Where in Indiana was this?

i'll say northern indiana. i don't want to piss off any one by naming names

eewww eeewww, i gotta know...I'm northern indiana..IM me, and give me a hint, I could probably figure it out.

My story is from the last Indy 1500.  Not price related, just funny.  Buddy with me trying to sell his glock 27 to a dealer.

Dealer:  What you got there?
Buddy:  Glock 27 - he then opens the box to show him.
Dealer:  What caliber?
Buddy:  40 cal w/2 mags
Dealer:  Those high cap mags?
Buddy:  agh, its a baby glock, hold 9 rds, unless you add the extension.
Dealer:  Agh, don't think I'm interested...it doesn't have the rails.
Buddy:  I didn't think any of the baby glocks had rails...there's not enough room.
Dealer:  oh, i think the new ones are now coming with rails

ETA- What is sad, is they have the prices like that because there are going to be assclowns somewhere that don't know any better, and are uninformed and will pay that price.  I would like to keep my business local, but if I find a deal over the internet thats $200, $300, $500 cheaper, you bet your ass I'm ordering it up, and I'll just do a transfer.

I had a similar experience just today... Stopped by local sporting goods/firearm dealer, that is retiring and is offering everything on discount, to ask about a collapsable AR-15 stock..  He pulls out two stocks, one 6 position and one 4 position.. Sticker price on each was $99.95, but I would 20% off since he was going out of business.. I asked who the manufacturer was he replied "bushmaster" Hmm, a good deal for a $110 retail stock... Strangely the boxes didnt have BM printed on them anywhere and there were no instructions.. I got a parts number for the 6 position and headed home to see if I could confirm what good buy I thought I was going to get..  WELL, my 'good' deal turned out to be a GREAT deal, but only for him.. The stock was a Leaper and is selling for $59 on cheaper-than-dirt..

Im glad I did my research, I was willing to drop $80 for a BM..

Any one know the exchange rate between US and Canadian dollars?

I found a Canadian site that wants $780 for a Surefire M900A weapons light.

At first I thought "what a rip off" but maybe in Canadian dollars it is a good deal.

That would be $668.38 US

1 Canadian Dollar = $.86

1 US Dollar = $1.17 Canadian

The M900A sells for around $400-450 and $<$400 in some places, and $616 MSRP w/Surefire.

That is a Canadian gouge, IMO

Welcome aboard, Eldage!

Shit, that ain't nothing. A dealer by me has his Glocks marked for ~ $700! I'll be damned if I know how this guy stays in business as all of his prices are that bad. He does (or soon to be did) have the only indoor range in the area so maybe that keeps the lights on but I can't figure out how he sells any guns or accessories?

This is an interesting thread.

Are prices like this ridiculous because the dealer is so misinformed that they actually think they are giving someone a good deal?

Or is it GREED?

I think it's a combination of both, but also add in the "Wow! Factor". Alot of dealers price their inventory higher because in some cases, someone may walk in, see something that looks really "cool", and just have to have one right then and there. There is something to be said about impulse buying. These are the folks that see what they want, buy what they see, and don't take the time to research a cheaper source. As long as we have impulse buyers, I think we will continue seeing outrageous figures.

1600 for a "pre ban" colt sp1 in south texas in 2005.

Castle nut, receiver ext, flash hider, all had surface rust.

Grip was mangled with a dremel to remove the finger bump.

Receiver was beat to shit with white gouges in several places.

The uppers rear sight had some rust.

The dealer pushing that crap was an idiot.

I hope his last dying breath is spent trying to sell that peice of crap, and the second before his last heartbeat I hope the buyer gives him a big FU and walks over to another table with a nice RRA and plunks down the cash!

Hmmm Gunshows...
I've walked away so disgusted so many times that I have vowed to never attend another. This pains me because I want to support them like I do in every facet of the gun biz.
But I've been searching for the answer to WHY, WHY are so many gunshow and gunshop dealers :

#1 Way Overpriced
#2 Think I'm a fuckin fool
#3 Don't like to deal, sometimes even with an bad attitude

They all need to quit their second jobs and stop fuckin 'dabbling' or 'hobbying' in the gun business. Maybe that way they get off their asses, get motivated and hungry enough to do what it takes to make a goddam sale and a customer happy - isn't that WHY we go to them and bring OUR cash?? Move over a leave space for those that do want to deal - which are few in my experience.

Makes me wonder how so many ("dealer") people bring all their shit, unpack and lay out their wares just to sit and loiter at a gunshow and could care less if they don't sell $2 worth the whole weekend. Seems that is the point for them - just sit and pretend that they're in business? Hell if I know....

I do realize they (some?)have overhead to cover but so does the patron just to get there. I have to pay parking and cover charge and when I leave feeling sorry for wasting my time, well you know. I'm sure I'm not the only one WHINING about this. Enough whining from me.

+1

Can't tell you how many times I've sworn never to go to a gun show again. Waste of time and money. I only go to handle and touch anymore.

There's always the idiot selling an SKS with 30rnd mag for $450, or the dealer who puts $50 worth of TAPCO plastic on a $250 WASR and thinks he can sell it for $500+.

Does it drive you crazy when they talk to you as if you've never seen or held or touched a gun before in your entire life? Never heard of an AR15 or a Glock or a threaded barrel? That drives me nuts.

Hint to sellers: Don't assume every potential customer is as stupid as you are!

Interesting only in that  E.A. Co never made factory rifles.

One cool thing about Wade's indoor range.  On at least one Friday evening of the month, they would hold indoor black gun competitions.  Some in the dark with combat lights.  I never was able to try it, but it sure sounded like fun.

edit: They also had two sequentially serial numbered AR15 A3 pencil barreled Colts only being sold as the pair for BIG $$.  They did however have a National Security brand gun safe (used) being sold for a reasonable price.

some of your guys' outrageous prices is not that outragous.  depends on where you live.  i mean if an AK is going for $300 on GunBrokers and only 2 gun dealer is within 100 miles of you, and you paid $400 for you AK, I don't think that is outragous pricing.

if you're talking about the one by the police station, their prices have always been like that on guns, since i started buying guns 10 years ago.  Get into a conversation with them sometimes about guns, and you'll quickly determine that they have NO knowledge as well as gouging prices.
