |
I USED to frequent a gunstore that wanted $40 a box for 10mm Black Talons.
This same guy offered me $200 for my barely used Bushmaster on a trade. |
Gun store where I work is not cheap, we're not outrageous, but prices are a lot more than what I see a lot of people expecting to pay here. However, we're not scamming people, and man, some people are out to scam. One of the guys who is a regular at most of the shops in town came in with a Model 1 Sales AR pistol upper he had just bought at the local gun show. He was very proud that he got it for the great price of just $600. I asked him if he was serious about paying $600, and he said he was. He asked if that was too much? All I did was show him the ad in Shot Gun News where he could have ordered the same exact upper himself and had it delivered right to his door for about $320.

Local store that alot of people frequent and sing high praises is currently "selling":
$399. WASR-10 with a worse than normal beat up stock-not made to accept hi-cap mags with one 10 rd mag, no sling or other accessories. $299. Enfield Jungle Carbine that is maybe Rack Grade and covered in cosmo $299. Yugo SKS good condition covered in Cosmo $325. Remington 870 Wingmaster, 1980's production used, police trade-in, stock beat to hell and wear all over the slide bars and on top of the receiver SOCOM-16 NIB, for $2,700 with on 10rd mag I wish I were making these up... They sometimes have a good deal on used shotguns, but probably only because someone made a mistake in marking the price tag |
Anything at any "Suncoast Gun Show" in central florida........the same overpriced crap has been on those tables for 5 years.
A big dealer from Orlando always has the same 1800.00 SP1's and 1600.00 (Sterling) 180's. And there is this cat who has an L2A1 FAL built on an Armscorp receiver for "only" 4400.00. He insists that it is a Belgian original!!! I do almost all of my shopping online anymore........maybe someday these people will come to their senses!!!! |

Hmmm Gunshows...
I've walked away so disgusted so many times that I have vowed to never attend another. This pains me because I want to support them like I do in every facet of the gun biz. But I've been searching for the answer to WHY, WHY are so many gunshow and gunshop dealers : #1 Way Overpriced #2 Think I'm a fuckin fool #3 Don't like to deal, sometimes even with an bad attitude They all need to quit their second jobs and stop fuckin 'dabbling' or 'hobbying' in the gun business. Maybe that way they get off their asses, get motivated and hungry enough to do what it takes to make a goddam sale and a customer happy - isn't that WHY we go to them and bring OUR cash?? Move over a leave space for those that do want to deal - which are few in my experience. Makes me wonder how so many ("dealer") people bring all their shit, unpack and lay out their wares just to sit and loiter at a gunshow and could care less if they don't sell $2 worth the whole weekend. Seems that is the point for them - just sit and pretend that they're in business? Hell if I know.... I do realize they (some?)have overhead to cover but so does the patron just to get there. I have to pay parking and cover charge and when I leave feeling sorry for wasting my time, well you know. I'm sure I'm not the only one WHINING about this. Enough whining from me. |
you got that right. i drove almost 2hrs to fort waye for a gun show. it was suppeosed to be huge. i paid like 7 for parking and like10 to get in for what. over priced crap. good thing there was a Hooters next door or i would have been really pissed. |
How about $2649 for a colt M4 and $1899 for a bushy here in CA? And the magwells are sealed on top of that...
At the range I shoot at, theres an upper with a tag of $699, the price always shocks me so I dont bother asking who the maker is. Its a regular A2 16" and its been there forever... On the other end of the outrageous scale(the good end), I bought an M16A1 for $300. No not in CA, overseas where it still waits for me. Passed up offers on the following: MP5 for $1500, colt XM177 for $800. Ran outta money and they dont take credit cards... |
LOL brother....Hooters??? This line has got to be made a classic!! Best I got after the "gun"show was a seedy taco shop with obese latinas |
Your nutty gun store people are a bunch of amatuers. There is this place around here -
Shortly after the ban ended they had a whole bunch of old uppers with evil features out for sale, for about the price of a new upper. They were all "refinished" with a can of black satin krylon. No shit, the whole upper just rattle-canned. About a year after the ban - MGW 90 round AR drum: $495 Beat to hell thumbhole Maadi + sidemount commie scope, with little tag that says "REAL MILITARY ISSUE" with a grainy picture of some Soviet with a Dragunov. : $800 Assorted beat up Romanian AK clones: $500 to $600. Well used COLT! PREBAN! carbines with random (cheap) crap bolted on; $2500 Crappy frankengun parts AR's, USED, that cost more than a new Bushy. Several CETME's with PSG-1 furniture and optics, labeled "RARE HK PSG-1", for ridiculous prices I can't even recall. Used Glocks for $600 to $800. And so on..... general rule of thumb, take a reasonable price and double it. Plus they're rude, cranky, and dishonest. The only reason they stay in business was that until recently they were the only game in town, and also the only place the gang bangers can go buy their .25 ACP's and 9mm Hi-Points. |
Local dealer sells his Glocks for about $550. Then he gets a Glock 24... $950. I went back in a month or two later and it had dropped to $650 which is about right.
Magoo |
The worst I have seen is a local guy who sells guns wanted $599 for a P1. Another case of ass raping is sitting at a local gun shop. It is a TEC-9 and they only want a measly $689 for it. It even comes with an evil barrel extension and drive-by 30 clip.h.gif
Well at least you can buy them. I have a tendency to lump all european countries together and assume they are all like England with their tight gun controls. |
Saw a well used "pre-ban" Colt 9mm two weeks ago in a local gun shop for $1725. Same store has Remington 525rds bulk packs of 22lr for $15.95.
Hey indianaman I am in indy and here the worst is DONS GUNS. 90% of everything in that place is literally double the price of the normal you would see at any other place around.the other 10% is things like ammo a 20 round box is 3.95 in wall mart and meijer. the EXACT same box in his store is $13. I asked them why it is so expensive without telling him the real price and he says"thats what it costs ammo is up these days" . so being the ass I am I said "meijer down the street has the same stuff you sell for 10 bucks less.I believe in the american way, makin' money but Damn!
AND THE WINNER IS THIS POSTER!! Now that IS a a croc O' shit,,,,a $689 TEC 9 |
How does $699 for a beat to shit Yugo Mauser sound? Head to the local pawn show to see it yourself..
