I'm fast approaching 200 AR mags, but I have 10 rifles now....

Oh no, not again .

Minimum of 12 per rifle is one school of thought.  I say if you can count 'em, you don't have enough.

For some reason, I'm always a couple shy of enough.

20 NIW per AR15 plus 10 per AR to use at range

Ummmmm prolly about 30 AR mags...give or take a few. 99% 30's and a couple 20's too.

I keep 40-30 rnd mags plus a 10 20rnders loaded in either pouch carriers or bandoliers. I in the process of doing the same for my 6.8SPC (I have saved some of the latest Remington ammo + I reload 6.8SPC). This covers both my better half and myself. One can never have enough mags + ammo. You be the be the judge for yourself.

ETA: Except for the demise of the AWB, the agenda of the Dems has not changed. Just really listen to Kerry & edwards.

Only 17h1 used/demo mag from SAW with the red spring
3 Teflon-coated magazines from CMMG with chrome-silicon springs and MAGPUL followers. (2004 production mags)

The three from CMMG are my favorite without a doubt.

I only have eight 30 rounders and two 20 rounders.  Two pairs of 30s are "jungle clipped" together.  They all have Wolff +10% springs and MagPul anti-tilt followers.  I guess this is an example of "quality over quantity"  :)   However, I do plan on getting more down the line.

Oh, I also only have one AR.

I carried 18 all the time in VN.  They were 20 rounders, USMC didn't have 30's in those days.  Lots of fire fights and so many rounds you all are still paying for them.  Three rifles and not one mag failure.  My guess is 20 per rifle seems about correct.  Been using the same 5 20's since 92 about 25,000 or more rounds and no failures.  To each his own I guess!

This is most of them, I think.  I always seem to find one or two in a hidden corner somewhere.

This should be enough for two rifles, shouldn't it?

I buy 50 new magazines per rifle.  Bump it up to 65 for the flimsy USGI alloy M-16 mags.  I finally saw the light after a salesman at my local gun shop hammered this home to me and I read Boston's Gun Bible.  Don't waste your time on aftermarket or used magazines.   If you don't have a mag, you have a really tricked out single shot.  While your at it, buy three complete parts sets per rifle, and a couple extra small parts (firing pins, extractors, spring kits, ejectors, front sight posts, pins) on top of that wouldn't hurt.

All detachable mag semi-autos will be the first to go (with .50 BMGs not far behind).  Who is going to make parts for rifles that are banned?  What if part of the ban states that ownership of the existing rifles can not be transferred?  What if part of the ban states that replacement parts for assault rifles can not be sold to civilians?  What if part of the ban prohibits any gunsmith from taking a semi-auto detachable mag rifle in for repair?  What if I'm left standing there with 20 AR-15s with: blown gas seals; bent gas tubes; bent recoil spring guide tubes; a shot out barrel; a sheared firing pin tip; weak springs; air soluble detents, springs, and pins; a shattered buttstock (from crushing somebodies skull); cracked forends; bent barrel; sheared off front sight post; bolt to upper receiver galling because I can't go down to the gun store and get Break-free because there are no more gun stores; obstruction in the bore (mud, snow, human flesh) that results in a bulged barrel if I'm lucky, a blown-up rifle if I'm not; or . . . .well, until that day then.

I think 10-15 per rifle is a pretty good rule of thumb.  I have about 17 Mini 14 mags (all good ones too, PMIs, Rugers), 12 or so AK Mags (all 30s except for one 20), and I will have 16 AR Mags (3 20s and 13 30s) after next week when my 10 arrive.  I know there will be even more if, God forbid, John Kerry becomes president.

While I would rather not have a fire, ammo in magazines is no more dangerous than ammo still in it's original boxes. In either case, neither is partiocularly dangerous when burned. Ammo tends to go 'pop'; it doesn't start shooting rounds around the site of a fire (unless you are in a movie).

Kind of hard to beat that price for Colt magazines
